Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hi friends,
My Hornet has completed 19,500 km, 2 years and fifth service done. Cost around 1500 rupees (Paid Service) including oil, spark plug and air filter change.
During a regular wash, I noticed the rear tyre was significantly worn on the right side (the side where brake discs are present)). The problem was also on the front tyre, right side, but not obvious as that on rear. I went to ASS and got it checked. They said the alignment was not right and gave me bike back within half an hour, free of cost. I hope it is rectified.
Nearing 20k km, I feel it’s time to change the front brake pads and (stock MRFs) both tyres. The rear tyre has so far only one puncture and front has suffered none, no excessive air loss also. Apart from said wear, tyres are in good form (no deep cracks; tread depth indicator is good, it is not worn out now).
Sorry for this usual query. Should I stick to the stock tyres? No problems faced with stock MRFs in my experience. But anyway I am going to change, so asking your opinion. Are there better options in similar price range? My usage is mostly 50 km commute per day with broken rural roads and some city traffic. Lot of options presented here like MRF Masseter, Michelin Pilot Street, Pirelli Angel CT and (Speed) demon and Ceat Zoom XL. I want to stick to stock size. So looking for a better option for normal riding.
Thanks in advance...

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Hey everyone,
My bike was running fine when last week, on Monday, (I rode my bike on Saturday, but not on Sunday),
the weather was bit cold and I as usual warmed up my bike for 2-3 minutes,
but even if the bike was in neutral, giving a raise the engine responded very slowly for the initial 1-2k rpm.
and as I took off in 1st gear, there was almost no pickup!
The throttle response was veryy laggy, hardly the bike was moving even if I was giving throttle.
I still went ahead, after riding for about 5 more minutes, the throttle response came back, it started revving as soon as I wring the throttle.
It was the second time that happened, Once it has happened maybe a month ago.
It did not happen again, for the rest of the week.
I found it strange. what could be the cause??
I am thinking of visiting the service center once.

Will keep riding for now. Will try to warm up the bike nicely every morning.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostIgnore and keep riding!
I have to clear one thing once and for all.
This is for all hornet owners, or all carbureted bike owners, do you NEED choke to start the bike every morning?
Because I do, damn thing doesn't sustain idling without choke being open.
Every morning or after a long parking for 4-6 hours, I need choke to start the bike.
The bike does start without choke, but if I donot rev and keep rpms above 1k or if I donot open choke, it dies out withing 5-10 seconds.
Then I have to open choke and start again and keep the choke open for 30sec to 1 min only then i can close it and the bike can idle.
I just want the bike to sustain idling if I start the engine whenever it be, morning or evening, does that not happen?!

That's not just the case with your bike. Every Honda/Hero bike including my own Unicorn and plethora of Honda vehicles at home require choke when starting in morning or even in the day when left idle for 4-5 hours.Originally posted by elviento View PostWill keep riding for now. I'm from the school of thought that limits Choke Startup to those scenarios when you absolutely need it.Originally posted by elviento View PostWill keep riding for now. Will try to warm up the bike nicely every morning.

For the rest of the time I just crank a bit longer until she fires up and then get to riding with the throttle open, she'd idle fine in signals after the first couple of km's and I'm fine with that.
Carburetors do have a few niggles but the benefits they offer is something I cannot live without, hence I'd not bother much and keep riding.
After all life is short, so better not bother yourself with petty issues as the goal is to farther than before.

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
As suggested you can ignore these issue. I have had such intermittent issues a couple of time when bike was 1 year old. I did checked for dirty fuel and vapor lock. But, didn't found any specific cause. Those days, I just used chock every-time in morning and kept idle for 30-40 sec before rolling down. Using choke is not bad thing.Originally posted by elviento View PostHey everyone,

In Hyderabad it's cold weather and raining continually since two weeks. I had to keep bike always in open, just covered up. No issue of cold start, throttle lag or anything.------------------

Re: Honda CB Hornet 160R Owners Experiences
Thanks guys for clearing it out.
I thought my bike was the only one which needed choke to start because I see guys just push ignition switch and be on their way[emoji28]
Anyways, I recently modified my seat. The Hornet's seat was hard and I made a mistake of putting a rough seat cover on it so that rider and pillion don't keep sliding forward.
But it turned out to be more pain than comfort.
Now, I changed the cover as well as I had extra cushion added to it and contoured it so the pillion is also comfortable.
Otherwise pillion would complain of sliding down because of how inclined the seat was and it was kind of uncomfortable for longer distances.
Plus my height is 6ft 3 so I need to sit back by a little in my seat which wasn't easy because of the curve hornet's seat has.
It's better now after adding about 1 and half inch of cushion (from activa's seat) the cushion is not very soft not very hard, much comfortable than before.

Mine starts in a single kick in the morning, I've increased idle rpm a little.Originally posted by elviento View PostThanks guys for clearing it out.

Mine starts too with single push of ignition. But the idling doesn't sustain. Like if I donot rev then the engine after I turn it on, it shuts down in 5-10 seconds. Does that happen in your bike too?Originally posted by #bpk View PostMine starts in a single kick in the morning, I've increased idle rpm a little.
