Oh! I didnt know about the certification issue. If you do decide to change the oil, go for a mineral oil. I own a pulsar ns and i used the bajaj oil for the first 5000kms. The bajaj is oil notorious for its crudeness but that in a way helps with the proper breaking in of a new engine. Using a semi synthetic or full synthetic oil will screw up the new engine.

Using semi/full synth oil will not screw the new engine, it will simply not break it in properly and hence your bikes performance will not reach the optimum target. You can simply drain the oil and fill it with Dinosaur oil.

Thats what i meant by 'screwing up'. That it wont break in properly and wont have as long or as smooth a life which a properly broke in bike would have. Sorry if i created any confusion

        • Fuel Tank paint protection

Hi my Bike's (Suzuki Gixxer 150cc) fuel tank has started to become rough and loose the glossy finish at the place on the fuel tank where my legs touch, my bike is just 2 months old so i complained this to the Suzuki dealer and he said this is bound to happen as the my pant is getting rubbed with the lower part of the tank . My first question is this the real problem as only that areas where my pant will touch the tank is loosing the gloss and looking rough ? my second question is what i can do to contain it? i have done a lot of searching around and found out there is a solution offered by 3m called paint protection film , can anyone tell me where i can get it done here in Mumbai, even anything else i can do to protect the paint.Below i have attached few images of the fuel tank.

Hey guys.. Gave my bike for 3rd service.. Just regular oil change and chain clean and lube.. Asked the manager for details on which oil was used and he showed me some Suzuki oil bottle.. On the back it had some castrol branding.. Thing is it was rated at 20w40.. Asked the manager about it and he was like this is the new oil recommended by Suzuki.
Now the problem is that I'm facing real performance issues as the bike doesn't want to accelerate anymore and even fully opening the throttle makes the revs rise up slowly and the engine feels like it's dying.. Is this due to the oil or is there any other problem with the bike?

No, the bikes dont come prefilled with engine oil from the factory. They are filled up only during Dealer side PDI before delivery to customer.

Thats news to me. Because when i bought my pulsar, i asked the same question to the showroom manager, regarding the oil as well as the coolent. He said that both come prefilled from the factory as the bikes are tested before they are shipped to showrooms.

If they do that, the whole point of breaking-in an engine becomes pointless. They test the pilot unit of a batch of motorcycles, if that unit does fine, the rest of the units in the batch are assumed to be fine. Brake fluid and Coolant, yes those come pre-filled.

If someone from your circle is planning to buy a bike, tell the dealer to hold off their PDI until you guys arrives. You can then watch them load the Dinosaur oil for the first start-up

There's an amazing seat cover provided as an accessory by the showrooms. I got it along with my bike. My friend got his gixxer before I did and he had used it. The good part about it is that it not only provides protection and extra padding, but also comes with classy looking stitches that match with the color of the bike. My friend's bike is red and he has a seat cover that fits like stock but with red stitches. Mine is blue and the stitches on it are in blue.

We both got our bikes in showrooms which are located in diametrically opposite directions in the city of Chennai and both of the showrooms provided us with this accessory. I do not know about other states though. There are a few things provided as accessories by suzuki themselves and the seat cover is one.

I've been told that the pillion riders feel comfortable and cushy on my bike. But you know what? :P after riding the bike yesterday for more than one hour continuously, my bum felt sore and needed frequent movements :P

Here is a sample picture of my bike's seat cover [:

P.S: Whatever seat cover you may use, you know you are single when you get down from the bike after a ride in the rain and find what rain has done to the pillion seat of your bike :P

Thanks for reply. I'm living in Mumbai. Will ask 2-3 dealers regarding the same seat cover. Even I was searching for a seat cover with such a stitching. I own a black Gixxer. Hence will prefer red stitching

The ball racer of your bike's handle may be got defected. Please change that part under warranty. Showroom guys don't give a shit about it and they just adjust the handle after complaining, thus you have to pressurize them constantly for changing that part. You may suffer from shoulder and elbow pain after prolong use of your bike. So take care of that matter now.

In some countries service-manuals are shared without any concern, more liberal laws perhaps. We may to wait for gixxer to enter such countries.

Ideally when they replace the cone-set, handle movement should not be tight. But after some weeks of usage it becomes loose and demands second adjustment.

To avoid second adjustment they(SVC) might over-tighten steering-stem-nut. In your case, steering didn't develop a play it remained tight or they messed it up while replacement.
