Even the month of manufacturing can be deduced from the VIN... 7F = July 2015... 8F = August 2015... AF = October 2015

Hey guys,

In my quest to make a bulletproof pros and cons list for choosing between the R3 and the Ninja 300, I stumbled upon an "Error 19" situation that Yamaha is yet to touch upon. Anyone here faced this issue on the R3? Can someone elaborate on it? All I know so far is that it is caused because of:
a. The side stand indicator that has been disconnected in India, but seems to connect on its own while riding/in standstill, thus killing power to the engine.
b. Faulty ECU connectivity.
c. Faulty kill switch.

I am told that Yamaha is yet to identify the exact problem and that these are just probable causes. Any truth to the matter?

I think this one is error code 01, I had this issue once, in the 10k the bike has run. The bike just refused to crank, tried the kill switch, clutch in and out , side stand thing. Finally turned the bike on and off again and then the bike turned on.

Never had the issue again, it was kinda weird.

Cheers

Any chance you took it up with the SVC? Told them about it?

Haven't been to the service center after that issue. I do not take it to the Orion Motors place which is the closest for me, the preferred place is Bangalore Wheels , which is very far to be going just for this. But yeah, the issue will be checked at during the next service, whenever that happens.

I keep hearing everyone saying Bangalore Wheels over and over again. I personally don't like the Pacer Yamaha showroom that's very close to my house. I saw the R3 being mistreated there and it sent shivers down my spine imagining the plight of the poor soul who owned the bike. Incidentally which BW outlet do you take your R3 to? I've been to the one on Dr.Rajkumar road and they didn't seem too enthusiastic about making a sale on the R3 to me.

The Rajaji Nagar branch, i think it's the same one you are talking about. The bike was purchased from Orion kormangala, because of distance issue, service is something i wouldn't take risk in. The BW guys can be a bit slow and all , but till now the work has been smooth and niggle free from them, do not expect VIP treatment either.

I had booked R3 blue color from a dealer in Bangalore. Bike was supposed to be registered and delivered on Monday. I went for a pre-delivery inspection today. Was shocked to see than the vehicle they had allotted to me was Oct 2015 model. Thanks to mknaidu11 and ArnabC for providing information on how to find the month/year of manufacturing using VIN. It was "AF" in this case. Seems like the same vehicle which they were displaying for the past few months (the display vehicle was missing today actually). I insisted on 2016 model and they have placed order today. Will have to wait for 2 weeks more now.

A word of caution to everyone planning to buy Yamaha, please make sure you are buying 2016 model itself. Not mentioning the name of the dealer as I do not have any proof to produce (I didn't take a pic of the VIN label). Since the bank has issued loan in this Dealer's name, I can't change now. I decided to buy from this dealer as this was nearest for me. I should have bought it from Bangalore Wheels My mistake.

I checked the VIN label under the rear seat. Is the VIN number embossed on the chassis like other biked on R3?

Iam not an owner but I have done extensive research on R3. AFAIK, this error happened due to faulty lock set. This also happened in the international variant, not only in India. And based on my research it occurred only on the earlier batch 2015 model.

I booked the Blue-Grey R3, they had. Showroom and service floor was squeaky clean. They had MT09 and VMax on dispaly, R1 was sold to someone, last month it seems. It was a pleasant experience handling with them. Thanks for the recommendation, it was worth the drive. Expecting to take delivery tomorrow, after registration.

Good point to be noted by perspective customers. 2015 model had recalls. hence beware not to go for 2015 model. If required to wait, please wait.
No problem in mentioning the dealer name. This is going to benefit all members to know the tricky dealer. There is no need of any proof. What you say is believed 100% as long as it is true.
Loan sanctioned can be diverted to another dealer if not satisfied with the present. Loan provider is a service provider, hence they will abide by your request. You have to make them to work for you.
