I too have the same issue.. Down shifting is pain in the A** especially while riding in city traffic

So, my Gixxer's second servicing was done at odometer reading of 2500 approx. I have been keeping a good watch on the mileage post the servicing and to my very surprise the figures have been very disappointing at 32-34 kmpl for a run of good 650 kms post the servicing (odometer at 3200 aprox. now).

The figures are exclusively to a) City ride conditions during peak hours only (office is 5 kms away from my place) where the bike speed varies from 5 km/hr to 40 km/hr with frequent stops b) Reserve to reserve method

Prior to the 2nd servicing it was somewhere between 42-44 kmpl which is decent number considering the traffic of Gurgaon where the gear changes are frequent and clutch is engaged most of time during peak hours.

Now, have planned to take the last reading with 40% city and 60% highway condition. Today went for a ride of 84 kms (to-and-fro) and will again go for a 100 km ride tomorrow if weather allows me to do so.

The 'get it done' list is increasing for 3rd service, here it is:

1. Engine paint peeled off
2. Disc break rusting
3. Clutch and throttle adjustments
4. Air filter cleaned - not sure the servicemen did it last time
5. Low mileage (new problem)

Today after the ride of 84 kms (20 min in middle) with average speed of 60-62 km/hr I could smell the same 'burnt' odor from the bike as if the engine is new which is a thing of concern for me. Would need some help on this from you people, is it common for all? Have there been such experience even after second service?

Also, I had to reset Ideal RPM to 1500 count (fully warmed up engine) as the Ideal RPM would naturally get lowered in due course. Is this a problem or a natural thing with other owners also?

Have been facing this issue also. Will report it to the SVC and make sure it gets resolved.

Just curious to know what can be the problem?

1. Clutch and throttle adjustment?
2. Problem exclusive to gear mechanism?
3. In due course things will be smoother.

1. Have tried this buddy. Doesn't seem to work as expected. Every time I go to svc, they tight the clutch cable. But the gear not slotting in problem still exists. I'm fed up of clutch cable adjustment. One time he adjusted the spindle inside clutch box. It felt a bit better after that. But, issue exists.

2. Exclusive ..? I don't know. But its a pain in the ...

3. No. That's just a belief. Honda Dazzler which I own has fantastic shifter. It's butter even after 40k kms.

Not sure if it has enough juice for such a trip.

Thanks all.
I had recently been on a trip on my gixxy. We had 2 gixeers 1 grey (mine) 1 red, 1 apache rtr 180, 1 pulsar 150, 1 1988 RE Bullet.
Well more than satisfied with my gixxy now. Covered a total distance of 720 kms. We started from Thane. The trip was from Thane to Dapoli to Ganpatipule and back in two days.

Now the Comfort, well your ass does go numb after 150 odd kms, then I just stand for a bit and the problem gets solved. Ride quality is a bit soft. I haven't changed the suspension setting since i bought it, it's on 5 I guess and the bike goes on small potholes and small bumps without any issues but u need to keep an eye on the road as I had a few bad bumps which made me feel my bones. We did ride on good as well as bad roads. Even did offroading during the the trip as the rain gods were happy. The tyres!!! Hell yeah. When I got the bike I thought I would change it to Michelin pilot street (forgive me as I can't recollect the exact name) but the wet grip on the mrf's is actually good. We did ride through the KASELI GHAT . Well my friend who had been cornering in for around 2 yrs got the chance to ride the gixxer. And guess what at every single corner of the GHAT he scraped the footpegs. The bike gives you enough confidence to go in the corners and flick it all the way around. Well I've just started cornering and knew my limits. But still even I felt safe in leaning the bike on wet roads.

Well now the fuel efficiency. I got an average of 47 kmpl!!! Which was way more than the other gixxer which got 42 kmpl. The only difference in mileage was due me running on higher gears with lower rpms and he running on lower gears with higher rpms. What more can u ask for. A bike great on performance for a 150 category, great fuel efficiency, sweet tyres, muscular looks.

I think suzuki has finally found the code. Yes there are certain issues here and there. The paint peeling off just above the tail lamp but it's hardly noticeable. The rusting issue yes I had done some sort of black coating that to below the bike to prevent rusting. The only thing rusting is my chain which started after my ride. That's sorted now as got the chain lubed. Well I just see people complaing on some or the other issue in this thread, yes the bikes got few issues but not even a single con. Suzuki India hat's off for making such a product. Finally in love with this beast now!!!

Just give some throttle input before downshifting while pressing the clutch.

It isn't practical all the time but helps most of the time.

Blipping... Giving a quick throttle, slightly increasing the rpm just before applying the clutch for downshifting.

Hello mates! So this is the update from my previous post on mileage concerns.

Went for a ride of 104 kms today towards Delhi-Jaipur highway. The weather was favorable for a bike trip so thought have having good food also at Old Rao Dhaba.

The mileage is just the opposite of city ride. Derived mileage of 49 kmpl overall with 70% highway and 30% city ride mix. I am pleased with the figures now.

