Gear oil is recommended by Hondas CBR manual. A lot of people use it on different vehicles.
    +1.

I've been using Yamaha Scooter's 2T gear oil for my R15S chain. Its cheap but effective as f@ck. Clean the chain every 500-700 KMs with WD-40 or Zorrik, and lube it with gear oil and that's it.
IMHO, most chain lubes and sprays are overrated.

Yes, 2T oil, fresh engine oil, I've found useful. However the 500 kms interval is too much for India, where the chain gets covered by dust by 200 kms itself. It's those dust particles which stick on the chain that cause premature wear. Couple that with a frequent pressure wash and you have a chain eater.

I've changed my lubing schedule to every weekend regardless of kms done. Results have astonished me.

@leech - I'm little worried to use gear oil/engine oil as lube. Some say its good. Some say it will kill my chain pretty soon.
It will not kill your chain.. what kills your chain is lack of lubrication and regular maintenance.
I've used 'used engine oil' most of the time to keep the chain lubed and it's served me 28k km on my d200 and is due for a change shortly.

2T oil is different from gear oil. I think you meant gear oil (which could either be ep90 gear oil or simply engine oil ) which is usually filled up on the left side and takes in around 100-120ml.
2T oil is for 2 stroke bikes to be used as a mix with fuel (e.g. rx100) and is not very viscous and is designed to burn (with very less residue) with the fuel.
most manufacturer's (bike and chain) recommend gear oil.. it's works out economically and does a good job in most cases.

Has anyone tried upgrading the Horn of Yamaha FZ V2.0?

The Factory fitted Horn is 12 V 2 Amp and the the battery is 12V 4 Amps

The Chassis has a slot to attach another Horn

Will connecting a second Horn of 2 Amps cause any problems?

The FI runs on the battery hence i am skeptical

Is there any other option or ideas?
          I use double horn (denso)
          Better for my fz 2.0

You're right, I have no idea why I even mentioned 2T there. Probably caffeine withdrawal symptoms?
Here's what I use, its simple gear oil for Yamaha scoots(sorry for bad quality click) -

I'll take your word on this because you obviously have implemented this and got results. I've done 200-300 KMs lubing interval in 3 months of rain here but since then I've found 500-700 KMs to be a balance interval for normal riding and weather conditions. I didn't want to over lube the chain as well.
And because my bike is still 7000 KMs old only, I'd probably incorporate weekly chain lubing going forward for sure. Thank you for sharing your experience.

PS: When I had FZ-16 and I was a newbie, I'd lube the chain after every 1000-1200 KMs with some local gear oil and the chain still worked great for 30K KMs. Those were some noob days!

            Regards.

              WHY CLEAN ?

Cleaning is needed to get rid of the dust and fine dirt particles that gets stuck to the chain. After cleaning the chain with chain cleaner/kerosene/petrol/diesel, you can immediately feel how light the gear shifts start to feel. getting rid of the dirt on the chain is very much needed is what I feel.

I use the economic things like Petrol / Diesel / Kerosene (kerosene is the most effective one) for the cleaning process as its a repetitive process every 1000 - 1500 kms. unnecessary spending more money on cleaning agent makes no sense as a new set of chain sprocket comes cheaper.

              WHY CHAIN LUBE?

I have been using chain lubes ever since I got my first bike (6 years back) and what i observed is that chain lubes a high viscosity oil dissolved in a volatile less vicious liquid. When we spray the lube, it evenly spreads all over the chain and also gets inside the O-rings / X-rings and after some time the volatile solvent evaporates, leaving behind a greasy lubricant all over the chain. This works awesome for chains.

Gear oil on the other hand works just fine, but gear oil is quite viscous in nature and will hardly penetrate inside the O-rings or X-rings.

I use gear oil in the monsoon as I lubricate the chain every 2 - 3 days, that makes gear oil much more economical.

My first bike was Yamaha Gladiator(SS125), which is 6+ years old and has covered over 76,000 kms on odo, and it still on the original chain sprocket set. Its not even near the last adjustment mark on the swing arm. The chain did not expand much. I hardly remember adjusting it thrice in last 6 years. All I have done is cleaned the chain from time to time and lubed it with Chain Cleaners like : Wurth, Motul, Tribocor.

              PROBLEM WITH FZV2.0

The problem with the Fz v2.0 engine is the low end torque. There is a lot of bottom end torque in this engine. The chain shatters and clatters while we enjoy the low end torque causing maximum chain wear. In motorcycles like R15, chain damage is lesser though it has more power and torque than the Fz due to the very reason that there is not much low & mid end torque.

Also, I feel Yamaha India should make better quality chain for the Fz series!! Its not feasible to change the chain every now and then. All the fz users might not have so much time and might not be willing to spend too much money on drive chain. I expected atleast 40,000 kms from my Fazer v2.0 chain, but its almost nearing its and and the bike is just nearing 24,000 kms. I plan to replace the set by 30,000 kms.

the purpose of gear oil or any lubricant on a sealed chain (i.e. O-ring or X ring) is mainly to keep the O rings supple (not hardening and breaking) and provide a bit of lube on the surface of the chain(rollers). It is not supposed to penetrate the O rings.. if it does it means the O ring(s) are shot and you are due for a chain replacement.
The purpose of the O ring (which is like a tiny rubber washer) is to seal the factory lubricant inside the roller/plates and keep dust out and hence these are also called sealed chains.
Gear oil is just fine (and recommended by manufacturers), and one irritant to it is that if you over do it, it ends up dripping down for a day or two. It's usually ok to wipe out the excess using a rag.
If you guys want an economical lube for use in wet conditions , give the nulon grease spray a try. It's worked well for me when used minimally (too much of anything is not good)

                    Open type O-ring chain.

That's a correct piece of info. Thanks for the explanation.

I had read about the lubricant being sealed by the o rings, but I always thought that lubricant vanishes soon enough and external lube does get in them and keep things working in the right direction. Just my assumption.

Right hand side Fork Oil Seal got busted on Saturday, Go the oil seal, fork oil and rubber dust cap from Yamaha and got it fixed by my trusted local mechanic.

Lets see how well does it hold up now.

                      Odo reading - 23960 kms & 1 year 4 months old.

The right side seal did had problems right from the beginning. I used to notice oil marks on the fork stem specially when I hit big pot holes.

                        clocked 10K on the Odometer.

not a single complaint with the bike!!!

no stalling or falling till date, touchwood!

                        totally satisfied with this bike.

need some advice from fellow bikers, i am planning to go for servicing this weekend, what should be my checklist for post 10K servicing??

i haven't done FI cleaning since the purchase.

please let me know, also planning to go for HID projector setup for the bike, any suggestions or advices on which one goes well with yamaha FZ FI? i am very new to the mods and not a big fan of changing the stock condition. however, the stock lights are very weak i think and its becoming a problem during night rides.

That's about how much it costs. They use a basic set up to clean the injectors. Can you share the report ?
The more expensive type of injector cleaning is ultrasound cleaning.. this is what costs a lot more and only very few places have this equipment (like bosch service for cars).
