Heloo every one. I am Ratul From Bangladesh. i have been following Xbhp for a long time. recently i bought a Fzs v2. which has run around 1200 kms. Im expriencing timing chain noise if i take the bike to say 60 70 kmph. is it normal? i have maintained below 4500 rpms till 1000 kms. changed mobil and mobil filter at 200 kms and 1100 kms. during run in i have taken the bike to say around 85 kmph twice and and slowed down. and took it to 111 kmph after 1150 kms. thanks in advance guys. the bike has become smooth as butter after 900 kms and still remains that way though. Hi Experts,

(Pls answer our dear friend from Bangladesh first)

My FZ is at 10,280 Kms and today when i was at the SVC to adjust chain slack I was told by the SVC to replace the chain and both sprockets?

Why: The SVC said the chain adjusting nut is tightened to its maximum turns and they cannot tighten it the next time. There was no noticeable wear on the sprocket nor the chain.

On my Old Pulsar I never changed the chain upto 90,000 Km and had changed the Sprocket only once at 70,000 Km....why FZ at 10,000 KMS?

      Questions;

1.) Have any of you faced this issue?

2.) Is it not posible to remove one link in the chain and shorten it since the chain has elongated?

3.) Why does the FZ chain slaken every 4-500 kms and require tightening?

      Condition of my bike:

I am a very sedate smooth rider and get 52-53 per litre. Green light always ON)
I had 7 months back bought these three (Cleaning Brush, Motul Chain Lube and Chain Cleaner) and use it Religiously every fortnight. I even remove the cover to access /clean the small sproket near the engine

Why this thread seems to be so quiet? Hornet n others threads are so active.I am planning and interested in buying this bike from long time but can't see any new users getting attached here nor the owners sharing there experience or problems if any.
No much activity in this thread.I hope the fz sale is not affected and decreased hehehehe

Can't comment on why other owners are not posting on this thread, I will just update my own experience so far- covered around 12.5K kms on odo, millage still strong @ 47+kmpl as it was before, gear shifts are becoming smoother by the day only need chain lubing once in a while, one major issue faced was the battery dying out after 1.5 yrs the bike would just stop at signals and I would have to push start it in second gear for a week till I got time to take it to service center and they were out of batteries and I got one directly from a Exide dealer and got it replaced at service center. the Exide dealer told me they would provide 24 months of warranty to the battery but the service people say the stock batteries are only have 1 year warranty for the stock exide battery. only issue till now I faced was due to the dead battery but I got the relay changed too for 80 rs even though it worked fine, since I have heard a lot of owners facing relay problems on this thread for peace of mind. Other wise the bike is just fill it shut it and ride machine, seems that is why no owners bother coming to this thread itself.
As far as Fz sales are concerned I see twice the number of Fzs on bangalore streets than gixxer and hornets, but official sales numbers could be totally different too when you consider sales throughout India.

Yamaha should definitely work on the chain quality of Fz v2. Even my chain is slackening too often. Its really annoying. i clean and lube my chain still the problem persists. My bike has run 17000+ Kms and I have adjusted the chain thrice already. Also i highly doubt the life of the chain.

Do not do that. Bike will be short geared & need lots of gear changes because in every gear pulling range (e.g. 4K to 8K rpm band) will be less.
Yes you can do it with R15v1 or SZ series sprockets.
If you do not mind, try old fz/fazer's rear sprocket (40T), bike will tall geared & relaxed on every gears.

Are you using any relay or is it simply plug and play? And does the HS1 socket requires any modification to fit the H4 bulb or is it a direct fit?
                      HS1 bulbs are 35w/35w, roughly 800lumen.
                      H4 bulbs are 55w/60w, roughly 1400lumen.
                      H4 Led bulbs 25w gives 2500lumen, 30w gives 3000lumen.
You can find variety of led bulbs from aliexpress.com or from reputed car headlight modifiers. Now bikes are coming with LEDs, not bulbs. Switch to LED brother.

