My bike is 3000 km old and since the oil was not pricey, just Rs 390/- a bottle (Pretty cheap for full synthetic) I went with the change. • Re: Suzuki Gixxer 155

I got a call from Bharat Suzuki in Pune asking me to come for my 3rd service, and a free bike wash and chain lube.
When I gave my bike to the mechanic he told me that I didn't need to change the oil as I'd only done about 2200kms so far. But the bike was feeling a bit gruff and the engine was getting noticeably warm, so I asked him to change it anyway. I also asked him to make the suspension firmer, and told him about the hard gear changes.

I spoke to the workshop owner who was asking for customers feedback regarding the bike so that he could report back to Suzuki. He told me that the rear disc brake variants would be launched soon.

He also told me that they're putting in a new oil from Idemetsu, who were sponsoring the chain lube camp, and told me that the bikes engine would be quieter after the change.

He was right, and the engine noise has changed, and feels fuller/richer at higher rpms, and a little quieter at lower rpms. The engine still feels a bit gruff, but less than before. But I feel the accelerations come down a bit.

The engine felt a bit warmer than usual when I rode it back from servicing, but the next time I took it out I don't recall feeling any engine heat, so that's an improvement.

Since the last 400-500 kms I've sometimes been feeling a very mild buzzing on the footpegs. It comes and goes and only happens at some rpms and then vanishes. Sometimes I think that it could just be my imagination. I thought the chain was loose + not cleaned/oiled some the last 1200kms and could be the problem. I got it adjusted, and oiled but I still felt the mild buzzes a couple of times since the servicing.

I got the suspension setting changed from 3 to 5. I think handling's improved, but the rides also a lot stiffer, and not as comfortable. I don't think the bike will bottom out any more, even with a pillion on board (not that it did that very often), and I think the difference between handling while going one up and two up won't be as much now.

Gear changes have become much easier, and smoother after the visit to the workshop.

The bikes doing great, and I like almost everything about it. The one thing that I think could be improved is it's performance at lower rpm's. It's not that the engine knocks, or that I feel the need to do frequent gear changes, it's just that after about 4500-5000 rpm the engine and bike seem to come to life, and below that it just seems to putter around. I wish it felt sporty while going slow too.

Yes its Suzuki's own brand. You can google the pic. Black bottle with blue cap. Except the change in sound which has become gruntier, haven't noticed any other changes yet.

For rusting issues get Zorrik 88 costs Rs 50/- for 32 gm bottle. It works wonders.

Service cost really depends on you if you want the svc guys to clean & lube the chain in addition to oil change clearly the cost will be high. Here they charge Rs 200 to clean and lube the chain. My suggestion is that buy a chain cleaner & lube. I'm using Cyclo chain lube and its doing the job pretty well. It costs Rs 150/- a bottle and lasts for 2-3 use.

If you want to use semi synthetic then perhaps Motul 5100 15w50 is the best choice or you can try this new Suzuki oil it's up to you.

I will update after I ride a few hundred kms.

Hello.. . Have you tried motul 5100 15w50? I have tried motul synthetic and it's not that great compared to stock. I'll be trying out shell advance ultra synthetic 10W40 next month after 4th service. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks

Yes maybe, again no one will know if you have changed the oil by yourself -- be it Motul, Shell or Petronas they all will be black at the end the day isn't it.
Never used shell semi synthetic but the review is not good. Go back few pages if you will.

There's a thread here entirely on engine oils you may follow that too.

serivce center engineers refused to do it and i have done it from local workshops which costs me 50 bucks.

There's a slight difference, and that is when your bike heats up (when riding at a stretch) it becomes little jumpy when using mineral oil. Others may not agree but I've felt this. I'm currently using suzuki's own synthetic oil and I am yet to notice that jumpy feel. Thought the engine will run cooler but no the heat is still there, but cools down sooner post ride. Gear shifting almost same as before but upshifts bit firm --- thud-thud trait. Felt a flat acceleration through out. My beloved stretch of highway is now full of death traps - potholes some of which are nearly a foot deep so couldn't properly check the top end. Will update about the mileage as soon as I hit reserve.

i give more preferences to safety. for a reason i've removed the mirrors not for style(mirrors are hits on wall while lift bike to shed). i'll add it back once i practiced to lift safely.
