I agree with you. I have rode Gixxer SF for more than 5000 kms and now I own a RTR 200 and completed around 8500 kms. Gixxer was good in terms of engine refinement, straight line stability in highway and protection from wind blast but you cannot ride it continuously for a long time as the performance is less and the stiff front suspensions makes the palm numb. Once I rode from Chennai to Vellore in SF and believe me, I had to take breaks every 30 kms and that was really annoying. When I returned home I was really exhausted and had severe backache. Coming to RTR 200, I did a lot of long rides with it and it didn't give me all the problems I faced with Gixxer SF. I felt that handling of RTR 200 is way better than Gixxer or any other bikes in 150 CC segment. I have not ridden NS 200 which many claims as a great bike but I cannot comment on that without riding it myself. There is no protection from wind blast in RTR 200 since it's a naked bike but I don't get numb palm or backache with this bike.

I have got a Good chain spray for the bike. Till now i have used it twice and can feel the chain is more smooth and noise of the chain even after 3 weeks is minimum. Before this i have used normal chain sprays from TVS and other companies also. Have also used Motul but then after 1 or 2 weeks could feel the rough chain and the chain noise use to increase by starting of 3rd week. But this spray has served the purpose for me. Don't know about more than 3 weeks as i generally spray wash the bike once every 2 to 3 weeks due to rain. Maybe after rain will come to know how much the lube can sustain. You can check it out for yourself also. Details and link for your reference.

Are you facing any issues with the brake? How old is your bike?

            • Recharge batteries of Apache RTR 200

The mechanic told me that he had changed the distilled water of the battery and had charged it for around 2hours. Still the battery stated low the next morning. Should I change the batteries ? Or how long should I run the bike to charge the battery ?

Please get it checked at svc. Sometimes the dust accumulates and causes the brake to jam. Any Xbhpian having more knowledge can help here. @B7ACKTHORN

Till now, nobody has reported this kind of problem in RTR 200 thread. In my opinion, RTR' brakes are one of best in its segment.

                  Thanks

Hi @Satya.stz , It's best to go for a small highway ride. It should charge the battery to some extent.

Hi @rakowli, the description says that it is pure white food grade grease. Is it something which Yamaha SVC use for R15, FZ's chain?

Hey guys! How is our thread progressing? Been away for almost 2 months and not managed to put as many miles on the Odo as possible..

-2200kms done (only :/) in little over 4 months

-gem of an engine which keeps growing on me

-sounds better than any single pot around. Really!

-getting an average of 30-35kmpl (80% city /20% highway)

-terrific build quality and clearly the motorcycle will last a long long time

-it took a long time to get used to the braking performance on the RTR, especially coming from an Fz16 (with a Michelin PSRs). Now i absolutely love the way it brakes progressively and reduces the possibility of lockups under hard braking

-best in class suspension. Easily. The KYB setup is different class and an absolute joy on pathetic road conditions. Perform as well on twistees and never lose composure

-I used to think the Fz16 handled well. Then I got the RTR and this thing is basically 'point and shoot' . Ridiculously good handling

                    - the faulty gear position indicator issues was resolved for good after an updated sensor was installed during the last service. This was the only major issue in my opinion and good work from TVS towards fixing it

-the chain is a major irritant though and requires lubing at really short intervals. Still remains a bit noisy

-there is a minor squeaky sound coming from the rear brake disc which goes away after a wash but returns again after some time. SVC helpless

                    - the low beam is adequate for normal city riding after sunset. But the high beam IMHO is useless. Will upgrade to a Hella projector setup once i start hitting the highways more

-i opted for the Pirelli variant. The Angel GT at the back is a brilliant tyre and is rightly very highly rated in the sport touring community. Really impressed with it. However, the Sport Demon on the front has been really disappointing, to me at least. It seems they occasionally lack composure/grip and I found Michelins on my old FZ far better. Will definitely shift to them once adequate miles have been put on. I also wish TVS provided a 100 section front like all others do on the segment. Would make the bike more stable on highways and under hard braking

-TVS service centres are rubbish with extremely undertrained mechanics (at least in my city). Although they are extremely proactive in seeking feedback and follow-ups post service. I'll stick to my trusted local mechanic once free services are over. He actually managed to fix minor niggles which the SVC were clueless about

-during my purchase, was told on several occasions that ABS would be made available for retrofitting by June-July. But there is no news of it and clearly the sales agents were fibbing I realise now. It's a crucial miss and even the Gixxer SF has now been launched with an ABS option. Pisses me off :/

Would love to know about the things /updates I've missed out on this thread! Cheers.

                      Hey Ali!
Long time no see, was actually wondering!

If you ever feel the lights are bad, ride a fz25 :P no offense to the owners but the headlight is absolutely rubbish. Yamaha should be doing something about it atleast.

Coming to the chain, there's an updated part as well. The front sprocket got an update, should cost 100+ bucks only.

Also the brakes when dusty make that noise, steel brakes after all.

Happy to see that the bike is performing well.
I had the fz25 for 15 days, trust me not even close. The refinement and fun of the RTR is unmatched by any of it's rivals. Not saying coz i have one, coz I rode the others extensively as well.

Good to hear from you too!

I was away caught up in the usual worldly rubbish.

The RTR200 is performing wonderfully indeed. It had its minor niggles initially but almost all are now fixed. As in a relationship, one has to be patient and make some adjustments. No point cribbing and expecting every thing to be perfect from day 1.

I am just happy that I bought a bike from an Indian manufacturer that is really aspiring and succeeding in its attempt to reach the levels of quality and refinement previously only offered by the Japanese.

I will definitely knock at the SVC and ask for the updated front sprocket. Thanks for the heads up on that.

Shall try to be more active going forward! Cheers

It is white grease spray. White grease is more sticky and better than the normal chain spray and stays intact for long. As the lube stays for long time and chain is more responsive and don't get dry for longer period.

Completed 1 year of ownership on 08th of aug of this beautiful bike. Loved it whenever i rode it. Yesterday completed 7th paid servicing of the bike at 16700kms.
Again changed the Gear sensor under warranty. No charge for the same. This sensor costing is cheap and so i think the quality is not good. It is only for Rs.150/-.
I checked it out personal when they changed it. Rest all was normal servicing which was done properly. This was the first time that i saw them servicing my bike personally as they told me to collect the bike in 3hrs so i waited there. I changed the Engine oil to Motul 5100 10W30 from TVS synthetic. Service center themselves were selling MOTUL so grabbed it for a change. Motul is anytime better then TVS. They told me to change the clutch plates also as its 16000kms up and the clutch plate as per their experience has become weak. But i thought otherwise and told them will change the same in next service. I didn't feel the clutch plates had become weak. Next service will be at approx. 20000kms so its ok for change.

Brake is RTR 200 is superclass there is no doubt about it.
Coming to engine its smooth not as honda or yamaha but far better than older RTR
Even in summer bike creates starting problem in the morning after 2 days of rest that is still not resolved by TVS SVC
Sometime you feel more weight at right side but that doesn't matter when you get used to it
Tyre is big issue it skid too much, in wet surface even on speed of 30-40 it tends to skid, don't do cornering with the stock tvs tyre
Gear indicator has problem some time gives wrong information
Overall its a nice and value for money bike, ABS and FI will be added advantage if launched

People looking to good bike with good FE then need to go with Hornet, Gixxer or FZ , RTR 200 FE is 30
