Yes, i think it is due to some manufacturing defect.Originally posted by chinmoyaj View PostIs it possible that my chain wears that badly in just 12 k kms? Chain has been maintained quite well. I myself clean and lube the chain every 500 km.
1 hh passion pro owner raised his complaint, because its chain lasted only for 10k kms. While other hh passion pro owners get 40k kms mileage from chainLive To Ride✌

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
I think I'll change the chain only. One mechanic told me that one set of sprocket will do fine with two chains. Sprocket looks fine. Noe wear there. This is the second time I'm facing problem with my bike. First my front disc pad was faulty and now the chain. One of my friend had his chain lasted for 35k.Originally posted by bala13 View PostYes, i think it is due to some manufacturing defect.

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
If you would check the manual, it mentions to change the chain-sprockets at every 12k kms.. so if you get over that, it is more than what is recommended.Originally posted by chinmoyaj View PostI think I'll change the chain only. Also the chain life depends on how the bike is ridden and how well it has been kept lubricated. So while some may get 35-40k kms life, others get 15k kms life.
And changing only the chain will decrease the chain life substantially and then you will again blame the company for poor quality. Get both the chain and the sprockets changed.
Ride safe and have fun.

It is not always a manufacturing defect. How the chain is maintained and how the bike is ridden, are main factors in determining the chain life.Originally posted by bala13 View PostYes, i think it is due to some manufacturing defect.

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
I used to clean and lubricate the chain every 500km. And I strictly prefer smooth riding. I haven't read the service manual completely. But anyway thanks for the info. The service center guy told me that my chain can't be tightened further. That is why I'll have to change the chain and sprocket.Originally posted by nadz11.ns View PostIf you would check the manual, it mentions to change the chain-sprockets at every 12k kms.. so if you get over that, it is more than what is recommended.

How many kms have you ridden?Originally posted by chinmoyaj View PostI used to clean and lubricate the chain every 500km. And I strictly prefer smooth riding. If the chain can't be tightened anymore, it has to be replaced. But also change the sprockets along with the chain.
Ride safe and have fun.

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
The Chain Sprocket Quality is horrible on the Fz / Fazer v2.0.
Recently concluded a 3100 kms trip on my 2015 Fazer v2.0. The EFI came to life while climbing the 36 hairpin bend road to Ooty, which is one of the most treacherous roads I have come across in South india. The inclination angle are extremely steep. My previous motorcycle (Yamaha Gladiator) had a horrible time climbing it due to the inclination and the altitude ( Altitude sickness due to carburetor ).
My Fazer v2.0 is running a 15T front sprocket borrowed from R15, which means the bike is tall geared, yet it climber flawlessly in first 3 gears. Only a little bit of struggle while trying to start from a dead stop. Overall experience was just awesome. Totally happy with the bike.
Also I was comfortable all through the 3100 kms while my riding mates faced body aches on their respective R15 v2.0 and R15S. One more point for touring comfort.
On highways, I did maintain 80 - 100 kmph throughout, with a little lesser fuel efficiency that R15's (around 40 - 42 kmpl) where the R15's returned around 45 kmpl. Also i weigh considerably more than both my riding partners and also i have a bigger body structure. ( More weight and wind drag)
Last 3 weeks before the trip, I prepared my bike by heavily pumping up the electrical generation and upgrading the headlamps with HID projector, runing a 4300 kelvin Philips HID bulb. The stator rewinding work was a complete gamble with atleast 4 failed attempts with various wire thicknesses and turns per pole. We finally got it right in the end though.
PM me if you need the details.
Attaching the images of my bike in broad day light. Those angel eyes are Morimoto XSB 2.0 . Visit : https://www.theretrofitsource.com/ for more info on it.
Will share the night projection pics in some time. The Night riding experience with the lighting system has completely changed. Feels like day light even in the darkness.

Instead of getting the chain and sprocket replaced from Yamaha SVC, you can get it done outside by some local mechanics,Originally posted by bobisbacktorock View PostThe Chain Sprocket Quality is horrible on the Fz / Fazer v2.0.

Get the ROLON chain and sprocket from the motorcycle spare parts/accessories shop, the ROLON are even better than the stock OEM fitted.
You will save some bucks too.
Cheers.

My chain gave up just in 12k kms. I'm yet to replace the sprocket and the chain. Will try out the ROLON. Is there any chance that my warranty might be affected as I'll be going for aftermarket parts instead of OEMs.Originally posted by IamAditya View PostInstead of getting the chain and sprocket replaced from Yamaha SVC, you can get it done outside by some local mechanics,

No issues with the warranty, as the tyres, chain and sprocket all are wearable parts.Originally posted by chinmoyaj View PostMy chain gave up just in 12k kms. So don't worry.
OEM Chain and sprocket of my RS200 lasted only 11.5k kilometers, not that bad too i guess, i was lazy on maintaining on lubing and cleaning it.
At bajaj SVC they will charge 3k for chain and sprocket plus service charge.
I did it outside by a local mechanic, total costs was ₹1950 (rolon chain 1650 + Labour charge 300)
Cheers.

Re: Yamaha FZ16 version 2.0
I used to clean and lube my chain every 500 kms. I used to do that myself. Still it gave up. I was expecting the chain to last atleast 20k. This time I'm going for ROLON. Hope to get some positive results.Originally posted by IamAditya View PostNo issues with the warranty, as the tyres, chain and sprocket all are wearable parts.
