Ankit also said the same. But it will be tough convincing the SVC Supervisor as his manual is showing this!
It might take a mail or two to Yamaha I guess.
I am visiting tomorrow. Will update on progress.

AFAIK, even the 2016 stickering work not launched in india.

wWile in US optional ABS with new colour scheme for 2017 has been released.

Hopefully when they include ABS we might see the new model.

Run the ECU diagnostics once. The error cause will come out. Though never faced it myself in my short run of the bike.

Update:
The side stand page is to be ignored as that is R1's manual.
My SVC checked yesterday with Yamaha Technician but their laptop's software wasn't updated.
They confirmed from Noida that 5 vehicles came with the same problem and it is the lock set indeed.
Upon trying to order for a new lock set, the system didn't allow.
SVC Supervisor made a few calls and told me the lock set is being redesigned and will take a couple of months! 😤
I told him I can't keep my bike idle for that long so he is willing to give a temporary fix (mostly display bike's lock) after a week or so.
In the meanwhile, I am loving my R15 even more!

maybe you can start off by unplugging and re-plugging whatever wires you can see (stand bypass, ecu connector, speed sensor) and making sure you push the contacts and the wire that goes into the connector firmly. And even the clutch switch.
Someone even mentioned it could be ignition barrel and the wires that go from it.. spray some wd40 in to it and see what happens
Just curious, does the neutral light glow up in neutral and go off in gears ?

Yamaha R3 derived from high end bikes like R1. Most of the features are electronically operated and controlled by ECU and other systems. Most likely Indian mechanics are untrained for diagnosing electronic faults and rectification. Faults shall be as displayed and diagnosed resetting the program/control unit. Defective/unresponsive electronic part replacement. Of course mechanical part will not get so early replacement. It looks like more to do with untrained, no knowledgeable staff to cater to high end bike services. Either they are " Hathoda Chhap" or "Oil Paani Change type" mechanics. Now a days, the control unit/display units performs most of your checks on the machine except physical checks like wear and tear on tires.

Hi everyone,
I have read the whole thread and the detailed ownership experiences have helped me immensely in shortlisting the R3 for my next motorcycle.
However, there are a few apprehensions before going ahead and booking it.
Hoping to get some answers over here.

1) Will an R3 booked next month be free of the issues with oil pump and clutch present in the recalled models? I think I can find that out once I get the chassis no. Not sure though.
2) Which are the good Yamaha authorised showrooms / service centres with trained mechanics in Mumbai / Navi Mumbai?
3) I will be riding it 3-4 days a week for 75 kms a day with the occasional touring. Around 80% of this would be on open highways and the remaining with traffic. Will I face any over heating issues in such conditions?

I have received a quote of Rs.3,78,000 from Sakshi Motors, Navi Mumbai.

Have mailed the first question to Yamaha India but still waiting for a response.

I believe R3 manufactured from January 2015 to April 2016 are being recalled. Models manufactured after that should be free of all those defects. However doubly make sure the year of manufacture before delivery/order booking.

cheers for new R3 in advance.

Did you have any performance issues?
Whats the feel like after the new spark plugs? Did you use NGK or some other brand?

That's how normal used spark plugs look. they aren't 'burnt' or gone bad. Keep them as spares, never know when you need one.
It's better to replace them at 10~12k km intervals and not wait until they go kaput.. which is what Yamaha has recommended and Chandan92 has done.

So, 10,000kms done in little more that 8 months. A very happy and satisfied ownership till now.
Congrats for the 10000km mark.

The service and spares cost seems low for such bike.

I wonder why R3 costs as much as ninja if we keep slippery clutch aside.

For these spares price , the cost of R3 should have been atleast 25k less if we take ninja as reference.
