  • Answering the above same query ,every tom dick and harry with even half a brain knew that the YAMAHA RX135 5 speed was a performance king .Yet the tests done by magazines said that it's top-end was just 102 kmph.

When the track shootout was done and the same bike was ridden by racers on the track it was clocked at 119 kmph and it was estimated it would go on to hit 125 kmph to 130 kmph on a reasonable straight. It was the same with the fiero too.

The bajaj bikes which were being promoted heavily at that time couldn't even come near these kind of numbers.

My stock KB100 was rated at 95Kmph,while I had done 110 ..stock and 130 with mods..
It is not just the speed but how quickly it can be reached and also stopped from that speed, that makes for a true spirited bike.

      • hey guys, i just want to know for knowledge purposes, how does the button start actually work ??
does the battery rotate the magnet and pull the piston to TDC and ignite the spark, all on its own ??

of there's some other very not so technical method ??

Track tests done by racers/not magazine employees ,with real data spewed out in numbers,or ones done with a third party dynamometer are the ones to be believed.
Agreed, but CBZ had a very poor top end for sure, it used to run of breath after 90kmph

RX135 5 speed was a very good bike pumping out 14bhp & two stroke, it sure kick some ass & had a better top end than 102 kmph

If you mean the Self Start..when you press the button it switches on +12v of battery to a relay which in turn connects the battery directly through a Fuse to the Starter Motor's Rotor winding, which in the presence of a alternate Magnetic field, rotates and turns the crank shaft through a step down gear ratio to start the engine.

            • Thanks PSR.

but where is this starter motor located ??

does it pull the piston to TDC using a separate flywheel, or does it give current to the stock stator windings so that the magnet rotates ??

can you be a bit more elaborative ??

and yes, if possible can you send me a CAD design or a blue print of my bike's engine ??

                • So i've ridden around 250 odd kms with the new tires (Michelin Sirac Street on the rear and Michelin M35 on the front, both stock size, tube type) and the new tires have set in well.

I am able to corner hard and lean more with increased confidence. The grip levels even on hard braking is superb. The bike does not tramline anymore on cracks and uneven bits on the tarmac and is stable on gravel as well.

BIG thanks to Sarvajit for suggesting these tires.

No problem mate. I'm glad you are liking them! I was also told that they would take around 400kms.to set in, now that I've done more than 1K on them, its total bliss!
Btw, Nikhil was saying something went wrong with your Fiero's crank-is all well?

                    • nano-the starter motor works very much similar to that in case of 4 wheelers.

All well, thanks. I fried the valves and the camshaft . Got new ones 2 weeks back. Just have to get the timing adjusted since i replaced the timing chain as well (was not needed but i thought it'll do some good). Bike is butter smooth now. Have a list of things planned (nothing to bump the power and stuff, just getting the brand new look and feel back, she deserves it ) so lets see how it goes

What exactly happened? and what was wrong with the crank?

                            it really helped.
but tell me, does the "SS motor shaft" marked by you is connected directly to the starter motor which seems to be behind it, which seems to be easily visible from the naked eye lying beside the cylinder block ?

my bike too has that section and a cover too, but there's nothing inside the cover, its empty, i asked a mech what is it for years ago (when i knew nothing compared to today) maybe its a slot allocated to the starter motor (correct me if i am wrong)

now tell me 1 more thing, does my bike has that step down gear as well as the flywheel (big sprocket behind the magnet) too ?
shouldn't it be absent as the self starter doesn't exist ??

I think from what you have expressed that your bike does not have Starter Motor in which case, the associated parts may not be fitted. If you open the stator side of the engine you will get the answer for your query.
