    Agree!
Keep standing for the fallen. It's true that I don't know the circumstances, but I'm not sure if you were at the accident scene when it happened. Anyways, none of my business. My reactions for the concerend person are based on the live meets and videos of his on the web.

My point was on a larger scale (the post you quoted). ANYBODY who speeds has his life at risk.
But why endanger other road users? Use the track for speeding!
We're going OT in the thread. If you want to discuss further, shoot me a PM.
    Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

Dog ought have sinned a hell lot in its previous life to meet you in such a way.

It's naive to assume that a helmet and body armour will protect totally against death or serious injury even. If this were the case there would hardly be any fatalities in countries such as UK where the majority of riders are superbly kitted up. But it will certainly reduce the risk of death and more severe injury.

Sometimes it's just the circumstances of the accident and also bad luck in how the body impacts against the ground, other vehicles, etc.

Despite a helmet head injuries can still occur (eg Michael Schumacher, Ayrton Senna) but a helmet greatly reduces the chance of serious injury compared to not wearing one.

Body armour will protect too, particularly against friction injuries to skin when the body slides after coming off and also to an extent broken bones but won't necessarily prevent both.

The impact can also result in internal injuries due to the impact eg ruptured aorta, spleen, fractured pelvis causing pelvic arteries to rupture etc, etc or cause a bleed due to a major bone fracture eg the femur or thigh bone. These can cause catastrophic blood loss and result in rapid death sometimes even if medical aid is available promptly.

The best protection besides using helmets and body armour is to ride safely being constantly alert and aware of the surroundings and road surface.

Riding a bike is inherently a more risky mode of transport particularly in India as the rider is so exposed. In UK my colleagues in the Accident and Emergency department would often refer to bike riders as organ donors simply because of the dreadful fatal bike accident cases they would see when On-Call :-(.

        Safe riding!

          Thanks.
Best thing you could have done in my opinion and past experiences!!
Simple way to deal with any small animal is to keep going. Likely it will get out of the way or if you do hit it the above will happen. I speak from personal experience too having ridden for 30 yrs now. It's no worse than hitting a speed bump at speed.
Swerving and braking don't mix and the chances are if you try to avoid the offending animal you will cause you to come off and be injured. Somebody I know, recently tried to avoid hitting a dog and ended up in hospital after coming off.
Like an uncle of mine always used to say to us "Never stop for a dog"!!!! And I totally subscribe to this 110%. I would rather a dead or injured dog than even a sprained wrist personally.

My 2c on this topic, take it for what it's worth:

First of all, making an example of someone in the vein of "see this is what you should not do or you might end up dead like him" is in poor taste.
I don't know the exact circumstances in which it happened and i suspect neither does anyone here either. So why comment on it?

Secondly, while giving advice like NEVER go fast and such, is okay to give to unskilled, half-wits/imbeciles and the average junta - its worth keeping in mind that there's a skill ladder. To give an example: somebody playing cricket in his colony with his buddies or neighbors may find that he's good at it, but that doesn't qualify him to tell a Ranji or international player how he should play or what to do or what not to do. We are all not equals.

Thirdly, it's my strong belief that the best safety device is good riding skills coupled with the right mind. Good gear can save your ass on a racetrack with high probability, but on the streets with morons, traffic and other obstacles all bets are off and only your head can save you.

Fourthly, if someone is risk averse, they should get a car with seatbelts and airbags. Period.

                Hello Moderator.
Why do you have to be so rude and sarcastic!!!.... Your previous posts here related to Daniel's demise or FATE in your words came across really rude, sarcastic and arrogant. You as a Moderator are really creating a very rude and poor image of the XBHP forum. Anyone who has followed Danny's posts here on XBHP and watched his videos on YouTube would have got a shock to hear he is no more and OBVIOUSLY we bikers will tell ourselves to be more careful on the road. There WAS and IS no need for you to reference that....

Apologies to everyone for dragging this, but I don't have PC access now and Tapatalk fails in sending PMs.

Let me make something very clear. I'm not here to make popular posts. I'm here to maintain decorum.
If you don't like my posts, please neglect them. But if I feel that something wrong is being propagated (not just limited to this issue), I will raise my concern.
The member is welcome to debate on it but unnecessary dragging should be avoided.
Please try and understand - I know that you guys were close to Danny and you're sad for his demise. I'm too. And I respect your feelings. My pointers have been on "Speeding on public roads", which is a universal topic.
You should learn to neglect posts wgich you don't like. But questioning my stance/actions and my being a mod on the forum, please understand that I was chosen to be what I'm because I'm what I'm.
You're free to choose forums as per your liking.

I'm out of this debate now!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                            The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                            THE END

So this happened to me on 12th march 2016.

I was returning back to home from Lavasa after my breakfast run and i was speeding around 60-65kmph () and in a corner a car from nowhere came in my lane like literally infront of me and I had no room to stay in my lane so to avoid head on collision i steered to right lane and lost control of my bike and ended up in gutter. Because of riding gears i was unscathed. Helmet ,boot and riding pant(leather) saved me big time. Sharing this because Please dont compromise on riding gears and don't speed on downhill.

                              Damages:
                              1. Scratches on both sides of the fairing.
                              2. Cracked rear view mirror (Head banged on the mirror)
                              3. Both rear and front brakes not working properly.

PS - No damages to Brake and Gear lever. can you believe it ??Click image for larger version
