Regarding ABS, I dont blame Yamaha , its because of the market. Unless we drop the CC vs price comparison and start to appreciate ( buying) the tech, they cant provide high end features in imported bikes. Its one of the reason why Yamaha FZ25 Seems to be VFM product.
Its not that they dont want to provide, its because that we ( with some exceptions) dont want to buy. Bringing R3/Ninja itself is a big step from them IMO especially where we have KTM.

Long trip to Central India
Hi Friends,
I went out on a trip from Mumbai to Bhopal last week. Left on Saturday morning, reached by evening. Stayed there on Sunday and then rode back on Monday.
It was the longest that I have ever ventured out till now. The ride was of around 1600 kms and my bike performed wonderfully. Though the last 100 kms each way was pure torture due to saddle sore.
Sharing these pics.
I got an average of 27.8 kms per litre and generally I was running at around 90-100 kmph speed...on some stretches I did sprint up to 140...but on very few instances...
The roads on the entire ride were outstanding. The Maharashtra side did have speed breakers and humps all throughout, but the MP roads did not have humps. Even at intersections, the incoming roads had speed breakers, the high way was clean and smooth.
On my onward journey, I crossed Maharashtra border around 1 in the afternoon and then onwards, once I was in MP, it was very hot..with hot winds blowing all across. I consumed some 3 litres water between 1 PM and 6 PM and must have pissed only around 5oo ml or so..it was that bad.
before starting out I did have some apprehensions because I was going solo..but now i have returned back confident surer of the bike and myself.
wishing a safe ride to everyone.

I have removed the sari guard and rear fendor. Because of these factors, I had a difficult time anchoring the bags securely. The only solution was to move them a little bit to the front and then use a nylon rope to pull them backwards in a tight fit. Not a perfect solution but it worked.
I did not feel any discomfort sitting on the canvas connector. I was in denims.
Whatever discomfort I had, it was not connected with this. Rather I had stupidly changed the rear shocker setting to the firmest...(7)....that resulted in the saddle sore..I realised it much after I had finished the ride. I had done this as I weigh more than 100 kgs...but apparently its not suggested for long rides on smooth roads.

Guess you own a R3 and I am patiently waiting this to be relaunched in 2017 in case this does now happen I will most probably buy the next best thing in the market now which is a no brainer - 2017 Duke 390 by swapping my NS 200 however if financial situation allows me to buy a middle weight z800 or street triple or benelli 600 I is what I have in mind as my second big bike for weekend rush on the highway.. I have been following xbhp and review of all these bike for a while and having ridden them in person I have a good understanding of their temperament too however it is always nice to get a fresh perspective from owners of these bike so can you throw some light on your ownership experience of R3 here?Ride HARD but Ride SAFE
Cheers !!

General issues with the R3
Hi everyone,
I have gone through all the posts on this thread. It took me a while but I did.
I have been using this bike since Jan 2016.
I have had/having all the issues mentioned by various R3 owners here...namely;
A. Clutch bearing failing twice. 3rd month and 4th month of ownership
B. Tire cracking and poor grip
C. Error Code 19
D. Engine dying randomly
E. Shocker oil leak in the 8th month
F. Front wheel rims bent at the edges
G. General discoloration of the black parts..now they are sort of whitish black
H. Rusting of the swing arm
I. Some kind of oil leak near the drive sprocket or near abouts
J. Low beam head lamp failing every 3-4 months
The bike runs like a dream and I live with the above mentioned issues...sort of like married couples do over time.
I have gone on three long rides...once to Ahmedabad, then to Vadodara week before last and now to Bhopal in the last week. Each time, the bike has performed reliably....nothing untoward.
In between I have dropped the bike once, crashed twice, got crashed into once.
Have just completed 22k kms.

The Duke bike is loaded with tech...and has a bigger engine...is abruptly torquey at the low end and the biggest factor is that its mature now that its in its later avatars...
R3 on the other hand is still maturing...thus the recalls and the niggles which owners are experiencing...tech wise its ok ok...nothing very advanced...refined engine...smooth traction throughout the rev range...actually its 5k then 7k and then a mega pull at 9k...I am guessing at higher speeds R3 would be smoother compared to 390 because of the additional cylinder..but that will be only the .01 percent of time...rest of the time you will use the bike at normal road speeds which Indian traffic conditions permit..where in all the bikes are equal...
Ownership cost and service experience wise the Duke will win...its cheaper to own and run. Yamaha has fewer service centres compared to Bajaj..and still fewer technicians who are qualified to work on this bike...complicated matters take time to sort and not necessarily to your satisfaction..
my two cents..

Thanks for the review. Some of the above quoted points are seems to be issues which are not common in R3.
May be its particular to your bike ?

The drive shaft oil leak is something I noticed in one other R3 as well (The owner was not aware till I pointed it out)...since there are so few R3s I am assuming that this is something which needs to be taken care of by Yamaha. The oil does not drip..but the area(engine and the inside of the fairing) becomes messy with lots of oil and dust clinging on to it...I got it cleaned once..but it became as messy as it was earlier within a month...and the service centre guy is not willing to accept that some of the oil might be leaking due to oil seal problems. ...may be at higher speeds...
of course internet gives lots of probable causes and solutions...some of which are downright easy and some are scary.....as of now I am not letting this bother me...but some day when I have lots of time I will take this up with the sVC.
regarding the bulb..yes..I find it odd...but I don't know..i have taken to keeping one with me in the bike all the time...
