It started blinking @ 45km this time .. atleast better than last two times.. But why is it varying this much every time.. is there any problem with the fuel tank meter..? My riding style is almost same every time..keeping 60 -65 kmph on straight roads for around 17km and through high city traffic for around 3kms. (up and down from home to office). So that too may not be a problem.. :O :O

may be ..I think we can check the milage properly only after 3rd service ( i heard from many people and even the SC guys told me as such)

@MSN1

What is bottle test method... from reserve we have to use exactly 1 ltr and check how long it runs before next reserve?

Even a leaning to either will make this difference; I think. Your bike is in perfect condition and so forget this blinking problem and fill fuel at least when it reaches reserve level. If possible try to keep the tank full as it prevents evaporation loss to a certain extent.
Third, first or any servicing makes no difference in mileage unless a moronic mechanic adjusts the AFR. So never tell them that the mileage is poor even if it is so. And what that many people and SC guys said about it is not correct.

• Guys I asked the Suzuki FB page about the different modes in the bike and here is what they replied

"Dear Mr.Harish, Thanks for posting the query. When the mode is changed to ECO a more fuel economical ignition map is selected for better efficiency, and in the Power mode it is unrestricted. When the display does not show any mode, by default it picks the last mode a rider was using."

Power mode is the native mode of the bike! So basically this is a mad bike which they restrict in the economy mode. Need I say more of how awesome this beauty is?

Ride safe and ride long guys!

Tank full method : costlier method fill the tank to the brim (full just above to flow out) drive for 60 or 70 kms then fill petrol again and see how muck it holds
example : after 70 kms if you fill petrol again and after filling 1 ltr petrol if the petrol level comes to brim (same previous just above to flow out level) then you can trust the bike gives 70 kms per ltr mileage

the bottle method: all local mechanics and on automobile spare shop too you can get petrol testing bottle (it looks like the saline bottle ) with a hose and bottle, hope you know rest of the story

if the bottle is filled with 100 ml petrol and it gets empty after 5 kms then the mileage is 50 per ltr (1000 ml)

Any information from face book is unquestionably authoritative and it is an extreme luck that he didn’t claim that that modes in our bike is same as the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (S-DMS) seen in some of their higher cc bikes such as GSX1300R with an additional shift light. He forgot to mention that our bike performs as a hypersonic Mach 6 plane in Power mode. If somebody still doubts, please ask a mechanic in the SC or contact Suzuki.

Completed three years yesterday with 28'175 kms on odometer. In this period replaced brake pads and shoes, piston and cup set, sparkplug cap, spring pad in disc brake, chain cover nuts, nuts on master cylinder etc. Headlight cowl, brake and clutch levers, handle bar and right indicator was replaced due to accidents. More than that, the headlight cowling bracket was replaced under warranty.
Used Armor All shampoo and wax to polish my bike. Seems to be a good product.

The most dreaded, most infamous ‘rusting’ fuel tank after three years. The rusting is not as deep as most of us feared. Hope the tank will last another 10 or more years.

Chain and rear sprocket. Never cleaned but regularly lubricated with EP140 oil and lithium based grease. If it covers another 12,000 kms, it reaches the 40,000 kms record of my Fiero but it is almost impossible; I know. Planning to lube the next chain and sprockets with used engine oil and ordinary black coloured grease as done earlier on my Fiero’s chain.

Front and rear tyres. Expect some more thousand kms from it.

Paint on the engine is still in a good shape; I hope.
FE is still around 60 kml. Fills Castrol 15W-40 SS oil even it is reliably known that all the Castrol oils in our market and even those coming out of their production line are fakes.

I have been here for more than 2 years and 2 months now and learned a lot about bikes from each and every biker sharing his knowledge here and in other forums.
Now, as I have nothing new to share, I think keeping quiet for a while is good. All the best.

Can any one tell me what is the optimum pressure to be maintained in rear tyre and front tyre.??

and what should be the rpm when u start the engine?? what should be the rpm when the engine is started and u r not accelarating..shoud it be 1 or 1.5rpm??

The idle RPM:When the engine is cold: 900-1000, when the engine is warm: 1300-1500. (Info posted by vishnukmd(Thank You) on page 1294).

• Friends,

I've been on a 800kms road trip on my GS last weekend. I had a friend (on a Pulsar 150) for company. It gave me a mileage of 47-48 kmpl average. We maintained speeds of 80-85 kmph on most of the stretches. In fact, I had had to traverse on inexistent roads for around 3kms, roads which even 4x4s would dare not to go. We took a good 40 mins to cover the 3kms stretch, all on 1st gear with one foot always on the ground for balancing.

It's 44,000kms on the odometer now!

Yesterday, in the morning, the digital console acted up. All it would do was fill all the readings on the display. Engaging the self-start would reset the display making it completely blank. Only when I kick-start the bike would it go into normal position. I realised something was wrong the battery and took it for a top-up in the evening. I was told the battery went kaput and it had to be replaced. He said it'd last for some more days but electric start cannot be used for cold starts.

He quoted 1750 rupees for a 9Ah Exide one. Is it a good price? How much would a battery cost me in Hyderabad?

Greasing at lever side after spraying W40 or like in cable housing, if heavy rains check regularly as water tends to wash out lubs and make it rough & hard.free play about 2-3mm is must not for for clutch snapping but clutch plate seating firmly.
In bike like GS you can drive clutchless cautiously , avoid traffic roads in such situation , local mechanics have clutch cables with adjustable bobbin(stopper with screw to tighten) which can fit any mechanisms for all bikes in case of emergency , even you can keep it as spare but again its quiet rare to get clutch cable broken.

• How many months/ years @ 44,000 kms , your battery has lasted quiet a long.price varies depending on brand / make / type / geography , go for good quality matching the older one,Rs 1750 seems good price if it will last for another 44K kms or so.

It's almost 4yrs. My GS was from the first batch (Feb 2009); it's a 12V 9Ah Exide battery. Heard that Amaron is good but expensive. What about maintenance-free ones? Are they good?

I not only postponed adjusting the free play of the clutch cable but also ignored a “rippp” sound 2-3 days ago at the clutch lever. The inner metallic wire was “dry, brittle and salty.” JAV didn’t have a spare so I couldn’t change it with a local mech. Please enlighten me on these:

1. 40xx is too low for the clutch cable to snap – Should I lubricate the cable? If yes with what and frequency?
2. Is the free play actually to prevent snapping of the cable ?
3. If am stranded again, Is there any way I can start and drive instead of pushing ? I know one can shift gears without clutch.
Happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I too ignored the sound of internal strands snapping away for 1-2 weeks. In fact, I mistook it as an incorrectly placed lever!

When I pushed the bike to a nearby Suzuki SC they didn't have clutch cables in stock. In fact, I'm surprised to find an aftermarket one nearby which has "Model: GS150R" written on it. It costed me 140 bucks (plus 30 for installation).
