I hope I can be one of the few who can get 11k from the Metzelers ... they are expensive , might as well baby them to a sweet bald demise :: Requiescat de Pace ::Originally posted by mehuel View Post

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
The 150 rear is over engineered but then having a 1cm "safety chicken strip" is good. 160 might affect your handling, make it heavy to lean etc, while 140 is just on too small, theres no chicken strip left when you corner around. And that maybe dangerous in case u encounter a bump etc midway.Originally posted by Ajeet Padhi View PostI hope I can be one of the few who can get 11k from the Metzelers ... they are expensive , might as well baby them to a sweet bald demise :: Requiescat de Pace ::

Haha , forget chicken strips ... My tyres are gonna have chicken steaksOriginally posted by ynike99 View PostThe 150 rear is over engineered but then having a 1cm "safety chicken strip" is good. 160 might affect your handling, make it heavy to lean etc, while 140 is just on too small, theres no chicken strip left when you corner around. I'm not much of a rider , but my brother is . So I'm gonna show off the chicken strips made by him till I get comfortable with leaning and counter steering . I look forward to the sessions at BIC I plan on having in the near future .
What do you mean by "over engineered" ?
Thanks and Regards

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Means it is impossible to get rid of the entire chicken strip for rear tyre, without few modifications like higher footpegs, race underbelly. Even then i doubt you can reach the 3rd elephant marking.Front though is perfect.Originally posted by Ajeet Padhi View Post

Yeah , I have heard of the underbelly pan scraping at extreme cornering .Originally posted by ynike99 View PostMeans it is impossible to get rid of the entire chicken strip for rear tyre, without few modifications like higher footpegs, race underbelly. Lol ... The elephant you say ? I doubt if I can even get to the 3rd of the normal markings

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
Hmm we can reach very close to 5th marking on the rear metz (thats me a normal guy talking) , depends on you gaining confidence on the bike and getting the right twisties.Originally posted by ynike99 View PostMeans it is impossible to get rid of the entire chicken strip for rear tyre, without few modifications like higher footpegs, race underbelly. Going on hoggenakkal road near bangalore and on Ooty to satyamangalam I was able to come very close to 5th marking. On one side it was more than other don't remember now since i switched to michelins and am not riding since the rains.
We can easily reach 4th marking on normal twisty road. I hope I am mis reading the 3rd elephant as 3 marking.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
After a very spirited track session, I noticed the front was absolutely shredded, the little elephant has all but disappeared. While the rear is over tyred, not over engineered, it is possible to get to the elephant. After last week's session, the 2 markings at the elephant were rubbed clean off the tire, this was without scraping the underbelly or footpegs, I think if I push it to the third marking though, the underbelly will scrape but not the footpeg, looking at the footage from the guy following me. Should mention, it was easier to scrape the fairing on the RC200 then on the RC390.Originally posted by archanmishra View PostHmm we can reach very close to 5th marking on the rear metz (thats me a normal guy talking) , depends on you gaining confidence on the bike and getting the right twisties.

Additional note: I started the session at 22/25 and ended the session at 27/32, which would mean I would have to run much lower pressures next Sunday

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
I completed 5200 Kms on my bike, saw the manual today it says I need to get the service done at 7500kms, but does there any date when it should be done? For eg. Like in pulsar it's like 2 months or 2000kms whichever comes earlier, but in KTM I didn't see that or may be I missed.

Re: KTM RC 390 Ownership Experience
RC390's rear is not over sized tyre, Level 5 needs just bit of more courage and skill that's all. And that front will hold adequately. RC's (both 200/390) can be leaned over so low, it's pretty amazing. You're examining your tires too much instead of pushing your bike and increasing the contact patch while cornering. Or in other words, your cornering technique needs improvement.Originally posted by Pizzaboi View PostAfter a very spirited track session, I noticed the front was absolutely shredded, the little elephant has all but disappeared. RC390's metzellers share the exact same oval profile of RC200's MRF Revz. and Pic below is the result of one session at those short sweeps at India Gate at normal tire pressure (25/28) (sry if you're not from Delhi then you probably don't have the idea about those turns) Technically it's the level 5 achieved, but that last unfinished portion will require absolute fit conditions, tire pressure and some extra effort! one day

We ended up going through a pair of knee sliders during that session so no, I think our cornering skills are just about right.
The rear is over tyred, there is no way you can use the entire rear tyre of the metz without grinding off your foot pegs.
I haven't even reached the end of the tire and I've already scraped the fairing. Interestingly though the fairing scrapes more on the right than the left.
