RPM rises ifOriginally posted by leech View PostTechnical question : why does the rpm rise up because of heat? New Suzuki technology? Does the bike have a temp gauge?
1. Throttle is given
2. Choke is engaged completely
3. Mixture is lean
Yours is for sure 3rd case , Lean mix's number 1 symptom is 6-700 rpm difference in cold and hot conditions.
Give rev till 8k in neutral and close throttle, you will see revs dropping slowly.
Number 2 symptom is hiccups in some throttle position and in cold condition.
Number 3 symptom is white-grey appearance of spark plug.
Check all 3 and you will know if you are running lean.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
I'm sorry for not phrasing this properly : a gixxer owner had said that when the bikes engine temperature is hot, the rpm gets raised. I was asking if that is a new Suzuki trick to deal with the heat, or perhaps the respective owner has simply correlated high engine temperature with high idle rpm. I do not own a gixxer, but I am interested in learning new stuff about different bikes.Originally posted by RohIIT View PostRPM rises if

Nope, I mentioned 3 factors that lead to elevated rpm . But hot+rpm rise= Lean mix this is for sureOriginally posted by de.das.dude View Posti think you meant rich. else your 2nd and 3rd point would mean completely opposite things
Rich mix doesnt cause this issue , and has good cold starts and well as dark spark plug

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
To add to my earlier post, I never had a cold start issue. Even when it was raining cats and dogs in Chennai. One kick in the morning (early like 4~5 am) and boom she starts.Originally posted by leech View PostI'm sorry for not phrasing this properly : a gixxer owner had said that when the bikes engine temperature is hot, the rpm gets raised.
But this high rpm idle only happens when I rode for a long time as well as in traffic. I can be sure of it since the tone of bike engine itself is high and the rpm pointer is at 3k. If I turn off engine for a bit and start again it comes down to 2.5~2.75, or below that based on how long I have turned it off.
One other point of interest is that, in city drive all week I will get 50kmpl, but on highways just like the one I did last week, at constant 95+km/hr drive (usually 100) I get maybe 32~35.
This mileage goes back to normal when I use it in city again. This could be because of the SEP/economy mode, which might not work when I'm driving in high speed.

Yes I too noticed it , on a hot day engine running continuously approx 50km I stopped at a traffic light bike on neutral & accelerator closed the rpm meter still touching 3K I was for a shock for a while thinking the the accelerator might got stuck but I guess its normal with gixxer .

Can you confirm with a SVC whether its normal?Originally posted by Hitesh100 View PostYes I too noticed it , on a hot day engine running continuously approx 50km I stopped at a traffic light bike on neutral & accelerator closed the rpm meter still touching 3K I was for a shock for a while thinking the the accelerator might got stuck but I guess its normal with gixxer .

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
I had a loose nut in the accelerator cable (near the handlebar, under the rubber jacket) . The bike kept idling at a constant 3k rpm irrespective of if i was holding the clutch fully or on neutral. Got it rectified immediately at the svc. Try moving the handlebar side to side to check if the rpm is affected while on neutral, further try moving the accelerator cable near the handle bar while on neutral again and see if the rpm increases or decreases. Jammed accelerator cables can be dangerous!Originally posted by Hitesh100 View PostYes I too noticed it , on a hot day engine running continuously approx 50km I stopped at a traffic light bike on neutral & accelerator closed the rpm meter still touching 3K I was for a shock for a while thinking the the accelerator might got stuck but I guess its normal with gixxer .
Idling for my gixxer:
Cold engine:1.2K rpm
After 30mins of riding: 1.5K-1.75K rpmLast edited by Tloren; 03-25-2016, 03:40 AM.

Re: Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread
Tell me if you people have also faced the same thing.
When I use Speed, the bike feels smoother and vibrates less than when regular petrol is used. Also it draws more power from Speed I have observed.
Maybe my fuel station doesn't provide 91 octane regular petrol? What do you think?
