I am talking about standard head porting, as my head is to be given for expansion.
    wasn't talking about the SAI,
besides i searched a lot yesterday across everywhere for the p135 switches.
    It wasn't available anywhere.
once i get a hang of it, it will be done.

Big upgrade will take a week roughly.
    bike's already stripped.
Lets see if it happens or not (successfully i mean).

My bike's head is ported as you know and this link has been around from some time on x-bhp .I myself brought it to psr's notice when we were discussing about flow rates. So my advise is ,there's some real truth to what he has said.

Porting is a art and a science and flow-rate are changed for better or worse.

So it all depends on the person and his knowledge about 4stroke engine etc.

Another thing is you would have to do lot of other things too along with porting to get good results.

They will take off lot of material around the valve guides and it can cause a ruined head if not done correctly.

If you want to be on the safer side, don't get it done.Because flow rates do matter and just widening the ports will not guaranty a good result. There are more risks than benefits.

ok a lil background on my fiero..... its a 2000 model n as said bfore it was bought for my dads use but since he got back problems he rode it for less than 1 yr, n it was in the storage. At that time i was young n my dad didnt give me the bike, n i used to stay in coimbatore for my mech engg.... i use to come to mumbai once in 6 months n used to ride the bike n hence so low kms on the odo. for the past 3 years i hav shifted to mumbai n i hav started using the bike on a daily basis..... the reason i hav gone for the new bike is
        1) i m huge (6ft 3") n the bike looks puny on me (though i like the power n the agility)
        2) the fiero seat is not havin any mercy on my butt on longer rides (25Kms n above).

        now to the problems....
        1) the milage has drop considerably after the last servicing from my asshole mech.... occasionally the bike would choke like it was not getting any airfuel mixture i told the mech about this n gawd knows what the f&^%k he did it was working properly but my avg dropped like crazy n i m getting pathetic milage till date.... i asked him many times what did he do but that C&^%# IS TELLING "arre bhai i hav taken care of it y r u worryin" ( i think he has messed up with the carb settings n made the A/F mixture very rich) thats the time when i decided i wont be taking my stead to him ever again...
        2) the bikes engine has been opened only once for the replacement of clutch around 2 yrs back apart from that i have never let anybody open my babys heart....
3)both the front suspension n the rear suspension r dead.... cause the bike behaves very skittishly while maneuvering n after riding my new GS150R even a noob can say the ride quality is worse of my fiero....
        4) Electrical s needs to be checked n done very thoroughly cause 11 yrs have taken a toll on the wiring...
        5) engine has to be completely overhauled n decarbonised and worn parts need to be replaced and new gaskets needs to be put everywhere....

these r the changes req if u guys think any other things r required please let me know n what will be the budget.... i will be keeping this bike only for occasional outing at the weekends mebbe ride the bike for 25 kms per week to keep it in condition.....

pls giv ur inputs guys n guide me in the right direction of fiero nirvana.......

        Buddy, what i feel is
Point 1. Like you said ,carb needs tuning.

        3. Easy enough ,get them re-done.

        4. If there's any symptoms then get it checked.

        5. Check the plug,i don't think there'd be anything wrong with your engine. In fact's it's approaching it's prime. If there's oil leaks then there's no harm in opening up the engine for packing and gasket change.Otherwise no need to open up the engine.

        • so head porting is canceled.
thanks PSR as well as gixxer.

just getting the head size increased.
any more pointers, stuff that i should consider to do ?

          my TO do list is
          Change the wiring
          Change the switches
match the head with the bore

anything else you guys recommend, apart from SAI ?

You saved yourself from a lot of pain.......when you try to match the head to the bore size do like in RTR which i had told you earlier...as a taper.

That should do for now.Once wiring and other electrical matters are taken care of and found to be correctly working, only then go for the TCI ,if you want to that is.

Your bike has seen a lot buddy,so take things one at a time ,so that it can be diagnosed properly,as you know small things keep cropping up,till things stabilize. If you had gone for porting then it would have complicated things further.Like in everything mechanical ,keeping things simple helps. For example,i am happy with the bike running on advanced map all the time, because i don't want the complications of a micro switch to change maps.I still have lot of things planned and for now i want to keep it stable for the other changes to be made.

              • I think you took me the other way bro.
I do not intend to do all the upgrades in one shot, all i meant is that my bike is already stripped, if there's anything else thats needed, which can be done now itself before opening it again, then please highlight.
that's the reason i am not converting to TCI, just straightaway.

besides, this is the LAST time i am working on my bike, apart from being bankrupt, i am tired working on it over and over again.

                    • I had a silly incident today ... I was in a hurry to rush to work and rode the bike to my gate. I got off and hurried to open the gate and as I was doing, I heard my bike fall to the ground. Rushed to pick it up and to my dismay, I found that the (housing / connecter or whatever it is called between the clutch lever and the handlebar with the rear view mirror socket) was broken...
I managed to engage first gear and ride slowly ... then gearless shift to 2nd and reached the mech. The mech had a hard time removing the handle tip knob as this was the first time ever after the purchase... it was stuck quite hard. Finally got it done. Oiled the clutch cable and now the gear feels good with great pickup.

I guess in my rush I did not engage the stand too well... and Bummer!!!

                        • Guys, My Suzuki fiero has done 90k kms and its a 2001 model.
My brother was using it for 2 years and spoiled it to the core.
I am trying to restore it slowly.Spent a lot of money by changing suspension, tyres, clutch assembly and many more which i don't know.
Recently i thought of selling the bike as it was consuming lots of oil and emitting white smoke.Mechanic told me that reboring will solve this issue and also bike will be smooth after that.
I thought of giving it a shot. Rebore was done.
Now there is some grinding noise while riding it.Bike is not at all smooth.
Gear shifts slots with a thud sound as the engine rev does not come down even after closing the throttle. It takes around 3secs to come back to idle.so gear shifts are not smooth.
I spent a lot of money but could not find any good mechanics here in chennai.
I want the bike to be butter smooth as before.
Mechanic says he will get rid of all those sounds only after 1000kms run-in.
I am riding the bike at around 50kmph till the 1000kms run-in.
                          Please help?

Yes you can. When i got it done in 2004 ,it cost me 7k.It's a pulsar one, that is the disc brake set is that of the classic pulsar.

The mech has told me that the RTR160 intake manifold is the same as that of the fiero,so it should fit.I don't know about the air box hose.

Yeah man, such s#!t happens,it happened to my bike 12 days ago and that too it fell on unpaved rocky decline when parked .The funny thing is ,the handle wasn't true before ,that is the left side was a bit further than the right. Which sarvajit and abhi might have noticed when they had ridden my bike . When the bike fell ,it became true! I had been putting off the hydraulic press work to straighten it from years , now because of the fall ,it was solved to an perfection!! Not only that, the area where the bike fell was bumpy with embedded rocks ,so it was a miracle there weren't any dents on the tank, which would have been a major issue to solve ,if it had.Other than the scratched grab rail,it was a good fall to happen.
Then,it proves that the RTR crash guard does well on our fieros too. The upside down bullet handle which comes so close to the tank sides when turned completely didn't cause a dent either !!

The rev not coming down in time could be a carb tuning thing . The engine harshness/grinding feel ,as a worst case scenario might be the result of a botched up re-bore job.Though engine harshness is a indication of a carb running lean and a pic of the plug will clear things up.

I will try to post the pic of my spark plug soon.
I will ask the mechanic to do the carb tuning again.

Is the grinding noise has anything to do with timing chain?
