I will try to post the pic of my spark plug soon.
I will ask the mechanic to do the carb tuning again.

Is the grinding noise has anything to do with timing chain?
It's difficult to say without hearing it,but since you are saying that it's a grinding kind of noise ,i am sure it's not from the cam chain.

Rushed to pick it up and to my dismay, I found that the (housing / connecter or whatever it is called between the clutch lever and the handlebar with the rear view mirror socket) was broken...
I managed to engage first gear and ride slowly ... then gearless shift to 2nd and reached the mech. The mech had a hard time removing the handle tip knob as this was the first time ever after the purchase... it was stuck quite hard. Finally got it done. Oiled the clutch cable and now the gear feels good with great pickup.

I guess in my rush I did not engage the stand too well... and Bummer!!!
Has happened with me too, infact was a bit more crazy.
i was in goa, with friends enjoying a vacation, we rented some splendors and were roaming around.
There's a fort near anjuna beach, don't remember the name though, now reaching that fort is literally a 1st gear full throttle climb on a splendor an a dusty and gravel road (more of a hillclimb) was a 500ft climb i suppose.
after reaching the place i got off the bike, and maybe i forget to put up the side stand, the bike rolled over all the way to the base of the hill.
had to change the clutch leaver as it was broken, and the rear view mirror too, looking at the rolling bike, i expected a lot more damage, was lucky that it wasn't.

I am trying to restore it slowly.Spent a lot of money by changing suspension, tyres, clutch assembly and many more which i don't know.
Recently i thought of selling the bike as it was consuming lots of oil and emitting white smoke.Mechanic told me that reboring will solve this issue and also bike will be smooth after that.
I thought of giving it a shot. Rebore was done.
Now there is some grinding noise while riding it.Bike is not at all smooth.
Gear shifts slots with a thud sound as the engine rev does not come down even after closing the throttle. It takes around 3secs to come back to idle.so gear shifts are not smooth.
I spent a lot of money but could not find any good mechanics here in chennai.
I want the bike to be butter smooth as before.
Mechanic says he will get rid of all those sounds only after 1000kms run-in.
I am riding the bike at around 50kmph till the 1000kms run-in.
      Please help?
I think its to do with the camshaft.
I remember i had that grinding noise from my engine, and after opening up everything realized that the camshaft was damaged and deformed, so were the tappets.
This happened due to a worn out piston.
Couldn't believe that i rode the bike all the way to the mech, Do check it to avoid further damage, as the mech said that my tappets could have been saved if i had brought the bike earlier.
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

      • guys my F2 is giving a very bad milege during my 56km daily running(60%highway + 40% city). its averaging 43-45kmpl!!! its too less, considering the fuel prices! i was expecting around 50kmpl...

i would be visiting my ASS for a tune up. any additional suggestions?

PS- My avg riding speed is 60 kmph..

and guys i have a very strange prob with the fuel meter... for more than 2yrs i have been experiencing a very inaccurate reading from the fuel meter. the moment the bike comes to reserve and when i take a look at the meter, the needle is a little above the red marking. Actually in practice it should just be between the red and the orange indicator. but in my case its always above the red indicator... Which means when i get into reserve i have to ride for about 10-12kms for the needle to just come down upto the red mark(which is the actual reserve indication).

        plz help me guys...

Take it easy buddy, that is the mileage my bike has given me right from the beginning.
And as for the fuel meter, it is always inaccurate. I even got my fuel float changed once but hardly any difference.
In my case, it comes to reserve correctly, but hits E after less than 1 litre is used up.
          Rely more on the odo.

but i used to get an avg definitely more than 45kmpl. but, since a month or so i have been getting a lower avg...

and my odometer is not working... it got stuck up in 60k and didnt turn ever since!

Since i don't have any good mechanics who can analyse the exact problem.I have to just grin my teeth and ride the bike with all sorts of sound.
I am waiting to complete 1000kms so that i can give it to the mechanic for tuning as he is very adamant that he will touch the bike only after 1000kms or 2000kms run in.
Seems to be a long wait as i don't feel like riding it with all sorts of noise.Bike feels like a mixer grinder.

If the sound is like a mixie grinder then either the main bearings or cam bearings to be checked.

Other than re-bore were there any other works done/(parts replaced) on the engine head or the crank?

Thanks mate. Can you recommend any good fiero mechanics in Chennai?

No just reboring done and regular service. Oil changed to Elf moto gold.
Any expert fiero mechanics you know in chennai or any other option to skip that 1000kms run in period?

If nothing else was done ,then 500 kms is the run-in period. So after completing that ask your mech to find out what's the reason for lack of engine refinement, because fiero is one hell of a silent engine. It's the first bike to come with silent cam chain in india. So there's no reason for it to sound and feel like a mixie grinder if everything's fine.In fact it's more refined than most of the bikes in market today. So suddenly if a fiero starts to sound and feel like a pulsar ,then it needs careful attention.

Yes fiero is very refined and butter smooth.I was using it regularly till 2007 and then went to bangalore and bought pulsar 200. This is my best bike so far.Only other bike i liked apart from fiero is unicorn.
Fiero was used by my brother and he spoiled it to the core by driving it tashly.
I had to spend a lot of money to repair it.since i do not have any expertise,i will let the mechanic to change whatever he tells me to do it.
I spent nearly 10-15k in the last 2 years. This includes new tyres, shock absorbers, etc and also changed around 4 mechanics.
It seems to be doing well for some days and again some issue might crop up.
Finally gave it for reboring to sort out the white smoke issue.
I am not sure what else to be done to restore it back.
I am not very much concerned about pick up but i want smoothness to roam around within the city.
Sometimes even thinking about selling it and buying a new bike, but some what sentimental as it is my 1st bike.

Yeah ,sentiments apart, even after 10 years ,there's hardly any improvement in terms of performance or refinement in any of the other bikes in it's category. So selling it and once again going for a air cooled bike makes no economic sense either .That too at what cost?75 grand? Keep the bike,it's nothing that can't be sorted out with .

Unicorn has a gem of an engine/GB,worthy of the HONDA badge.Regarding your present predicament ,don't go around changing parts without asking the mech for the reason.Finish the run-in period of 500 kms and then change the oil/filter .If it still makes no difference, then you might have to change your mech.
