thank you for your prompt reply.i know those are good advise. and i understand its not a good idea to buy a vehicle for just one month use. but this is the main reason prevented me from owning a vehicle for 10 long years. but the desire of having fresh new bike soothes everyday and cant take the pressure any more. still my brain says dont buy while hearts says you live only once, get it. so i would probably buy gixxer. will winterize it. but i need some more advise in winterizing other than from google. Habshan i googled it, but most of things need for winterization might not be available in India like fuel stabilizer etc. need some alternatives. thanks

I have been reading the thread for the last one week. it is so useful, i got so many informations. thank you guys for educating me.
I was attracted to bike when i was a teenager, but there was no fund, nobody to backup. I grown up by my own. a bicycle was the best i could get in those days.
then moved abroad for job and used to visit home every year for 30 days. i was using rented bikes during those times. but now bike rentel in my area is almost vanished since
there are strict police instruction because the rented bikes were used for robbery and other illegal activities. last time it was hard to get one and decided to buy one next time. and in this October i am due for the next visit, and wants to buy one. gixxer is my choice.
But there are some concerns:

I would use the bike for 30-40days and then it will be left unused in the garage for another 11 months. there are no trustworthy friends around,
so i am not letting anyone else having the key.

1. what will be the problems if a bike kept unused for this much longer period?
2. what are measures to be taken for keeping the bike unused?
3. how to manage the battery?

i hardly get time for the first service, but then cant keep up the schedule for 2nd service and so on. will that be a problem?
3. will the svc deny servicing if i failed in keeping schedule?

whats you advice guys. i cant really make up my mind.

thanks in advance.
There are storage maintenance procedure prescribed by the manufacturer for each bike. You can find that in the bike's user manual usually. But think? Even that's a pain when you're not closer to the bike. As mentioned in earlier posts, just get a second hand bike which will also require storage maintenance. But then, if you are getting it at 1/4th the price of a new gixxer, then you needn't worry about the resale value and moreover you can comfortably lend it to your friends or acquaintances who will use it sedately for the rest of the year. It's a waste of money from many's point of view but if you're financially sound enough and don't mind shelling out that much, then you can go ahead with your choice. I hope like everyone else you will love your bike too and its difficult to stay away from the bike when you love it. So something emotional, you mustn't let your bike rot here when you're chilling out there in some other country Forget about the initial services, even a well serviced bike would require so much attention. If I were in your position, I would get a second hand scooter through a friend or someone who is trustworthy and use it. For the rest of the year I will lend it to the same friend or someone who will use it. After all scooters are easy for you to ride in our traffic compared to what you got there. And remember there will be many takers for the scooter as it can even be used daily for going to the nearby grocery shop and would be under usage for the rest of the time as well because of its easy to use nature and its ability to fulfill utility demands like carrying loads and groceries.

And think about this one too. Get your friend's bike for that one month and hang around. Else meet him/her daily, bug for a ride and go on with them as your pillion Best way

Go on get your dream fulfilled! what's the point in earning and not being satisfied? You can find good storage maintenance procedure in the manual. Be sure to leave it in good hands before you leave!

I'm a guy who constantly goes abroad and comes back. So I can understand exactly what you're going through. If you've been holding back for 10 years, do yourself a favour and get the bike, it will surely be worth the pain.

About fuel stabilizers, the reason why you need to fill up the petrol tank is because, if you leave it empty, the fuel tank will rust. And when fuel sits for that long, it goes bad, it gets kinda gummy. Try to get the fuel stabilizer abroad or you can just drain the whole petrol after getting back, which is a painful thing to do.

I looked up all these things last year, so just verify these things online.

I don't have any such issue buddy. I may just have a faulty fuel gauge.

Hi,

What is onRoad price you paid for this beauty, i am planning to buy it tomorrow and dealer in east delhi quoted me 86K which includes apart from on road price, Some zero depreciation and Cashless insurance + leg gaurd + seatcover + footrest for sarregaurd + HSRP Number Plate + 3 Year Extended Warranty.
I am not sure if quoted price is good or not.

Ever considered purchasing a bike in the country you will be living in for 11 months than getting it here in India?

If I were you, that is what I would do. Living away from a bike for 1 month is better than living away from one for 11 months.

You don't have to worry about changing battery. The price is ever changing and enquire about it when you change it. And batteries can be charged so don't worry when you're not going to use your bike till the battery needs replacement try to get the bike in the country where you live for 11 months much better feel that one

i lives nearby by office and company is providing transportation if needed. buying and maintaining a bike here is expensive than buying and keeping 11 months in india, and here is no time for biking. why i need a bike in india is not only for the sake of having one but for touring and commuting. so i think hibernation is the only choice i have. Thanks for your suggestions anyway.

Buy a trickle charger. Google that as well.

Cheers !
