I used to have that sound too, although not always. During first service, it was either promptly ignored or they tried something to fix it, but it was still there. But now, at 3500Kms, its barely heard anymore. And I only get that sound very feebly, when the engine is ripped or when its rode for longer times or in rains. So, I would say to everyone to give the engine sometime to settle, at least till 2000kms..

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
The same kind of noise was there in one of my friend's Aprilia SR Race which was only 2months old at that time. SVC tried to convince it is coz of clutch/normal, but escalated the issue to higher off and got that fixed in a week. Vibrations reduced a lot after that fix. Please check with SVC.Originally posted by jatinkmr911 View PostBtw this is the coin rattle/ticking/clicking sound that I'm facing, can anyone corroborate that it is the tappet sound or something else?

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I just bought white fz25 yesterday.
1. Found clicking noise while shifting from neutral to 1st and 1st to 2nd gear, gear shifting does not smooth. Is it normal for others before 1st service?
2. Is it a good idea to change oil around 500km? and then at 1000km

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Gears will be smooth after you clock some 4-5k. You can change oil all at once at 700kms. I got first service done at 720km. 500-700 is a good period for 1st oil change.Originally posted by anubhavsharma18 View PostI just bought white fz25 yesterday.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
That is valve noise (tappet noise). I think you are pretty much tired going to SVC & come with no solution at all because some of them have to many work load that they just open up the head cover to please you that your said things are done. Do some research about how to adjust tappets (or adjust valve clearances) in motorcycle. DIY will help you.Originally posted by jatinkmr911 View PostBtw this is the coin rattle/ticking/clicking sound that I'm facing, can anyone corroborate that it is the tappet sound or something else?

You need basic tools like Spanners & T-Handle socket wrench, Screw Driver, Allen keys & Feeler gauge.
Adjust tappet in your hand. Make sure you collect the actual valve clearance measurements from the internet for fz25.
I hope you understand.
ONE THING! Now Yamaha new bikes are coming with valve noise in built as a slightly valve clearance gives better performance as it breaths easier. I also faced that issue while buying my friend's fz25 and mine r15 in this year. And, for God sake, do not keep the clearance less than minimum, it will bend the push rod as well as damage valves.Regards

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Does the valve train in FZ25 come with shims to adjust valves or is it a screw type adjustment. Asking because if its screw type, i might attempt but if its shim type, no way in hell am i attempting it.Originally posted by saikatbyte View PostThat is valve noise (tappet noise). Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Fortunately no is the answer, you need a plier to hold the square small rod to adjust gap and a 8mm spanner to loose or tighten the hexagonal bolt before or after the adjustment respectively. To open up the cover, you may need Allen key or 8mm/10mm spanner or wrench or t-handle wrench that I dont know as I never seen fz25 engine head accurately. R15 needs 8mm spanner and FZ16 needs allen key 5mm.Originally posted by jatinkmr911 View PostDoes the valve train in FZ25 come with shims to adjust valves or is it a screw type adjustment. There is a tool to adjust the tappets. The link is given below. Check'em out.

So it's screw type. That's a relief. It will be the first time that I'm attempting a DIY repair on a bike and obviously the easier it is the better.Originally posted by saikatbyte View PostFortunately no is the answer, you need a plier to hold the square small rod to adjust gap and a 8mm spanner to loose or tighten the hexagonal bolt before or after the adjustment respectively. Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Not really. I remember seeing the exact clearance values in one earlier post so i plan on referring to that.Originally posted by paul.1911 View PostFirst time diy on tappet? Do you know what is the clearance?
I plan on visiting one another SVC today, Adarsh Yamaha in Okhla, which is apparently the best SVC in Delhi NCR. Let's see what conclusion they reach to.
Hoping for the best.

Well if you got it opened or opened by yourself then do click a pic of tappet screw. I have one tappet screw adjustment tool, will see if that fits otherwise will get new.Originally posted by jatinkmr911 View PostNot really. The clearance on cold is

Isn't the 250 cc mill SOHC? The valves are actuated by the cam itself IIRC and not by a pushrod? Why would the pushrod bend when it isn't a pushrod actuated valvetrain?Originally posted by saikatbyte View Post......

OHC will not have pushrod. Instead rocker arm actuates valve.Originally posted by jatinkmr911 View PostIsn't the 250 cc mill SOHC? The valves are actuated by the cam itself IIRC and not by a pushrod? Why would the pushrod bend when it isn't a pushrod actuated valvetrain?

OT: Not even a rocker arm, if its 2 valve it can be directly actuated by the cam lobes, can't it?Originally posted by BikeOphilic View PostOHC will not have pushrod. Instead rocker arm actuates valve.
