Request test ride on yamaha website and do tell your experience with the dealership to yamaha they will soon take action.

I've visited 3 showrooms in Chennai and contacted 2 more....all of them were more than willing to offer test rides even though it was obvious that they didn't think of me as a potential customer . But yes, they were not trying to actively sell it to me. Still, it was not a bad customer experience.

In Bangalore, the dealers are also not keen on selling it. Went to Orion Motors and their response was very cold. They denied a test ride initially and treated me like someone who came to ask for hafta. Next was Vinayak Yamaha, Domlur. Their response was better, however they did not have a test ride bike. The only R3 there was, had a booking already. The sales guy told me he will contact once the bike is there for test ride. There was no response, so I again called them after 2-3 weeks, but they seemed un-interested.

Not that I want a test ride to buy the R3, but now I am re-thinking. If this is the response you get as a prospective customer, what kind of after sales support can we expect?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I couldn't find the test ride request option for R3. I have sent a feedback anyway.

That is a fair experience. It will be similar in Honda too, they never try to push a CBR.

Try Pacer Yamaha, Hebbal or Bangalore Wheels, Rajajinagar or Pacer Yamaha, Banaswadi. They'll provide you test ride.

I visited Sri Motors and they seemed professional enough. The display vehicle is just for display. They didn't even allow us to sit on it. They have a blue&silver one for test rides. Regarding the waiting period, it seems that it's not so long. I had earlier visited the Yamaha showroom in Guduvanchery and both these showrooms have 1 bike of each color in stock. If you want it, it is available for immediate purchase and delivery.
Thanks you for providing me the info. Since iam out of town i inquired through mail. Even they said the same ...in 2 weeks i can get the bike. But glad to know there is TD available for the bike. I just have back in town...looking forward to it.

But in chennai i felt the showroom guys are much better. I just sent a mail and gave them my whatsapp number. they immediately replied me in mail and send me the quote to my whatsapp.

They are better in chennai it seems.

Have heard good reviews about both Pacer and Bangalore Wheels, but both are far for me. Koramangala and Domlur are nearest , but now I guess will have to go that extra mile to get a better response.
I bought Ray from Orion motors and had a good experience, but for the R3 it was kind of hostile. My guess is it has something to do with their sales incentive structure, or maybe too many bogus enquiries. Selling a premium bike needs that extra effort specially when you have 2 tough competitors at both ends, the evergreen proven Ninja and the RC390 which is all over the place.

So I finally went ahead and booked a black R3 last week. Delivery on Friday. Can't wait! I was just wondering if it's a bad idea to go on a long drive (200kms in total) on Sunday, just a day after getting the bike. Any thoughts? Is it a no-no? Feedback appreciated!

Congrats buddy, from which showroom you had booked. It is definitely good to ride on highways, but make sure you give it enough rest after riding for 60-70 kms or so. Stop for 10 mins, since engine is new, dont stress it by riding it continuously. If you are planning to ride in ECR, PM me, I will join you in my little bike R15

I was thinking of joining the planned ride from Shollinganallur junction to Haritam restaurant on the Chennai-Trichy highway at 5am this Sunday. Still undecided. But sure, lets meet up and have a ride sometime on the ECR. I'll PM you.
