But manual says we have to use recommend Bajaj engine oil only.Originally posted by IamAditya View PostFor Dominar,RS and NS, motul FS 7100 is the best.
We may face issue while claiming any warranty if we don't use their recommended oil.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I just read it in manual.

Btw some service centres go off the hook to allow customers, maybe they got rid of this practice since dominar is big and sensitive!

Sharing so that it might help. Against advice that it's unnecessary, i still changed oil to castrol mineral 20w-50 grade @ 200 kms before first service. So not sure what helped but bike seemed much smoother shortly after that oil change. Hence thinking of switching to a a supposedly better fully synthetic. I don't think Bajaj will mind much.Originally posted by ROHAN SPEEDOFREAK SHARMA View PostYou're correct, its just that someone started the topic so [emoji14]

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Most manufacturers make their own oil and recommend that because it's good for business; practically any oil in the right grade and quality can be used without problems; the companies force the customers to use their oil because they make more money out of it.

Was it a diy?
How difficult it is to change the oil?
I myself want to change oil once before first service.
Did you do the first service?
Thanking you

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
First service update:
It took me quite some time to get to the 720KM mark before giving for service.
Dropped my bike off at 9AM at Popular Bajaj Bannerghatta road.
The service adviser promised a delivery time within 4 hrs.
I am pretty sure mine was the first Dominar that day for service, not sure there was any spill over from previous day.
I dropped the vehicle and later called service mechanic around 2PM asking for delivery. He said it will take some more time and asked me to come at 4PM. I reach at 3:40PM only to find that the bike was taken for service only sometime back.
The oil was changed in front of me, albeit across the glass wall. The chain cleaned and lubed. Oil coolant topped up.
I had complained about fuel overflow and it was due to an air block. I have not filled to the brim to check if this has sorted the issue.
However, will do so shortly and update.
The ECU update was done post the service, and then the service manager took it for a quick ride before going for customary polishing.
I did not feel any change to the way bike rides after the ECU update. Honestly i liked the way the bike has been performing all the while. The synthetic oil (10W50), some Bajaj 10000 brand, not sure how effective it is.
I am hoping by the time i am ready for second service Motul 7100 will be available for use.
The service adviser said, the delay is because there were some vehicles ahead of mine. I did not argue. Then he went on to say, there is only one engineer trained for the D400. I was and still am perplexed at this. I hope they have a well thought of backup plan if this engineer takes an off.
Total cost Rs 1588.
I was asked to purchase a cleaning kit worth Rs 350, which i politely refused.
Did a short 120Km ride along the Hosur - Krishnagiri road, and pushed the bike to 105Kmph for a few seconds. I was maintaining the 85kmph mark as per manual religiously.
The bike does feels relaxed and is a tab bit smoother, may be its the new oil.
I am sure I am not happy about the service and it shows in me putting this post together.
More to come as i munch more miles.
Safe riding!!Nothing is comparable to the simple pleasures of a bike ride.

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Hi Riders,
I am riding a white ABS Dominar 400 for almost 3 weeks now and here are some stats along with what I've observed and experienced till date with the D400.
Booking Date: 30th Dec 2016
Delivery Date: 24th Jan 2017
Kms Driven: 1000
Fuel Consumed: 34 Ltrs (3 full tank)
Average: ~29 kmpl
Top Speed: 93 kmph
Max rpm: 5500
Driving Area: 70% highway, 30% city
1st Service Cost: Rs. 1257
Before 1st Free Service:
When I got the bike in my hand. The odometer read 8kms. The showroom person said the rear brake will not be effective until I complete ~25kms. Yes, it lacked the bite. But as I crossed ~30kms the rear brake was much better. But still not the best. The rear suspension was also stiff. The front brake and suspension was good enough.
The green coloured coolant was exactly at the middle between the max and min levels. When ever I crossed the 4500rpm range I felt the vibration in the foot pegs.
Before the 1st service I took the bike for a 330 km (round-trip on a state highway) drive after which the rear suspension became a little softer but is still on the stiffer side. Now, the under belly squared black box scrapes the speed braker everytime there is a pillion on.
After 1st Free Service:
The service station manager and supervisor said the engine oil was changed, oil filter was changed along with an ECU update (firmware flashing). They also said the rear brake wouldn't be effective for next 10kms.
Now I am not able to cruise the bike past 93kmph. When asked the service manager said a speed limiter is set during the ECU update which has to be done as per Bajaj. Also, it would automatically get reset after 2000kms. The vibration has increased and I am feeling it on the foot pegs as usual and on the seats and handlebar. My fellow rider saw the chain slack was not proper so we set it ourselves. Now the vibration has reduced a fair bit but still not arrested completely. I also hear vibrating plastic parts. Also when I slow down the vehicle for a stop or any reason as a matter of fact. The rpm rises exactly at 7kmph to around 2500-3000rpm and subsides after I either stop it or move it further. In addition it looks like the coolant has also been topped up and is above the Max limit now. The service manager asked to bring my bike sometime this week and would correct the possible things for free.
PS: I had to wait for the service for a good 3 days since the Bajaj DTSi engine oil for D400 did not arrive. I'm pretty sure there won't be enough spares as well. So please ride safely and responsibly guys.
Cheers,
Shankar N

Bro, I took the bike from Amba Bajaj GB Palya. 1st service is done. The service station manager and supervisor said the engine oil was changed, oil filter was changed along with an ECU update (firmware flashing). Now I am not able to cruise the bike past 93kmph. When asked the service manager said a speed limiter is set during the ECU update which has to be done as per Bajaj. Also, it would automatically get reset after 2000kms. It is definitely not the rpm limiter. Since I tried revving the bike in idle and it easily crossed 7k rpm. When I crossed 90kmph it was at 4.5k-5k rpm. I revved my bike in the 5th gear at 5500 rpm as well. So definitely not rpm limiter. I see you have crossed 100kmph. Did the service person say anything of that sort regd. speed limits set in your D400.Cheers,CC

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
1st service done at 500km on odo:
Quick thoughts on service
1: not sure what is changed in bike's performance after service.
2: oil level, I checked it in the morning the oil level is just touching min mark.
3: chain feels little tight now and dirty as well ( he lubricated it and chain has more stains of black oil. )
4: I'm not sure about what I'm feeling is actual thing or my illusion, I feel more weight towards right side while riding.

Got it done from the local mechanic. Did not change oil filters, simply drained and refilled. That i thought was enough for first oil change. First service is done.Originally posted by satyajit200ns View PostSir how you changed?

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
Not sure if i got ecu update after first service but i but 110 kmph. Also not heard from anyone about a speed limit. That sounds too radical. I can understand a rev limiter to protect the engine but not speed

Re: Bajaj Dominar 400 Ownership Experience Thread
There definitely isn't any speed limiter that I know of. It pushed the bike to 107Kmph and it could still go further, but sanity prevailed in me. Please recheck, this may be the "goobe koodsodu" by Bajaj. Please write to Bajaj if required.Originally posted by CapedCrusader View Post[COLOR=#1D2129][FONT=Helvetica]Bro, I took the bike from Amba Bajaj GB Palya. 1st service is done. The service station manager and supervisor said the engine oil was changed, oil filter was changed along with an ECU update (firmware flashing). Now I am not able to cruise the bike past 93kmph. I forgot to mention:
The silencer was not removed to drain the oil. They just removed the cowl protecting the sensor at the bottom and drained the oil. Few drops did fall on the silencer, but that is OK i guess.
Sorry mods for the back to back posts.Nothing is comparable to the simple pleasures of a bike ride.
