  • Unusually low mileage

    Hi guys,
Now-a-days (for the past 150 kms or so) I getting unusually low mileage of 30-35 kmpl. Before that, it used to be perfectly normal. In fact couple of weeks back I even got 70 kmpl (city + reserve-to-reserve + 50-60 kmph). Don't know why! Few of the reasons to suspect are
    1. I usually (in fact, I had to) park my bike whole day in sunlight. In Hyderabad, it is 44+ degrees centigrade.
    2. Air pressure in the front tire is decreasing fast. When I went to a Shell bunk the day before it was 21 psi. Is there any puncture kinda thing???
    3. Some people on this thread said that petrol evaporates in the fuel tank.

But, are these the only reasons? I'm getting <50% of normal mileage. Could someone help me. I could've gone to service center BUT I'm quite busy with my final exams. I'll only be free after 16th of this month.

      • Maybe the fuel is evaporating in the sunlight!

my bike is still in the same condition.. one of my friend suggested me a good local mechanic here in castrol bike zone.. went yesterday to that place, even that guy was unavailable. his assistant rode the bike for few mins and told some problem related to tappet(couldnt understand him fully as I am a newbie in this field). he said he will need to confirm with the main mechanic, which cant be done before saturday as I am busy.
now the only thing which comes to my mind is - if a 15-16 yr old asst mechanic can feel that my bike is not runnin smooth and came up with some solution too.. why couldnt those SC guys, who are quiet experienced, find any problem at all?

Just Registered on X-Bhp. I booked a Metallic Grey GS150R a couple of days ago. So, i guess i am Owner No. 14. Will be taking the Delivery on Tuesday. Can't wait to lay my hands on it.

I sold off my reliable HH Ambi 135 as i wanted to upgrade my Bike. Had 2 Choices, Unicorn and GS150R. GS150R was actually not even in the Picture before, as Suzuki Bikes were not that popular as the HH, Honda, Babjaj, etc.

                Thanks,
                Abhishek.
Hey congratts man.....welcome to the club and indeed you are the 14th owner.....thank god somebody cared to participate in the GSR Roll call.......you know something even I had HH Ambi 133 the old one without the hood......ad I drove it for full 5 years before dropping it for GS......for me as well GS was not even in the picture, I was almost absolute sure to go for CBZX, but before the day of purchase read few reviews and a couple of threads on xbhp, and when I took the test drive I was impressed.......researched more and finally on my second test drive I finally decided to go for this and I am totally satisfied with the purchase.......just reaching 2nd service.......I have not faced any rusting issue, neither any oil issue, Breaking as I mentioned is not top class but with disc applied with drum its pretty much spot on. headlight is something I will get it changed as mentioned somewhere in older posts its not that bright .....will get a Philips one which is better (confirmed by one of our GS glub member)......anyway get the bike and enjoy.....it sails, glides at 85-90 ...... you will enjoy riding it :-)

And dont forget snaps when you get the delivery... :-)

Hey Thanks Sam. For sure, i will post the snaps once i get hold of it.
I had always dreamt of owning a Honda or a Suzuki Bike. Finally, it's coming true.
Looks wise, only one thing i did not like in the Bike is the Tiny Suzuki 'S' Logo on the Majestic Fuel Tank. It does not do justice to this Macho Bike. They should have had something like the new Steel Unicorn Logo. That looks Cool.

My bike run so far 450 KM only ,i m not able to find the mileage using reserve to reserve,Bcos after reserve i put 1.20ltr after some km it came again to reserve, then if again i put 1.20ltr it takes more than 70km for reserve again,
the mechanic told me when u fill for fuel it will go other side of tank, even in my pulsar(old) happen like this,so instead of reserve to reserve, best way to check mileage is tank full , ride for say 100 or 150 km(3 to 4 days of city ride) then fill again.U can get almost accurate mileage.
Yes sun will evoporates the fuel, if park long time in sun with fuel cork in on condition,My bike tire pressure also reduced to 15psi in front and 25psi in back
I m getting vibration or resonance sound at speed 45 to 50kmph, which i noticed later after some km running from delivery period, but that disappeared after that speed(it comes in my previous old bike CBZ at speed 60kmph)

Other problem i faced is if the fuel knob at ON position, some kids playing with the knob if they turned opposite direction instead OFF position it slips to reserve(bcos of it is plastic) in all other bike(even suzuki zeus) it is in metal and won't move wrong side

I Am confused with fuel guage, how much fuel for one bar(in manual it mention that if last bar blinks , then u have approx 1.5ltr)
Finally as every one told I luv this bike .......]

                          Hey,
Keep the fuel off when you park your bike for long time after a run. Petrol evaporates even due to the heat from the engine.

                          • Tips on Filling your Vehicles...
This is a Message received from a friend:

So here are some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every liter.

ONLY BUY OR FILL UP YOUR CAR OR BIKKIE IN THE
EARLY MORNING WHEN THE GROUND TEMPERATURE IS STILL COLD. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground, the denser the fuel, when it gets warmer petrol expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening.... your liter is not exactly a liter.

In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the petrol, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products play an important role. A
1degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps..

WHEN YOU'RE FILLING UP, DO NOT SQUEEZE THE
TRIGGER OF THE NOZZLE TO A FAST MODE. If you look, you will see that the trigger has three (3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode, you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created, while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some of the liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor.
Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TIPS IS TO FILL UP
WHEN YOUR TANK IS HALF FULL. The reason for this is, the more fuel you have in your tank, the less air occupying its empty space. Petrol evaporates faster than you can imagine. Petroleum storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the petrol and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation.

Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated, so that every liter is actually the exact amount.

ANOTHER REMINDER, IF THERE IS A FUEL TRUCK
PUMPING INTO THE STORAGE TANKS, WHEN YOU STOP TO BUY, DO NOT FILL UP - most likely the petrol/diesel is being stirred up as the fuel is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom.

Hope, this will help you get the maximum value for your
                            Money.

Well frankly when I drove the bike for the first time even I was like not impressed with the Disc, but the test/demo bike had the brakes perfect so as I said I took the gamble, but for me brakes were drastically improved after the first service, and I not bother to ask what did they do.......

Take it to some other SC and then try. Break Oil isnt changes every service, If u seriously feel the quality is deteriorating day by day yes you can ask for replacement as the bike is under warrenty (but you gotta fight for it with ofcourse proof)

                              • i think suzuki was in a lot of hurry to launch the gsr

otherwise it would have probably really challenged the legacy that unicorn has set

                                @ sam
bro i feel you are lucky to get a good piece

also the sc guys employed by suzuki are lame like a mule and much worse than local gully mechs .......... atleast as far as i know
or they are reluctant to change anything.........or are too lazy

braking is one of the most important factors n basic one which is needed to be good for safety
but still as a sam says it improves
it must be so but they could have come up with something better
n they should if they want to win over uni otherwise its a distant dream

and someone over here said that S on the majestic fuel tank is injustic
lol brother it is their logo,,,,, even on the mighty busa..... there is the same S
