I'm a little skeptical about giving my bike for first free servicing to them. How does the official warranty work? Do we HAVE to mandatorily give it to official Suzuki SVC for servicing within the warranty period?

As MotoBlizzard pointed out, if you are the person who leaves the bike regularly according to the schedule at SVC for service and picks it up in the evening, there is not much of a difference between a Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki SVC. Few days back, I went to Vijaya Honda, the nearest SVC for getting Bybre master cylinder cup set and caliper seals for my GS (Unicorn 150 and GS share the same ones). I was told "no counter sales, if you bring the bike we will fix it for you". Walked a few metres and got the same (Honda's part, not XYZ) in a two wheeler spare shop and both the parts passed the tests for originality (Hologram and scratching the silvery hologram part).

Yaar, my situation is I'll be using this bike for my official commute to office every day Monday to Saturday - 34 km. Even on Sunday, I'll be using it alone for personal work, etc. Sunday evenings, maybe I'll take my wife out for a ride. The thing is, my wife isn't entirely happy with my decision of getting the Gixxer. She wants me to get a Unicorn, coz of the uncomfortable pillion of Gixxer. She'll only be going out with me on Sunday evenings and we have an Activa too for that. But she's just unhappy and that's making me a little unsure.

Keep the scooter for Sunday rides with wifey and keep the Gixxer for your office commute.

My logic behind it is - Gixxer is the better bike overall (in comparison with Unicorn). Better comfort, better front shock absorber, better rear monoshock suspension, rear disc break, peppy engine, really good pickup, that engine grunt. I really don't feel like giving all that up and get a Unicorn. On top of that, I'm approaching 35 years of age. If I don't get a good sporty bike NOW, I never will. Also, I'll have a kid by this time next year. Hence REALLY REALLY CONFLICTED

No, my friend, age should not be a factor here. Buy the bike you like, the one you have TD'ed and found comfortable. Come on, you have a Xbox controller and a mean PC! why bring in age for bikes .

I've test driven the Gixxer, Unicorn, and the Hornet. My friend has a Hornet and that's out of the picture coz it's too heavy for me and the leaning posture of the bike is making me too uncomfortable. The Gixxer also has leaning posture but it didn't feel as uncomfortable as the Hornet. Unicorn is a good bike. I've always loved it.

Hornet more or less weighs the same as Gixxer, its the Unicorn thats heavier - anyway, go with the one you are fine with.

Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Local mechs can screw a bike too. It is entirely your call to stay with company warranty or lose it day #1 by giving it to local mech.

EXACTLY my point. She doesn't know shit about bikes and their technology. Women can be so dumb and stupid sometimes.

Most of the ladies are not interested in these things, though I have a lady friend in office and we discuss Air Crash Investigations shown in NGC in great detail .

I get it. Need a good mileage bike, and Gixxer giving 45 to 50 is acceptable to me. I'm in love with the Gixxer. Just concerned with getting a proper service. I've read and heard how incompetent mechanics can screw up the carb setting or something and people who were receiving 50+ mileage ended up receiving 43 to 45 now. And the pathetic thing is, we can't do shit about it.

If you love the Gixxer, Gixxer it is. Get the servicing part clear as am not sure of SVCs in Thane. Mostly you should not have problems. Do not give them any opportunity to touch the carb by saying less mileage, poor pickup, etc - they will wash, change the oil&filter, lube the chain and give it to you.

      1) Any recommendations for windshield ? Thanks.
      2) Is it safe to clean chain using Kerosene ? Anything to keep in mind ?

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

      3) Also how to check whether the carburetor tuning is stock or not ?

        2) Everything mentioned in the Owner's manual is safe as these methods are tested/approved by Suzuki. Owner's manual mentions Kerosene for cleaning and SAE-90 gearbox oil for lubing/keeping the o-rings wet. Just keep in mind not to use a hard bristle brush for cleaning as it will damage the o-rings. Also, excessive water pressure while washing away the kerosene can be avoided to prevent water entering past the o-rings to that place where grease is packed in the chain.
        3) Unless you complained something about poor pickup, mileage, etc SVC should have kept the Carb untouched. The stock AFR screw is 2 turns out (might vary slightly between different Gixxers) on a vehicle that has a clean air filter and idle set to 1400 rpm. Don't tamper unless you have a problem.

Thank you so much for answering. The idle RPM is around 1500 after the engine warms up. And 1100-1200 RPM when the engine is cold. Mileage is okay for me I guess. Between 43-45 in city. No issues with that or performance. I bought a useu bike. So just wanted to confirm whether the ex owner screwed it up (Chances are low).

I bought this thing as the bulbs on pilot light and license plate blew up. Using LED head lamps too. Suits my White Gixxer very well.

Alright guys, got the pricing info. Official Suzuki showroom is quoting me a final price of 92k (Blue Gixxer Dual Disc variant) and then there's a local multi-brand dealer (been in business over 15 years and I've previously bought an Activa from him) and he's quoting me the final price of 87.5k. I don't know how there can be so much variance in price. When I spoke with the official Suzuki showroom owner that how the price can be so much less, he said the local dealers don't pay much tax compared to them and that even though they get their bikes from the showroom itself, they delay their payment and pay the showroom after a few months and because the showroom owner has to meet his targets, etc., he allows that. Most of it sounded like bullshit to me.

But one thing is confirmed (which was confirmed by the showroom owner himself) that the local dealer will get the bike from them. The local dealer told me that I can go to official showroom godown myself and pick ANY GIXXER there after doing a proper PDI. He even told me to take the bike from godown to the official showroom to get the accessories fitted, etc., and then take it home. Warranty will be official and I can choose ANY Suzuki showroom for servicing.

Given the pricing, am thinking of going with the local dealer itself. What say? Will finalize the deal in the last week of December (my birthday ) and get the passing done in first week of Jan Also thinking of ordering a disc brake lock for more security. The ones available online so far seem shit quality. Any branded ones available here? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanx a lot guys for all the help. Really excited. CANNOT WAIT!!!

Yeah Too excited. Rode a friend's Gixxer SF for an hour yesterday (no pillion) and again fell in love with the bike. I'll get the naked version but still it's the same bike. Gonna get the blue one, and a good helmet with crazy graphics to match the blue color

Edit: Should I get a skid plate installed? Is it necessary? Want nothing but the best for my bike.

SF and naked GSX150 arent the same. If thats what you think then you are gravely mistaken.

I've test driven Naked version too and loved it. But, apart from the fairing and it's weight, what else is different? I know about the latest version with ABS and FI.

Heres a hint, the SF maybe heavier than the naked on paper but its lighter on the road.

Aww man. Don't tease me like that. I want more. The SF did feel more, how should I say, "planted" to the ground, but am thinking the lesser weight will help me get more mileage? I don't know. Am getting the naked version coz of restricted budget and no fairing will mean better maneuverability in city traffic.

Hey guys, I have been following this thread for a while. I bought a gixxer 3 months back and the experience so far has been awesome, but recently i am hearing a clicking sound from the front sprocket and vibrations in the right foot peg, i could feel it when i am accelerating in 2nd and 2rd gear, i took it to the dealer, they cleaned and lubed the chain, the sound was gone but as soon as i rode for another 50 kms the sound came back, have any of you guys faced this issue, please let me know how to fix it. Thanks.
