Loved your take on the tires.
I have myself seen the stock metzs dancing like crazy in even a small slush whenever i visit my native village. So i have this concern in my mind that if i wish to plan a week long or so getaway in the mountains, where a lot of good tarmac would be invariably accompanied with some offroading, slush or broken roads, what should i do.

My odo is about 3000 so cant totally replace the tires. Hence i am thinking of buying a pair of adventure tires for RC which i can use during the trip and whenever next i wish to wander in the wild.
What would you guys suggest as to my two specific queries.
              1. Which tire set would serve this purpose.
              2. Keeping and changing the spare set: does the quality of the stocked tires at home deteriorates with time and whether changing the tires frequently would affect the overall quality of air packing over the rims.
While My metz rear tire was being removed it was almost as thin as paper and Felt like one of the side walls broke while removing , however later I inspected the rubber was fine.
Hence I will advice against frequent removal of metz. As far as our muddy/slushy conditions go you can manage them on metz. just be smooth with the throttle and dont give too much of it.

Michelins are better in slightly muddy conditions verified it by riding on the muddy side of road today no fish tailing however we cant accelerate crazily on mud.

Thanx. So i guess i need to learn to apply my art of balancing to metzs as well, an art mastered through 13 years of married life.

My Assistant (Pug) and me fiddling around with the air filter... Thought of cleaning it.. Guys after removing the filter...I started the bike with the air filter box opened and my god... The intake noise is one to die for... I would say it sounded better that a 1000cc bike.... The noise is just exactly what I was looking for... It has a deep LOUD growl...just out of the world... Now I am waiting to get my hands on a K&N filter and get rid of the box set-up... Try it out guys... you would go crazy with the noise.Click image for larger version

                    Hi Archan,

Wanted to know if you have replaced your chain spocket as the electronic city showroom guy was saying that my spocket has started to wear and i should be ready to change it at around 10000 mark, as of now I have covered 8000.

Does the chain spocket wear out so quickly ?

I am sure it would. Around 10,000kms you would definitely have to change it. I think under extreme acceleration and track style riding it might not last more than even 7-8k kms.

Hehehe man this is the standard technique of showroom guys.

So from 9k km onwards I was facing a lot of vibrations on the footpegs (i hadn't lubed my chain from past 1.5k km :P )

Yes Pandu the mechanic was saying the same to me,
but having cleaned and lubed my own chain from last 3 years ,
when i inspected the sprocket and chain they looked fine.

The sprocket teeth did not look worn out and the chain had not been adjusted from a long time.

So I told him I will see, and went home thoroughly cleaned / washed the bike and chain with diesel and water.
Later lubed it with sae 90 (gear oil) and adjusted the chain tension.

The acceleration has improved like hell the bike now tries to power wheelie when given throttle.
Since I was new to adjusting RC's chain I made it a bit tighter so had vibrations on the first day. But rode her today, lot more smoother.

So until you sprocket teeth are not worn out (as the case will be for a fast accelerating machine ) or your chain is not completely loose do not change your chain sprocket.

It might have been the previous 390s were more twitchy in power delivery and had their sprockets replaced often however RC is a smooth purring bike when compared to the original D390 hence I don't think there is a need to replace sprocket.

                            Hey Guys,

Got back from my first service, which seems like ages as i was restricting my throttle hand to go all the way. But now it goes like lightning.

The only issue i face is the annoying sound from the rattling of the battery cover. Any DIYs or suggestions to reduce this annoying sound.

Planning to go on a 700 km long drive from Hyderabad to Mumbai. preparing the bike and myself (mentally) for such a long journey. will keep you posted on this.

this is a known issue and ktm has been replacing the rubber mounts. there is also a similar rubber mount which comes off one of the pulsars (can't remember which) that can be fixed on the RC's . I've seen this being done on a few RC's by the ASC.
