New biker help
I'm thinking of buying a GS150R, and read the first 180 pages of this thread
So, the current GS150R is a 2nd generation bike or is it still the old one.
What all problems have been eliminated, out of the main 3, headlight, brakes, 3.5k resonance?
Also what about the rusting issues? Is it still present?
The very first bike owners must have completed the 2 years, so guys, has there been any performance or mileage drop in these 2 years? Are you still getting 50-60 kmpl? Has the bike been maintenance free other than the recommended services?
Are the parts now readily available?
Also, I'm not a very tall guy, only 5'6" and I'm fat. So, will it be difficult for me to handle the bike?

Oh accha !!!! so this is just a simple case............thank God !!!Originally posted by vishnukmd View Post
The spark plug adapter/spark plug cap of our GS.
Thanks Vishnu.........the term adapter was way too technical for me,got confused with so many other things
, maybe even SVC guys know it only by the name of spark plug cap too
Well there maybe problems then, at 5'6" it would be okay but if you are really fat then control in city can be an issue. It is because GSR has a very wide seat and fat thighs won't help it, to be practical.Originally posted by apparle View Post

Other than that GS150R is one of the best 150cc bikes in India money can buy, if not better.Being an owner all I can say it poses nothing serious for normal bikers.
But if you are looking for specifics:
1.Headlight is an issue on 2010 model, don't know about 2011 model. But the charging system can support something more powerful like 55W bulb.
2.Brakes are very balanced on the GS150R.Its not an issue, but riders have to make a habit of perfect braking. If someone is used to brakes of Pulsar then the Brakes would seem to have lack of bite. But trust me, it is next to ABS if used correctly.
3.3.5K Resonance is null in comparison too all other bikes.I have never detected a 3.5K resonance in particular on my bike but I feel the torque developing fast from that point and needs revving up.
4.Mileage totally depends on the way you ride, my bike is capable of turning out mileage from 40kmpl to 60 kmpl depending on the speed, street and type of riding.
5.Yeah its a very short on maintenance bike. The bike can endure a lot.Now that's my view, less fortunate ones may have engine issues and other issues but that too is very rare.
6.From what I understand of this thread,in case of discrepancy, company response is far ahead of many other manufacturers. If you have a main dealership in your city, you will find parts readily available.
But please consider a comfortable ride for your hard earned money.I would suggest you bikes having narrower seats, eg. Yamaha SZ-R at that budget.Last edited by MACH50; 04-04-2011, 08:48 PM.Hell's Angel

i just bought an 2011 model made in feb..this is what i have to say..Also, I'm not a very tall guy, only 5'6" and I'm fat. So, will it be difficult for me to handle the bike?
bro i am 5'7" and i feel that the bike is good to handle. yes its heavy but its still not giving me any trouble on handling in traffic so far. if u are an experienced driver then no issues at all. about the other issues well the head light is good but not that great. brakes are pretty decent. and i have no idea what this 3.5 k resonance is. i dont have any trouble driving at that RPM. parts wise i cant really say because the suzuki guys are focussing more on slingshot now and gs is being slightly neglected so the future looks a little bleak. but i have heard that the suzuki website complaints forum is decent and if the service centre guys dont respond they do. milege will post after the first service because it can be erratic till then..other questions you can ask..Last edited by KIRTIMANNAN; 04-03-2011, 11:29 PM.KM

Suzuki has modified the rr unit, exhaust, stator coil, fuel tank and some other engine parts of the GS.Originally posted by apparle View PostI'm thinking of buying a GS150R, and read the first 180 pages of this thread
The present head light is slightly better than the 2009 batch because they have changed the rr and stator coil but it cannot be said that it is excellent as it is not connected to the battery and the reflector is not modified. Some of us have changed the bulb to osram NB or so. But it is not advisable to connect the bulb to the battery.
Almost 70-75% of braking is done by the front brake and the back brake is used to keep the stability and control of the bike. The poor braking problem occurs when someone tries to use the back brake alone.
Rusting is common in almost all bikes in the coastal area. I myself have uploaded a few pictures of a 1 year 7 month old bike in page 1046 and 1047 of this thread. No bike, including Ninja, is an exception to this problem.
The mileage depends our driving habit, the condition of the bike etc., etc. The last noted mileage of my bike was 65.39 kml. After that I have travelled 1393 kms, using 21 litres of fuel.
My personal advice is to buy GS. It is trustworthy.

Slingshot is modified Zeus. But Suzuki is not interested in selling their products. The best example is GS itself. The main problem is the lack of authorised service centres. The next is advertisement. See, Figo, Polo, Micra, Beat, Spark; all are failures in the market, even though some of them are excellent cars.Originally posted by KIRTIMANNAN View Posti just bought an 2011 model made in feb..this is what i have to say..

Now, how is your bike? Remember to not allow anyone including the mechanic to make any alteration or modification on it in any situation.Last edited by vishnukmd; 04-04-2011, 01:40 AM.

I don't think I'm that fatWell there maybe problems then, at 5'6" it would be okay but if you are really fat then control in city can be an issue. It is because GSR has a very wide seat and fat thighs won't help it, to be practical.
but who am I to judge.
On the short test ride, GS felt comfortable enough, didn't try it much in the heavy traffic. I'll go get another test drive.
And, Pune seems to be big enough for easy availability of the spare parts
Being a new rider handling, brakes and weight can be an issue, but I suppose I'll get used to it with time
So, I think the headlight is the only issue left (I don't want to modify anything), acceptable enough.
BTW, xBhp is the best forum I've ever found, I mean where can I get 4 replies in less than 6-7 hours

Welcome to GSpian community....
Mr. vulcan, calm down and use the multi quote else your posts will be considered as spam by moderators.
If you read first 500 pages, you should have got answers to almost all questions you raised
. On getting the bike read your owner's manual thoroughly, this alone will give you better idea about break-in running procedures.
During break-in period try not to stress the engine, ride smoothly, keeping an eye on engine rpm. Do your first service early (around 500 Km). Thats all needed for now. I know you will be very anxious, once you get the bike you will know what to do.
Some GS had niggles, me like vishnukmd has a 2009 model and havent faced a single issue in 16 months of ownership .
Note: Please avoid using sms lingo and follow forum etiquettes.Well-trained reflexes are quicker than luck.........

Hi,
I am planning to give my bike for servicing.
The most important thing that i need is tuning to be done with the gas analyser (my bike's CO levels are bit high and i'm getting less mileage, around 47-48)
Any idea how tuning is done with that ? Like do they connect the exhaust to that pipe and then what do they adjust ?? is it same idle screw fuel screw only ?? tell the procedure in brief so i know that they arent just doing the regular tuning be raising idle to 3000 rpm and tuning fuel screw.
I'm asking because i'm giving the bike to suzuki service centre only because i want to ask about the bent disc too.
