i know their is a transparent tube like thing on the left side of the engine, i guessed it is for checking the engine oil level ... am i rite??
my GS's tube is fully empty(meaning: transparent), so what does it mean?
i opened the cap on the engine meant for putting oil , it was empty too!! (i did this after riding for like 5 kms)
can anyone post a pic of the gas level, it would be very very helpful thank u.
and how to check the suspension gas level ??(the SVC guy said it not req)

@ falcon,
My driving route is in and around kr puram, whitefield, ramamoorthy nagar and indranagar may be its good because most of my driving time is non peak hrs, and with shell petrol can reach 60 or + kmpl, and with normal petrol its around 55.
The above is on solo ride.
With pillon rider am getting 52 with shell and 48 with normal
And the above works only with either full tank or above 10 ltr petrol.
* with pillonrider the carrying weight is around 160 kgs
Sometimes my riding is like 10 kms per day those times am getting somewhere 8 or 9 kmpl less mileage.
I still use the R to R method
No special tuning or mods done last tuned by SVC and the golden screw is at 2.5 and idle is between(cold 1000 to 1100) hot is 1400 to 1500.
Air check 10 days once,
Haven't crossed 70 kmpl
And its heart is filled with either gulf or motul.
As vishnu said I used to shift to top gear earlier @ 30+ kmph on free roads am at 6th gear.Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

May be it is made up of corrission free fiber or strong plastic or a non rustable metal or metal with some coating to avoid rusting.Originally posted by vishnukmd View PostThe next batch GS is coming with a new fuel tank which is more rust resistant. It is heard that the existing tank cannot be replaced with it.

Metallic with coating and with different mouth shape to prevent water going in to the tank.Originally posted by MSN1 View PostMay be it is made up of corrission free fiber or strong plastic or a non rustable metal or metal with some coating to avoid rusting.

are you by any chance mean the transparent glass on the right side?? cos there's no transparent tube on left side..
my GS's tube is fully empty(meaning: transparent), so what does it mean?
did you put bike on main stand and check? if you put bike on side stand and see; the glass will be empty as all the oil flows to left side of engine.

weather you ride or not you will see lubricated clutch housing & kick rachet mechanism (if visible) inside and not all oil filled engine. all that oil present in the engine should ideally attain max. full level marked beside transparent glass on engine casing.

don't bother about gas level in rear shocks. they are partially filled with liquid and gas. there is a small nipple for recharging that system if shocks become weak.yaa even i want to know...whats the progress on his side?? hey some pages back he was talking about his unwell parents, anyone knows???Originally posted by MSN1 View Post@ abdul.

Try to maintain a constant speed and do not use the clutch and brake unless it is absolutely necessary. This will increase the mileage.
Considering your driving habits, 52 kml is not a poor mileage.

I know it and I am not complainingOriginally posted by vishnukmd View Post52 kml is not a poor mileage.
During my daily commutes,I have to travel so fast from Point A to Point B in a busy megacity full of downtowm slum ridden zones, that I would seldom get the opportunity of not clutching or braking. There are freak cyclists and rickshaws and autorickshaws along with Jaywalkers getting on your nerves in the busy hour everywhere. Also there are usual folks who have no work at all and stand and chat in the middle of streets for no reason.
Hence, honking horn, accelerating hard, sudden braking and even clutchless gearshifts makes my bike one hard working work horse on a daily basis

Clutch is to get in to and out of gear. There is no need of it in between the gears. If you practice to shift up or down at the correct rpm, you can do it smoothly, even without the normal ‘click’ sound from the gear box of our GS.Originally posted by MACH50 View Posteven clutchless gearshifts makes my bike one hard working work horse on a daily basis
If done correctly, it will not damage anything in the gear box. Further, it will give you a sure increase in mileage.
By the way, how many of us do disengage the clutch fully before shifting the gear, unless it is to start the ride? These clutchless shifting is done unintentionally with a mere blip of the clutch lever and hence we do not bother about it.
The clutchless gear shifting is smoother, easier and safe if done properly and won’t do any harm to the transmission. But be sure that you are experienced to it.
I have a friend who is a real bike enthusiast, now working in an MNC in my neighbourhood in a very responsible position of gatekeeper and in-charge of the parked vehicles also has the same opinion. He is doing it in the same style for the last few years, without any harm to his bike.Last edited by vishnukmd; 02-12-2011, 08:27 PM.

This mileage may be correct, Madhu. But to ensure it, please get your bike’s odometer checked in the service center or by a good mechanic.
