  • re: Yamaha YZF- R15 S Owners Reviews and Experiences

My pocket rocket had her 4th free service done last week with the odo at 8k. The engine revvs smoothly all the way to the red line and gear shifts are almost telepathic. Recently rode a Classic 350 which reminded how good the R15 is on the engineering front.

Paid Rs 900 odd for the service which included the customary chain cleaning + lubing, coolant and brake fluid top ups apart from the mandatory filter + oil change. Sticking to the manual recommended 20w40 Yamalube mineral which costs Rs 350 per litre. The SVC pushes synthetic every time but I refrain since changing a FS oil every 70 days just does not make economic sense. Will switch to FS once the warranty is over and perhaps prolong the service intervals from the now ridiculous every 2 months. For chrissake this is not a moped!!

Some pics from a recent day ride from Bangalore to Somwarpet which I did solo

        Done with 3rd service.
        Total bill = 3950/-

        Things fixed:=
        1. LH mirror + RH foo peg + silencer guard
        2. Brake overhaul/overoiling + swing arm overhaul/overoilng + coneset overhaul/overoiling
        3. oil change + chain clean/lube
        4. Taxes

stupidly they didn't change oil filter, upon asking there ans is user has to ask for oil filter change

The purpose of fairing is to make the bike aerodynamic and reduce the air drag. It keeps the bike rock stable at triple digit speeds and helps the bike corner at insane speeds. The fairing does is job perfectly ie. make is stable and safe at high speeds, do not use it as crash guard or it will take damage. From personal experience in last 2.5 years my bike fell about 3 times, 2 times at very slow speeds and one time when parked. The fairing had some scratches, but no cracks or breaking. Hope this helps.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

That's the reason why I want to change the fairing . because I dont want to damage the new ones. Any clue abt my original question

              Hi,

How many kms have you done on the bike? Seems too early for a brake overhaul if its only the 3rd free service. Also, why would the swingarm/cone set need attention so early.

Yes, the SVC guys need to be told to replace the oil filter *facepalm*

                First service update:

Today got the first free service done at 1095 KMs. SVC is - Monarch Yamaha, Tilak Road, Pune.

Total charge was 850 Rs. I requested them to look into the 2 issues I had -

                1. Noise from front part between 4K-5K RPM and foot peg vibrations
                2. That front shocker noise at bumps

For point 2 the SVC guy told me that they'll need to adjust some "play" of the shocker which should resolve this issue. And for first issue, the same response of its a fairing bike saaar, please expect some noise. No kidding.

I brought the bike back home, rode some 10 odd KMs, the bike does feel harder to rev now, not smoother at all like some of you guys claim after first or second service. Don't know what's the reason. The sound and vibrations have reduced a little though.

Also no one has responded to my main stand concern so posting that in the V2.0 thread for better visibility.

                Thanks.

Hey Guys, please guide if R15Sver 2.0 (banana seat) will be good for long rides/ laddakh tour in terms of comfort? Does ver 2.0 have O2 sensor?

done almost 7k kms when i have given to 3rd service, had done 5500km in 18 days , bangalore-Spiti-Leh , so needed greasing swingarm/cone due to dust and lot of off-roading

Did you get these things checked ?

                          1. Clutch cable setting
                          2. Chain slack
                          3. Proper tyre pressure
                          4. Whats your method of checking the mileage ?

                          Cheers,

                            Hi,

The bike's fresh outta service so there's no chain slack which I can see or observe. Clutch and clutch cable behave same as they did before, I'm not sure what else I can check here, inputs will be appreciated.
Tyre pressure is at recommended numbers, got it checked.
I check mileage once the bike hits reserve - "F" and then after refueling, F to F.

                            Thanks.

Check if the chain is not too tight, it's bad, there should be at least 1 inch free play.
