TVS has definitely been too late with the RTR200. I hope it does well though considering that the Duke 200 and Pulsar 200NS have already eaten up most of the market. Suzuki on the other hand has completely missed the bus.

Well coming back to the main topic now, my friend is going to check out the Fiero Classic today and the F2 sometime during the week. Going by this thread the Classic obviously the better of the 2 but the F2 does have some points in it's favour:
    1. It's the newer of the 2. (2005 vs 2003).
    2. It's run less (15K vs 70K)
    3. The quoted price is cheaper (15K vs 25K). So the final settled price will be lower too.
    4. The seller is a private seller (Private Seller vs True Value Employee). Negotiations will be easier.
    5. It has a front disk (Disk brake vs Drum Brake).
    6. It's got the better instrument cluster (Speedo+Tacho+Fuel Gauge vs Speedo+Fuel Guage).
    7. It's got a self start (Self Start vs Kick Start).
    8. Owner is leaving abroad (Distress sale vs Opportunist sale)

Now is the Fiero Classic that much better than the F2, that I should ignore the above and go for it or does it make more sense to buy the F2. Other than that the Classic has a nice registration number. Personally I prefer the looks of the classic except for the wierd fairing compared to the F2's more paletable one (which in case case on both bikes has been replaced by round domes).

Mind wholeheartedly says F2 whereas heart says Classic. What does XBHP say?

There are some mechanical changes done to the engine of the f2 in comparison to that of the classic fiero. But since you won't be keeping the bike stock, you can go for F2/fx.

The engine and silencer note are totally muted in F2. If you like silent bikes go for it. Else Classic Fiero's megaphone will keep you entertained

Correct. Besides the exhaust of the F2 looks real ugly.

Also the below 3 points have to be considered.

My neighbour who's a broker said that F2's going rate in Goa is just 6K and not many takers. For that price it's a no brainer. No if I get the Classic from the true Value guy for 12K which will not be an easy task, I'll go for it. My friend was to check the bikes today but had to push it to tomorrow due to other work commitments.

The Classic Fiero guy says he has an offer of 14K but his expectation is 15k. I said my max offer is 10k. He says he will discuss with his dad and get back. I'm looking to close this deal soon. Then I'll become a proper participant of this thread.

Mechanically perfect. Chrome has rust and paint work is ok. I'll tell my friend to go with cash tomorrow.

Why is TVS so possessive about the service manuals? I searched everywhere but cannot find one. Can anyone help me on this? Can we buy a copy from the SVC? I'm also looking for the owners manual of the Classic Fiero. Anyone willing to scan theirs and send me?

                    Here the updated plan.

                    1. Buy the Bike: This should be happening today.

                    2. General Service: Get the bike working as a stock bike should so I can ride and enjoy it for a while in stock form before doing any mods. This will also include as much de-rusting as possible of the chrome and paint touch up of painted parts followed by a polish.

                    3. Front Disk Brake: As per this thread, I can either go for the F2 unit on the LHS or an Apache unit on the RHS, of course using the F2 hub as I would want to retain the spoked wheels. However I may also consider alloys if i can get a set cheap. What if I go with the Pulsar disk with the Pulsar fork lower tubes. Is it possible and more importantly is it cheaper than the F2 or Apache units?

                    4. Fairing: The original fairing is missing and replaced by a round dome. My options are; Retain the dome, put an original fairing, or put some other fairing like that of the Flame or Apache. Please suggest.

                    5. Swingarm: This will be done only when the chain is due for changing. My options are the Victor GX, Victor GLX or Apache RTR 160 swingarms. Please suggest. How about the Honda Unicorn's with a monoshock conversion.

                    6. Tachometer: I intend retaining the original speedo so want a separate tacho unit. Please suggest.

                    7. Tyres: For the moment shortlisted the Michelin Sirac Street if I'm retaining the spokes. Anything better you can suggest?

                    8. Alloys: If and only if something cheap comes by. How much does a set of Apache alloys cost. Can the ones from a Pulsar be fitted? Whats the cost? Any other options. Alloys means most certainly switching to 17" so tyres will need to be decided accordingly.

                    9. Big Bore: Either the Apache 180 or 200 bores and pistons or rebore with a Pulsar 220 piston. Either stock head with some mods or buy the head of the 180/200. Again here cost is a factor so need to select a cheaper option.

                    12. Paint job: Most probably metallic blue with just the Suzuki and Fiero decals like the first Fiero. The Fiero is further to the rear as compared to the later models with the additional graphics (See photo). Second option is the same theme in black but with a contrasting chassis in orange/blue/red.

                    13. Clutch / Crankcase covers: This bike is a TVS so the LHS cover is blank and the RHS has TVS. Looking to replace these with the Suzuki ones (See photo). Where can I source them from?

                    14. 5-Speed Conversion:
If and when I find an Apache Engine or at least the bottom half of it. This actually makes point no.12 pointless.

Now of course this Plan of Action depends on various factors like cost, time, availability of parts and the right mechanics to execute the job. This project is not for me to have a really high performance bike (I'm reasonably satisfied with my humble Duke 390) but just to do what can be done to the Fiero and to keep me busy during my leave. Of course I can spend money and get all the jobs done but that's not the point. The idea is to do it in the most cost effective way. I plan do doing it in phases.

                    Phase I: Items 1,2,3 & 13.
Phase II: Items 4, 5, 6 & 7. 8 if implemented will have to be in this phase.
                    Phase III: Items 9, 10, 11 & 12.
Phase IV: Item 14 if implemented.

Please give your suggestions/opinions on my plans. Any estimated costs for the planned jobs will be appreciated.

F2 is an awesome bike. I have one. The bike I had when in college. Dads used bike.

Trustable bike. Good to see that there's a thread for that.

Have done several 1 full day rides with this.

Taken to Bangalore from chennai & back. While returning engine oil is dry 50km away from home but still managed to pull till home. From then it's resting in home for short rides. Now dormant. Have to give for servicing.

I think I may have owners manual somewhere in my PC. Ll search and post here. Not sure about service manual.

Bought an scrap like bike for my construction site for 3 months usage. Forgot to check the oil and engine got stuck. Hard to use kicker.

Any tips on getting it back on road.

Not gonna rebore I would rather sell it for scrap. But anything that costs around 1-1.5k is ok.
