Company specified top speed is 129 kmph which is more than enough for the indian roads.

No buddy, i haven't installed yet but did a lot of research on them and installing it in a week, Minda and Xenos are one of the best suited Antitheft alarms for bikes but what I'm concerned about are semsitive electronics of ZMR. I will let you know when I do this, got 2 Xenos for 1300INR, ome for the Karizma and other for my P220.

Reno I did 130Kmph with pillion on ZMR last week , I must admit Engine is far more refined and less stressed than my P220 at those speeds.

130 kmph with a pillion?? is it a stock bike or is it that both you and the pillion together weigh 65 kgs

I haven't been on a P220 on long rides so I can't comment on it.. but from my experience.. doing a 5200 kms ride in 5 days at high speeds of 100 - 120 kmph constantly without any problem with a small bike like ZMR.. fantastic experience came back home without any problem.. the engine still sounded the same with no extra noise except the plastic fairing is rattling here and there

still haven't got her serviced except oil change and she is still running fine.. Oh My Black Pearl "I Love You"

by the way.. You have a P220? I thought it was P180 :banghead:

don't go for the anti-theft alarms.. they could cause serious electrical problems..

Top speed is purely academic but the way the bike feels at top speed is what matters. Hero always is modest when posting top speed, and hero bikes top speed increases after the engine gets set and free.

I remember when the first CBZ was launched hero mentioned a top speed of 100 kph but it used to hit 112-113 kph quickly. Similarly in my Joy it has been mentioned 85 kph but i have hit 98 on gps with speedo showing 105 kph. And that is not the end as many times i have hit 110 kph so the true speed will be somewhere 99 kph.

On my extreme i have hit a top speed of 121 kph which is the true speed as the meter is correct with GPS.

On the Zmr i have hit 129 kph with pillion and i am sure if i would have waited then it would have crossed 130 kph. The new ZMR i think after engine settles down will touch 135-138 kph easily.

What matters how the engine is maintained. Its because RohIIT was also not able to cross 111-113 kph on his extreme. But when i advised him to adjust tappets and carburetor as per my procedure, he hit 119 kph without breaking a sweat.

Can you explain how adjusting the tappets helps in performance? nooby question i Know but would love to know if you can explain.. too bad ZMR isn't carb to help with adjustments..

Tappets are not only required to be adjusted for compression or making sound less. But Tappets need to be periodically checked as with bike running the valve and valves seat wear out and thus decreasing clearance and loosing compression. Also the valve clearance determines the timing of valves closing and opening and also the overlap time of valve opening. Too less clearance and bike will have more valve overlap and fresh mixture will also be pushed out with exhaust gas. too much clearance and valve will not open on time and also will have lag in throttle response. The problems with valves increases at high speeds as valve overlap increases as engine speed increases. So if tappets are tight then more fresh air fuel mixture is wasted through the exhaust port. So adjusting tappets to company specs always helps in maintaining the bike at peak performance. No it is not a nooby question but in fact a nice question and this is what makes or breaks a engine or head job in four stroke engine. Adjusting tappets is a job which requires knowledge. Also if you have seen that some bikes feel tight to ride and some bike feels loose and delight to ride. That is the difference in tappet adjustments in both bikes. In fact i always check the tappets every 6k kms with feeler gauge as they will tighten up if you are frequently at high speed due to valve and seat wear. And ZMR is FI which is a delight as it compensates for changes in weather and altitude. A carb will not compensate and will loose out on performance.

I am jumping here , sibun is right i thought if a top speed of bike is say 115 then realistically we touch 110 kmph as theoritical and empirical values are always different . But once i set tappets to OE using feeler gauge . Now this thing required patience and perfection . Its an art on how to set tappet perfectly , sibun and shoeb are so experts they do it within 15-20 mins , i took 3 hours for same . Your manual must mention tappet clearance , just set it to that early in morning when engine is stone cold . Being FI you need not worry about AFR as ECU will always keep it at optimum setting depending upon altitude conditions . I did a GPS check and it read 118 kmph which also states how accurate zmr and xtreme speedos are .
Carb Tuning made easy (Thanks Sibun !)

Thank you for the detailed explanation I noticed some service centers don't use the feeler gauge.. they use their hands to feel the clearance.. and I don't think it is possible to do it anywhere near the recommended clearance value..

I guess it is high time I get the Tappets checked but I don't hear any tappet noise.. I only hear the timings chain noise.. besides.. my bike is eating up engine oil (very little) but no white smoke.. at times very little smoke is visible at night if I stand in front of light.. but I always thought that was dust... what could be the reason sibun?
