Hey folks.. The self start has started to give troubles again..

    Engine kill on
    Press self start
    No response

    Kick start works only

Any suggestions? I'm thinking of going to a local mechanic instead of svc

      Hello Folks,

How is this Idemitsu oil? I wrote to Suzuki asking whether using Motul 7100 10w40 JASO MA2 can be used and should not interfere with the warranty. This is what i got in reply from an assistant manager at Suzuki:

      "Dear Sir,

You can change your oil to Idemitsu 10W40 with synthetic additives also available at our dealerships. Motul 7100 10W40 JASO MA2 is not tested on Gixxer hence may interfere with warranty.

      Regards"

Go to SVC, I feel this bike has some problem with electric start. My experience with it is : When you rev the bike hard during a ride and later when you try to start it ,the kick becomes ridiculously hard plus if you self start it starts when the button is pressed for 3 sec continuously.

please think before buying gixxer . I am not against to it but you should know some things before buying it.

            1. Ground clearance. it is very low when compared to other bikes. Silencer may hit the ground often, in bad roads with pillion.

            2. The. power is low when compared to apache,Honda, and pulsar. You will feel it while over taking and in gradient.

3.Pillion seat is no more comfortable. If you are a family man please avoid this bike.

            4. Some minor problems I have faced are..

1.Gear shifting issue will get better after service but not smooth.

            2.Shock obsorbe is little stiff.

            3.Rear brake is not satisfied.

            4.Loud sound at high RPM.

5.Little vibration at 4500rpm beyond that it wont exist.

6.Stock headlight position not good that much but it can be adjusted

            Main advantage.

I didn't get any vibration even at its top speed. (121kmph)

It is best for long travel.

I got 40 kmpl mileage at the speed of 80kmph for 450 km run and 30 km mileage at the speed of 100 and above for 600km run. I guess you will surely get 50 kmpl if you maintained between 60 to 70kmph.

I didn't drive any other bikes so I can't compare with any others.

My another advice is you can try with apache 200, pulsar 200 which is available at same price with more and more power.
I don't know about long run. but proper maintenance is the matter.

            check with hornet otherwise.

I won't go with Yamaha bcoz it has the lowest power in this segment.

please think and go for test drive if possible.

I have heard that Honda unicorn 150 is going to be relaunched again by Honda. please check that too.

            Thanks to all for responding.
Ground clearance i think is manageable but pillion seat is definitely a concern.
I am personally not comfortable handling heavy bikes so avoiding anything 135 kgs and above.
Although I did not test drive, tried sitting on and moving the Uni 160 and Gixxer showroom bikes and am comfortable with their weight ( 135 kgs although, both).

Uni 150 is a proven and excellent bike no doubt, and Honda is going to re-launch it but my concern is its weight (145-146 kgs i think), which is beyond what I can control. So Hornet, Pulsar, Uni 150 all are out of my list unfortunately. Don't like Apache as it vibrates a lot and the build quality is not durable in my opinion.

All in all, it boils down to Gixxer vs Uni 160 for me. Although my heart is for Gixxer, practicality dictates that I may be forced to go for Uni 160 - Lesser price than Gixxer, better mileage, better seating, etc. But have been told to wait for 2 months. customer service as well as bike servicing are definitely of concern when it comes to Honda guys.
Still spending some more time to read and analyze further before I finally make up my mind and buy.

I bought my gixxer by went through all reviews.. it made me happier in all manners..but faced some problems as I mentioned before.. It doesn't matter for me because i loved my bike.. and it was my decision to chose.. every bike owns its positive and negatives..
Choose a bike which u like...rather than others opinion...

Imho you should have a test ride of hornet. The difference is just 5kgs for standard variant and I think is quite manageable. Hornet improves upon gixxer's cons like ground clearance and pillion seat and is as much fun as gixxer.it also has cons like no kill switch and no DC headlamp but no bike is perfect and you should decide which features are more important for you.

I think there is a sensor associated with clutch, that might be faulty or try using self start holding the clutch in diff positions and check whether its starting or not.

Can anyone tell the voltage & current produced at different rpm via the stator coil(just before entering the rr unit)?

I want to take parallel supply with respect to rr unit & feed it to a new 12v 2A output regulator for usb charging.

If I take existing battery connection supply, it will drain a lot & stock rr unit won't be able to charge that quickly & also lots of modifications(rr unit, stator winding).
