  • My first puncture on the new michelin's.

I was shocked seeing the size of the metal piece. It pierced the tire and entered the tube. When the tube was removed, I was searching for a nail in the tire but the damn metal thingy was inside the tube.

Two gaping holes in the new tube

On the bright side, an opportunity for me to post a pic of my bike. Shot thru my cell camera.

      Hello Friends,

After I got my ZMA, the running on my Fiero was reduced but not stopped
I use to ride it everyday in the night & it was fun.

One fine day an uncle came from neighboring building and asked me if I wanted to sell my Fiero. He liked it very much & knew I use to service it myself & maintain it in top condition. First I was reluctant on selling it, but my family was against me taking care of 2 bikes so I gave him the test ride & he was very happy and we struck a deal at that same moment.

Just yesterday, all the paper work was done & I handed over the keys with a heavy heart . But I told him, you get stuck with anything, let me know & I`ll help you out and the day you wish to sell it, do let me know as I will be the first person to buy it back . I so very much LOVE my bike.

I know its sad, but I will be able to see my bike & hear it roar everyday.

This does not mean, I will be absent from this thread, I will be very much present here and enjoy the discussions.

      LOVE YOU FIERO

        Imjoshee,

Good to hear from you. It's sad for us too ... to know that you sold your beloved Fiero and be settled with a ZMR. But I guess progress in life is a good thing. Keep visiting the thread.

Jeez, I hate punctures that's why I always prefer hard compound button tyres which can withstand punctures little better than soft compounds

Your bike looks amazing for 2001 model

Breakdown's are what i hate the most. Luckily so far it is limited to punctures only.

I was contemplating on switching to alloy wheels and tubeless tires but since the bike is strictly used for office commute, the cost factor did not justify the switch.

Thanks. A simple wash does the trick. Never used any polish or shampoo. On the contrary will use some of the ArmorAll wash n wax shampoo and turtle wax on the weekend. She deserves some pampering. Must be feeling let down after I got the ninja.

My mechanic was hounding me to sell the bike to him but i said no. Hard to find such bullet proof machines today.

I've still got some work lined up for her. The fuel tank is rusted and the crash guard has the chrome peeling off. When that's taken care of, she'll be as good as new.

I was thinking of getting a front disc brake setup on the bike. My mech says the Fiero F2 unit is a bolt on fit (the front wheel hub has to be changed). How much would it cost? (approx fig will do)

I got my bike fitted with disc brakes in 2004 and at that time i had to buy the parts individually from bajaj. So the cost was 6.5k ,but you can opt for any of the current lot.

              HONDA UNICORN first gen.

              Pulsar/discover.

              RTR.

All the above can be fitted with some modifications. So the mech has to be knowledgeable,it really is not a big deal.

If you are interested in TVS girling unit, you can contact Sri Ganesh auto at Jayanagar .

Or you can source a pricol one of the yamaha and weld the mounting brackets on to the fork leg.The choice is yours.

Pricol unit will be cheaper, something like 3 to 4k. My advise would be to buy the assembly itself ,as it will be cheaper in comparison to buying the parts individually like i did.

              Well maintained bike!

I've attached pics of my bike/girl ,you can see the disc brake and yeah now it has RTR crash guard.

              @All

It's not worth selling our bikes.Period.

Keep it and if bored modify it to 180/200.

I think you have made the right decision, I somehow does not personally like the Alloys On the Fiero, don't know why.

A simple wash ? Kool, the problem with me is I never get down to washing & It will be only done during the time of service , I am so lazy one point & secondly thier is no proper place to wash my bike in our apartment

Regarding the disc brakes - Gixxer has replied & I have 1st hand experience & his disc set up is as good as OEM's

                    Now you got my attention.

How reliable will the bike be after such a mod? Where can i find a competent, 100% trustworthy mech to do this for me? Ballpark figure of cost of such a mod would be helpful.

I understand that reliability takes a dip after some mod's but to what extent?

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

P.S. Your bike looks fab too. We should have a G2G sometime

I want to see how your handlebar is dipping towards the ends.