I am hearing 1st time from you that A pulsar clocked 90k kms with the stock chain and 70k kms with stock rear sprocket. An FZ-S requires a chain sprocket replacement at 16k if maintained with kerosene & gear oil EP90 (desi cheap solution) and 18-20k max if maintained with Motul kits. If you are buying motul chain spray & lube for 1000/- plus brush worth 200/-, totally 1200/- to lubricate chain to last around 20k kms. Then why not buy a whole new sprocket set worth 1595/- (1020/- chain + 350/- rear + 125/- front sprocket ).
Service center guys always try to extra-tighten the chain which will cause you to replace chain at only 10k.
Do not blindly throw bikes to service centers to maintain everything. Do learn some DIY brother..

There are a lot of DIY videos on youtube to adjust timing chain (cam chain), go through them and take a small flat head screw driver and open the cam chain tensioner plug and twist it in cold (in morning before start). There is a trick to tighten it. When you start twisting (clockwise) you will find a spring is tending the screw to bring back to earlier position. You just have to twist against it untill you reach a lock point where there is no spring back force (a stationary state where spring force ends). From that point you just try to twist it more (clockwise) about 10-15 degrees. Then you will feel that screw is tightened. Now twist in opposite (counter clockwise), after some rotation we will meet the spring back force again to tend the adjustment screw to the initial state from where you at first started. Just leave the screw and the screw will automatically will be brought to the original state with its springs force. And you are done. If there is a problem of your accessibity of hands into that small space near the engine, try remove the side panel just below the front seat. It will help you.

Actually my bike is already tall geared as I have changed my rear tyre to 140/70.The new tyre is around 14mm higher than the stock tyre, the stock sprocket is designed for the stock 140/60 tyre so as a result the acceleration has slightly decreased but I have gained a bit of top end. I was thinking of putting a 42 tooth rear sprocket as it may match with the new taller tyre.

Led lights emit white beam which I personally don't like and are pretty problematic during rainy seasons. Don't know what is the problem with Yamaha they just put puny batteries and provide a 35/35w bulb which is useless. Even bikes like the Bajaj v and the new Tvs victor come with a 55/60 headlamp. Anyways I will give the led headlamps a try. Can you tell me how much they cost and do they have both high & low beam. Are the H4 bulbs direct fit to the hs1 socket?

Using an extra teeth on rear sprocket will do no harm. You can go ahead.
Your bike is Fuel Injected and ECU can be affected, and ECU is not cheap to replace. I will not recommend you to switch to H4 55/60W. You can try LED,If you are from Kolkata, go to wellington MP Enterprise (dev da) and ask for 40W (4400 Lumen) or 30W (3200 Lumen) LED Headlight, the make is RTD, will cost you approx 1200 INR, you will never regret after buying it.

If you are kind looking for Mod you can search on facebook "RD Motovil", they are awesome.

Your bike is Fuel Injected and ECU can be affected, and ECU is not cheap to replace. I will not recommend you to switch to H4 55/60W. Ya because of the FI system I am sticking with the 35/35w bulb as the battery has to power the fuel pump all the time, & thanks for the info I will surely visit wellington and check it out.
Does the larger sprocket need a bigger chain or the stock chain will work?

Don't worry too much about the battery as Yamaha has given same hardware even on Fazer v2.0 and Fazer has 2 headlamps & both light on in high beam which means it handle 70 watts of headlamp load.

Even fazer has dual horns. I was also think the fzs v2 can handle a 55/60w headlamp but I am a bit scared to play around with the electricals due to the FI system.
I saw your post regarding changing of sprockets. I have put a 140/70 rear tyre as a result the acceleration has dulled out a bit and the bike has become a bit tall geared, I wanted to install a bigger 42 tooth rear sprocket, will the bigger sprocket need a longer chain or will the stock one work fine?
