Its a high revving engine, u would end up doing more harm by lugging it in low speed at higher gear , stay at 5k for a fact 5.5k would also not harm. main point is to be gradual with throttle input, do not rip or rush. Make ur upshifting at 4k rpm for smooth gear shift.

4k rpm at 6th gear is 75kmph, they are fools u would be safe with engine till 5k rpm, ignore the speed concentrate on rpm.Originally posted by skt4u View Post

for that matter, I have seen increase in mileage when shifting gears above or around 4K RPM. + overall, 4K is where you get to experience its potential.Originally posted by Ijs View Post4k rpm at 6th gear is 75kmph, they are fools u would be safe with engine till 5k rpm, ignore the speed concentrate on rpm.

Yes this is when the engine enters into the power band. Gear shift are also very smooth at this point.Originally posted by xearoum View Postfor that matter, I have seen increase in mileage when shifting gears above or around 4K RPM. + overall, 4K is where you get to experience its potential.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi Guys,
I've finally saved enough and booked the brand new matte black dominar abs today.
Costed 1.81 on road at Jai Bajaj - Tambaram, Chennai..
I'll be getting the bike with registration on Monday..
What are the things I'll have to take care before taking the bike for delivery?
How long is the Run-in period and speed/rpm limits?
Looking forward to being a hyper rider, after being a rider for the past 2 years.
Cheers

Hi all - Did you notice the new ad from Bajaj for Dominar?
It is in a way refreshing to see the ad highlighting only Dominar features and characters and leaving the haathi away

Congrats on your purchase and welcome to the Domi club.
Running in period is for 2000 kms. For first 1000 kms, max speed limit is 73 kms and for next 1000 kms, it is 85 kms. You can refer to the owner's manual for the speed limit in each gear. Believe me, you will be waiting to see the 2K mark in ODO for you to hyper-ride. I have completed my 2k kms just today.
Refer to this thread for detailed PDI information.
After receiving quite a number of PDI queries on numerous ownership threads, I've decided to amalgamate my experience, articles, snippets from different sources, from around the web into a single concise article, for folks who are getting their first two-wheeler. This post is not just limited to motorcycles, but should serve as
Here are some quick checkpoints which our fellow xbhpian Sharath shared with me earlier.
-Check for the handlebar grips and footpegs to know whether they used it as a test ride bike or not.
-See the tyres and there will be small rubber things and a line on the tyre which will be obviously for a brand new tyre. If they are missing then the bike has been ridden.
-Check for any rust on the entire bike.
-Look for all the oil levels (engine oil, brake oil, coolant)
-Check for the alignment of the wheels. Make sure to look from the front and see the front tyre is aligned with the rear tyre and from the back also the same. If this is not the bike will be pulling to that particular side.
-Connect the battery, check the odo reading. Mine is 1km and at the delivery it is 7km because they said they will test it for the radiator fan to come up and a casual PDI ride.
-Look for the working of all the switches, lights, horn, etc
-Check all the documents, insurance IDV value, spellings on your ID proofs and the bike documents too.
Regards
Dinesh

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
guys.. does warranty get void if we use motul oil... coz today I gave my bike for service at rv bajaj Bangalore and they were dead against me using it even though I'd bought it myself and gave it to them...so I thought I'll ask here and then change the oil...

Your best bet would be to say no for oil change during service and get it changed from local mechanicOriginally posted by aniD400 View Postguys.. does warranty get void if we use motul oil... coz today I gave my bike for service at rv bajaj Bangalore and they were dead against me using it even though I'd bought it myself and gave it to them...so I thought I'll ask here and then change the oil...

Bajaj oil is as good as motul, it is made by total. Stick with it till ur bike is in warranty. Or try a different service center where they do ktm also there u can opt for motul.Originally posted by aniD400 View Postguys.. does warranty get void if we use motul oil... coz today I gave my bike for service at rv bajaj Bangalore and they were dead against me using it even though I'd bought it myself and gave it to them...so I thought I'll ask here and then change the oil...
There is very big misconception about bajaj dtsi 10w50, it is very good oil been using it since start never faced any issue.
If u still wish to put motul then u can get top up done at ur service and buy 1.5ltrs of motul 7100/5100 v 10w50 fron market and get it filled from outside along with new oil filter.
Make sure they open oil filter and replace it and there is one more filter at the bottom of the engine for which u have to remove the rear cowl and get it cleaned up, and the third filter is inside the drain bolt clean that too. This is the right way to do the oil change.
After riding few 100 kms no one can tell which oil u have put as every oil would get dark or black with usage.
Motul recommends 7100v or 5100v 10w50 for Dominar and only 7100v 10w50 for ktm390.Last edited by Ijs; 06-02-2018, 09:46 PM.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Finally my D400 coolant problem got solved. Radiator cap is the main culprit. After replacing the radiator cap coolant does not fall down. I searched through internet and found that someone's low coolant problem got solved by changing radiator cap so i thought let's give a try and bang on it works. As i don't have technical knowledge so i am asking you guys how it got resolved. I gave 3 coolant top ups before replacing the radiator cap and my question is why coolant drops on riding every 500 kms, where it goes??? No leakage found. Does it mixes with the engine oil but i don't think so as engine oil looks fine. I am sharing this if someone facing the same issue it will help

My theory is, if the radiator cap is faulty, it allows the coolant to escape. Coolant contains water, as we all know.Originally posted by sam.jit2008 View PostFinally my D400 coolant problem got solved. Radiator cap is the main culprit.
