    Hello fellow xbhp-ians,

Has anyone taken their Gixxers' for a long trip (>1000km) or so? How was the ride quality, comfort levels.
Not sure if it has enough juice for such a trip.

    Thanks all.

Hi, anyone faced rusting issue on disc and exhaust muffler and got replaced by SVC for free?
I'm facing that rusting issue, shall I directly goto SVC and ask for replacement?

Last night I had my first bike ride in a downpour, and it was fun!

It was about 10pm, and I was halfway home when it started raining heavily. I'd been finding it hard to keep a steady pace until then as every time I sped up, I'd find the road blocked by bikes on the left side, and cars on the right. But then it began pouring, and all the bikes moved off the road and found shelter under trees, and the cars began keeping their lane, and suddenly I found the road clear.

I sped up and rode as fast as visibility allowed. The roads were wet, but not once did the bike skid or feel out of control. I knew the roads, and was aware of all the potholes and bumps so I didn't think there was any danger in speeding (relative to my inexperience as a rider). It was great to push the bike, hear its roar, and feel it so planted.

The ride home was a rush, and would have been perfect except for once incident with the gears, where when I was down shifting at a signal, it took 3-4 attempts to find a gear.

I had rusting on the exhaust, bolts on the handlebar etc. I put an email to Suzuki. They asked me bring the bike to the SVC for inspection. I did that. And after inspection, the SVC has cleaned the rust on all those parts. They say they have given a layer of anti-rust coating. Let's see how it goes.

I suggest you put a mail to Suzuki.

First step you should contact the Service Supervisor at the SVC, then the Area Sales Manager of Suzuki. Put your grievances to them in writing, through email or through registered post. If they don't come to help you within a reasonable time, then move the Consumer Forum for deficiency of Service.

Just completed the 3rd service. Here are some notable points:
                1. Gear shifting.
One thing i would like Suzuki to sit up and look into. Sometimes its too hard shifting these gears. Especially downshifting. Takes the fun out of riding such a good bike.
                2. Rusting.
Bolts on the handle bar, front disc break and front suspension, exhaust. Good quality steel must not rust. Makes you feel of substandard quality of an otherwise well built machine.
                3. Switchgear.
Engine kill switch color fades. Poor quality plastic. The headlight on/off switch and hi/low beam switch doesn't work properly. Quality is below par.
                4. Headlight
Headlights have poor light throw and are insufficient for highway riding.
                5. Poor / Below par Service by Authorized Service Centers. No idea about the bike or its philosophy. Non responsiveness. Avoidance of customer's concerns. Doubtful about quality of Mechanics at SVC.
                6. Mud splashing
Great headache for those who are caught in downpour. Mud splash from front tyre causes a mess on the engine. Ride on wet roads is sure to mess up your shoes and pants. Bad for office goers. Hard to do cleaning after every ride. To this extent, not a thoughtful design for Indian streets.
                7. Low ground clearance. Slow down at speed breakers/humps. Watch out while off-roading.
                8. Superb seating posture. Good handlebar position. No tiredness even after straight 400kms riding. Plenty of room for your butt. (Pillions please excuse, nothing in here for you.) Precarious seating position for pillion. Rider gets crushed by pillion on emergency breaking.
                9. Superb cruising and excellent handling. Once you get past the gear shifting troubles, the ride is excellent. Smooth.
                10. Nice digital display. Has pretty much everything you want to know.
                11. Fuel cap design can be improved. Issue with water getting accumulated on the fuel cap, although there is a tiny hole for seepage.
                12. Rear grab rails/bars look great, but are not useful for tying luggage. (I have been figuring out several ways to tie a bungee cord, but every time the chord slips out.) Sometimes your leg gets caught at the open end of the grab rail.
                13. Unlucky with the breaks?! Breaking is not precise. Mind your speed and keep good distance. However the tyres are excellent and bike doesn't loose its balance on sudden breaking.
                14. Mileage has been erratic for me. From 43 to 55 kmpl...but then it is subjective. Depends on lot of things and varies from person to person.

So, I guess that's all. Please share your views.

I usually cover my bike with rain cover before parking it inside my compound. There were rains in the evening for a week continuously. After 4 days, when I took the bike out, there was mild rust on the discs. Well, the whole of the front wheel was dry as such but I have to blame the moisture around the place. I cleaned the rust on the edges of the disc with a lil spirit based liquid. Luckily not much of rusting. Other parts were dry, completely. No rusting on handlebars or bolts.

I dont mind cleaning my bike so the dirt doesn't bother me. I clean it now and then after the ride once the engine cools down. It's troublesome if you have to do it more often or the dirt accumulation is really high in every gap and crevice.

I feel that the right side switchgear can have better feel while turning on the parking light. Gets stuck now and then and needs more push from the thumb. Headlight and horn are inherently so feeble in this bike so I am not talking about it again.

Other than these minor problems, I am gutted about the fact that there are no curvy roads in my locality or in my city except for a few flyovers :P :/ Its so much fun cornering on this bike!

Exactly same story bro. Can't imagine riding through Infopark front gate on a rainy day to office.

                    10. Nice digital display. Has pretty much everything you want to know.
I miss a side stand indicator. Just saying. Our console is excellent and best in class.

                    14. Mileage has been erratic for me. From 43 to 55 kmpl...but then it is subjective. Depends on lot of things and varies from person to person.
My ride covered only 3.2K kilometres. Before first service I got 55kmpl (might be because I was riding it gently and below 4k RPM all the time). When I gave it for first service I told them that I am having a good mileage so tuning for mileage is not required. That time SVC guy told me that "Don't worry sir we won't touch the carb without user request" (Manikandan Motors). After first service mileage came down to 45kmpl. No matter how I ride, like gently or roughly, highway or city, with or without pillion it always returns some where around 45-47 always. Right now I am confused. Can't take a decision about talking to SVC to tune the carb for mileage. Because now the ride is snappy and very much fun to ride. The throttle response power & pick up is superb. I am afraid that I will lose it if they touched carb :-/

                      Guys,

Hardshift apart.. Sometimes after riding at say 60-70, when coming to an emergency stop, the bike doesn't respond to change in gear from 5 to lower. The gear indicator goes blank. And it is like as if moving free when pressing the gear pedal. I have to release clutch a bit and then load the lower gears. That way it works but sometimes frustating and taking away the pleasure of riding this beast.
                      Anyone face similar issue?

I have a similar problem ever since the last servicing. The gear indicator shows blank and it takes some fiddling to put the bike in gear again. It happens while downshifting but the pedal isn't free as in your case. The problem wasn't there before I sent it for servicing.

I think most of them facing exactly same issue, its been a common issue for most Gixxers, many of them posted about same problem in previous threads...there are some drawbacks for this bike( my point of view) which should be made known to Suzuki.

Adjusted idle throttle , got the chain cleaned as well. Well now the problem is not frequent as before but it definitely exsists.