                        @ all

I rode my fiero in my last visit to the mech as the engine was closed and almost finished, with the dip in the head unit, i don't feel its as powerful.
In-fact its fitted now with K&N and 125 main jet, i feel its become even much more weaker than before.
The best feature however is NO KNOCKING at wacking the throttle in any gear.
I fitted the compression guage to test the compression, but the problem is that the guage knob which plugs in the spark plug area is actually hand made by lathe guy and not upto the mark, the threads are damaged a bit, i thought if i still try to plug this in, my head's threading will damage so didn't go ahead...

i asked my mech to give me a ride of a stock fiero, as there was one suzuki fiero self start come for work, i rode it for the same amount of time, on the same road, it seemed much more weaker.

I am in big confusion, has my power gone down ??
or have moved up in the revv range ??

Bike is however still at the mech will take a few more days to finish...
Giving a lot to a fiero.
Expecting a lot from a fiero.

Bike will be as reliable as any RTR on street. That is if you go for a RTR 160/180 bore kits. Both will get your fiero to a bit less than 180 cc set up,the RTR180 has a .5 mm bigger bore than that of the RTR160.

You can get the head's combustion area widened to use the current engine head with the new bore,or you can put a used RTR engine head , the only difference will be that of a different cam and bigger inlet valve(180) the RTR's have.

If you go for a RTR head then because of the cam the bike will have lot of bottom end shove, that is the bike will jump around like an RTR 180.With the fiero cam the top-end will increase.

You would need a bigger carb, that is a 29mm one ,which you can source from the used market.

All these things including the disc brake conversion can be done at ZEN TVS.I
am in good terms with Mr Krishnamurthy, one of the partners of ZEN TVS and he will take care of everything.

The cost of a new RTR 160/180 bore kit is 2,400 Rs and it's just a bolt on job.You need not worry about any lathe work etc ,all of these will be taken care of at ZEN TVS.

Now ,coming to my bike's set up,it's been over-bored to 195 cc with the installation of a KARIZMA piston with a new sleeve.I got all these works done myself ,because at that time there were no RTR180 spares available and i had no idea that the RTR 160 bore kit can be fitted to Fiero. In short i didn't know ZEN TVS and it cost me 2,200 Rs including ZMA piston kit, cast iron sleeve ,porting, valve lapping ,engine-head expansion valve train re-set etc.

The better alternative for you is to go for the RTR bore kit and leave everything to ZEN TVS.

Our resident coil and lighting expert Nanotech has done it , albeit in installments ,as and when problems arise.

If done properly, your bike will rev silk smooth and won't have any vibes like that of the RTR's.

I have gotten the TCI ignition of the RTR 180 installed too which is a good thing ,but not a must. The good thing about it is ,along with all the benefits of TCI over CDI ,it doesn't have a rev limiter.

Sure thing buddy,i'll post a snap of the handle position. The digital camera is a goner and the only camera working at the moment is dad's Film SLR camera. So if Abhilashabhi takes a snap of it ,it'd be quicker.Or else i will post it by the coming sunday.

The reason you felt a lessening of power is because of the drop in compression. But since porting has been done, tune the carb to get the same kinda color on the plug as before. The good thing is that there's no knocking, which will improve engine life.

K&N won't bring any power until you get something done to the exhaust.I say this because you have already gotten the porting done.Don't forget to cover the filter with foam.

Like i said before ,the cam is the one which makes the RTR jump around.

Yes the power-band has moved higher up the rev range ,get the carb tuned to the right level and then you will find a increase in top-end.

Performance is a sum total of all the things done and you have already done most of it.
                            You have :1.Bigger bore

                            2.Bigger carb

                            3. Porting

The present. You can make out the handle position to an extent,it's level with the seat and you can make out the foot peg, handle and seat geometry too.The self designed rear sets are not elegant ,but robust and easy to install and take off without any welding being done to the chassis. So bolt on basically. The riding position has been described as being "punishing" by others of course! I've toured on it and it's very comfortable for the lower back ,as most of the weight will be taken up by the arms and shoulders. The road grip is fantastic!! because of the forward weight bias and the feedback from the front end is amazing.