Sharing the details weekend trip:

1. Total: 217 kms
2. Fuel consumption: 4.38 lts
3. Cost: INR 300
4. Average: ~49 kmpl
5. Top speed: 77 km/hr
6. Average speed: 55-58 km/hr

Issues:

1. The burnt odor is still prevalent
2. Some squeaking sound from rear tire. Can be due to mud or lack of lubrication (wet road conditions to be blame for that)

Next week, I'm planning for a trip to Alwar (132 kms approx.). Let me know if anyone would like to join.

Hello friends, I have improved turning radius of my Gixxer by incline handle a bit towards rider. Now it feels awesome while doing U turns. Also in tight traffic. Sasank : I can join you. Can we make plan for 14th Aug. as 15th most of places would be closed. We can leave around early morning and then back accordingly. Friends from NCR zone please join and also suggest any good place 100-150kms from Delhi. Thanks.

The other way is apply enough pressure on the lever first, and apply clutch, it will slot in perfectly. It works for both up\down shifts.

Hey guys,

Been a while since my last post.
So...as I said before svc switched my oil from the 10w40 default to a 20w40.
While this definitely improved smoothness, some tractability was lost, as bike I felt was a little sluggish. Really enjoyed it, but wanted the same response from my 10w40.
On Saturday, I finished my quota of 2k kms, and and asked them to replace with my MOTUL Fully Synthetic 10w40.

All I can say is, its awesome.e and would recommend this oil heartily. Immediately went on a short high speed burst trip and I was extremely satisfied.
>Same degree of smoothness
>Almost same amount of responsiveness in engine as default 10w40...very miniscule difference.
> Engine warms up a bit, but the synthetic ensures engine is at Luke warm temp.(Really didn't feel the engine heat at all in the 20w40)
> Gearshifts...pretty much same overall
> Engine Sound...dunno how to put this, but it was kid of muffled before..but now feels a bit more audible(?)...maybe this is just random.

>>>Coolness Factor-- The oil is blood red cherry in colour, and really likes blood pumping the heart of the machine

Reason for change..
In the furnace of 'May' went for close to 2k km trip...without resting the engine appropriately...did 640km in a day! While this may sound great, I kinda felt I might have hurt the engine a bit, although bike performed amazingly...especially as minerals tend to tear.

Sorry for the wall of text, but Tl;Dr..
Thus FS 10W40 gives the best of both worlds, and will really hold up well on extended highway runs. Really pleased with the results.

P.s- didn't face any cold start roughness as well, as few people told me to look into.

Bangalore - Chennai:

Filled a tankful of Shell petrol the night before the journey and left early in the morning. On State Highways, cruised at around 70 to 80 kmph and on National Highways cruised at around 80 to 90 kmph. Finished the 365 km journey and the bike was still running on mains. Over the next few days rode another 83 kms in city riding conditions and the bike still didn't hit reserve.

It was time to return to Bangalore again, so reached a Shell petrol pump in Chennai and asked them to fuel the bike to a tank full again. He filled up 8.99 litres before petrol reached the fuel nozzle at the top indicating a tankful. So 365+83 = 448 kms done using 9 litres of petrol. This equates to a mileage of 50 kmpl on highways when cruising at 70 to 90 kmph speeds. I am a happy man and I checked air levels on both wheels again before heading home. @srinath2494 sorry I couldn't meetup due to prior commitments during this trip. There is always a next time.

Now the sad part.

Chennai - Bangalore:

As usual, left Chennai early in the morning. Having just discovered the previous night that the Gixxer gave me 50 kmpl on highways, I wanted to test if I can further enhance the mileage on this bike. So kept the bike between 70 and 80 kmph on the speedometer strictly. It was windy for about 80% of this journey (which wasn't the case during my onward trip). The fuel meter start dipping too quickly. I was telling myself maybe the digital fuel meter is showing wrong readings or has become faulty. But 325 kms after I started riding this bike on a tankful(12 ltrs) I hit reserve. That's a mileage of 33.8 kmpl for this trip which is quite shocking. I can't think of any reasons why there is such a drastic drop in mileage level as only the previous night I got a 50 kmpl mileage on the same highway.

Would appreciate it if mods/experienced tourers could give me some insights on why this happened and if I have to get anything checked.
Hey bro,
I experienced the exact same thing.
New oil, plus proper air and full tank, bike gave me 47 at 85-95, bangalore-chennai.

From chennai-rameshwaram and return to Bangalore bike gave me ~35.

The only variable that I could pinpoint was Engine oil quality.
Do let me know what you think.
Just changed to MOTUL 7100 FS. Plz read prev. Post. I will let everyone know how mileage changes for my next trip, if indeed the variable was Engine oil level.

Also, I feel how the engine behaves behaves once fully loosened and warmed up. The way it picks up speed once you throttle past a 100 is really pleasing..maybe fuel flow gets effected..dunno...clutching at straws here
