  • @Rajesh I rode just 70 kms after the bore piston change......it was slightly better.but iam not satisfied with the new bore and piston either....because after you clock some kms on odo it is as usual earlier but on less note....so will examine for next 500 kms to come a conclusion...t

    They charged rs 100 for the bore and piston as package charges...

    Please furnish your experience with us with the new bore and piston...hope yous on positive side.

      • Got my bike. Things changed.

        1. Head - cylinder kit (bore piston)
        2. timing chain
        3. Valves
        4. RR unit (for light brightness issues)
        5. Gaskets

        They charged 46 rupees for gaskets alone. they didnt change oil as they worked on head alone. Some of the spares were not available it seems and they procured from smk suzuki and fitted.

        Bike is smooth but my gear shits are tight may be cause of 3k old petronas. planning to go to shell vsx as i need to run in again may today evening.

        Root cause - Manufacturing defect and/or Harsh driving. (quite possible for harsh riding )
        Rides: HH SPl (2000-2005) | TVS Vic GLX (2005-2010) | S GS150 R (Current)

        Gears: Scoyco JK -17 | Cramster Twister | Cramster Bionics | Vega Boolean

          Hey Buddy, where are you from ?
          I'll be visiting my SC in b'lore in a few days, i'd like to tell them the no. of people from different cities who have got replacement for the bore and piston,
          So far i think its arun and rajesh from chennai,
          2 people from kerala (dont remember their names)
          and 1 from mumbai (i'm not sure about this person, i remember reading some post, couldn't find it when i tried searching though)

              Thanks madhu I already got it from aravindraj who goes there for service...But Going here or pondy both impossible as i have some commitments here..Only sending bike with SuB dealer Mechanic to Pondy as instructed by Service engg pondy...But not now ..later part of this month

              • Engine Rough

                Hi,

                some times my bike become rough ( mileage 45 - 50Km/lr)
                and sometime become smooth (Mileage 60-62 km/Lr)

                what is the problem?

                Model - 2009 June
                Date of Purchse - 09/09/09
                KM covered - 8800+ km
                Service - 6 Nos. as per manual

                    What's this new Big Fuss about the Engine Roughness and Bore Piston Replacement ? As if the Rusting Issue was not enough.

                    I too own a 2009 GS purchased in May 2009 and have completed around 7500 Kms.
                    I am getting concerned about this Engine Roughness Issue. Arre all the 2009 GS Owners experiencing this Issue ? Anybody here who is not experiencing the Issue.

                    The Problem is that i am unable to judge if my Bike also experiences the Issue or no.

                    What exactly do you Guys mean when you say the Engine gets Rough and you get some weird sounds from the Engine ? Do you feel Vibrations ? What kind of Noise comes from the Engine ? Is the Noise audible even if you wear a Helmet ?
                    I always ride with a Helmet on. My GS also sounds like a Mixer or Grinder while riding but i guess that's how it is for everyone, right?
                    Also, once you increase your Speed and Rev more, the sound of the Bike is bound to Increase. I also feel some Vibrations on Footpegs and a buzzing kind of sound when i rev more harder.
                    At what speeds do you feel this Roughness ? If you Guys can please be a bit more Specific?

                    Also, i am still experiencing the Alternating Mileage Issue that i had posted long back. Once i get Mileage of 35-37 and in the immediate next filling i would get a mileage of around 55. Then again 35 and then 55. So on and so forth. Is this in any way related to this Bore Piston Issue ?
                    And also, my 2nd Tank has started to Rust again near the Mouth Part.

                    Guys, please clarify my Doubts.

                        Let's get together as a group and request suzuki to arrange a service camp cum customer interaction camp to clear the cloud on this.

                          (I)1)Normal sound of gs is like characteristic,rythamatic thumping sound.

                          2)Sand grinding sound is the sound which we will be getting when we expect a turn/slow down/(steady speed) and accordingly lower the throttle and clutch is played and gears are downed to 2 nd or 1 st.

                          3)once you increase your Speed and Rev more the bike also emits sound proportionately.

                          The above are normal and acceptable....

                          (II)1)Roughness as i experianced:the bike exhibits the above 1) for the initial few kms after that it deviates and egine produces sound similar to boulders or stones not sand in grinder.but the grinder seldom grinds the stones to sand.i can here these nieses inspite of wearing helmet.Low intensity vibes can be sensed at the fot rest.(we cannot get these when the bike is on smoother side)

                          2)The bikes exhibits split personality......sometimes it is smooth with (I)1) personality through out the ride.....but most of the times it endorses (II)1)

                          when i mailed my concerns to suzuki,i never mentioned to them about replacing bore and piston as solution from my side(even though i have read about the same from this site)....i never thought that they will replace.......to my suprise when i went to my 4 rth service svc voluntarily did the replacement.....this is a indication that is there is some defect from suzuki side itself......


                          @MSN1 i agree with you. we must stand firm on this issue and form a pressure group makeing suzuki to come with a redressal mechanism voluntarily,but respond if only we complain.
                          I request you to ride a fellow Chennai gs pian bike having the above said problems so that you can make it about the roughness and let us know if your bike is smooth one.

                            In chennai only 4 sales & service stations available(correct if am wrong). So we have no options dude.

                            Is old washermenpet comes near your place? There is a service station also there.

                            PS: Increasing of suzuki motorcycles products day by day & only 4 service center available, customers might wait for 2 days after he/she left the vehicle for service & taking delivery. Even my dad went to ABT nandanam for his access scoot for 2nd service on monday,the service ppl gave only after 3 days,coz of "lot of bikes for service sir' they said. It was happened 3 weeks ago.

                            • My Bike tastes its own blood

                              Today my bike kissed the tarmac for the first time..........
                              I was traveling at 55-60kmph when I ran over a stretch of sand and gravel left on road by Govt.Contractors,in order to avoid contact with some jaywalkers who suddenly jumped on the road.The rear wheel gave away throwing me off the bike and the crash guard taking all impact.

                              I lost the horns after the crash and one of the RVMs.Minor paint wash off on the fairing.Nothing else went wrong.(Strong like a mountain is this bike !!!!!)
                              I also made it out totally unhurt (God bless us !!!!)

                              However,I am disheartened at the civic responsibilities and sense of my fellow countrymen.They know only to blame others and never rectify their own mistakes Sad and upsetting at the best..........

                              I am planning to go for new horns and RVMs tomorrow.

                              • @kasperrmat am from bangalore ill try falcon's bike instead of going to chennai to try our fellow GS xbhpians bike.
                                kasperrmat till now my bike is good did faced the roughness issue while I used oils such as agip, castrol power 1, castrol 4T and SVC oil.

                                Now I crossed 1200 kms with motul so far its going good

                                Those who got piston replacement please tell me did u used synthetic oil before the issue occurred, or is their any specific change done on your bike before it happens

                                I am asking this to know if their is any similarity or pattern their for the issue to occur ? As we have many senior most members still using GSR without any issues and they are still using SVC oil only

                                During my last service met a GS owner at dealer place he bought it during april or june 09 didn't faced any problem he just gives service on time and uses svc oil said his mileage is 50 (average) and his bike is smooth and good his ODO reads 23000kms after I talked much about the issues he simply smiled at me and said he did faced similar roughness and few more. Issues at the starting he sensed that I didn't believed him he is close to the age of 50 just gave his bike keys and asked me to try, I did and its ubber cool and smooth as mine.
