  • Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Got my 3rd service done yesterday and they've made the rear brake super loose, apparently because most FZ 25 owners have been riding their rear brakes.

I'm super annoyed because I loved the feel of the brake, now it feels about as useful as the bad drum brake on my Hero Impulse. [emoji19]

Was the timing mark cap properly torqued, if it's loose oil can sometimes weep out from the cap. Secondly, if it's coming from one of the magneto cover bolts, the threads might be stripped or the bolt isn't torqued right. Get the bolt retorqued and the timing mark cap O ring checked and tightened and check if it arrests the oil leak. If yes, it's probably nothing to sweat about. If it doesn't arrest the leak, check the magneto cover bolt where there is oil stain and replace the bolt and check if it gets torqued, if it doesn't then replacement of either the bolt or the tapping may be necessary.

      The girl said, 'NO!'

        1. Mine is 2018 March motorcyle and i havent heared this tappet noise... good helmet would solve if it is present.
        2. I am in a long distance tour as i write this... have done about 800km so far in 2 days and the bike is stress free. Was doing 90-95kmph continuously and the engine had so much in reserve for overtakes...
        3. You would feel some vibes while the engine is settling down... mine has done close to 3000km and i feel vibes above 6k rpm even with full gear. Anything below 6k is fine now... once the engine settles in...it should be free...
        4. Haven't calculated milage yet... but console displayed 36.5kmpl when riding 90-95 kmph. Funny thing though, felt bored looking at the fuel gauge... felt like forver to empty...
        5. Headlight... highbeam is useless... if you hit higways fog lamps are mandatory... have to cut short my trip before reaching preplaned destination because i couldnt ride with this poor headlight... too dangerous to ride in higways at speed... any object or person crossing road is barely visible...

This is what I like... Real time feedback (almost :-)). Keep on going! Looking forward to your review. I bought my FZ25 last year. Haven't done touring as of yet. The bike is real nice. No problems encountered so far.

Won't call this a review...but would like to share my experience on the touring perspective.. Just completed 1557km ride.. (Literally an hour ago). My observation..

            What I like:

            1. Suspension : its just amazing.. ride quality is amazing and bike felt planted all the time even.. Had to go over bad patches and unleveled roads, suspension observed every bit of it.

            2. Engine performance:
Never felt underpowered or the need of 6th gear. Absense of liquid cooling did not bother. Though oil cooled and 2 valve, even in hot sun reving at 6k to 7k rpm continuously for hours together.. engine was never stressed and did not over heat. She was more happy to be reved and reved again.

            3. Power and torque:
Was just amazing, even when I was riding in 100kmph, bike had little more in reserve. With fully loaded tail bag and 80kg rider on board, she never hesitated to pull.

            Thing that need Improvement:

            1. Seats : Way too hard on bum. Its nearly impossible to ride on stock seat for long.
            2. Headlight assembly : Noticed it to be shaky on highways.
            3. Rear view mirrors : would love to have lesser blind spots.

            Things that are Bad:

            1. Head light :

Completely useless in highways. Zero visibilty on speeds excess to 75kmph. Barricades or public crossing road were barely visible. And wonder why this bike has high beam. Useless throw didnt make any difference, visibility was as same as low beam. Wouldn't do night runs with this.

            2. Breaks : It was okay..wont say great but just okay. Manages to stop without locking the wheel. But it is not confident inspiring. Had to break much ahead than i prefer to and not even once i felt confident in breaks.

Something to consider in long rides:
            1. Cross winds : with speeds above 100kmph in cross wind is tiresome to handle. Bike just wees around when there is gust of wind. Its a light weight motorcycle, cant expect to be planted to the road. But its something to be considered if you hit highways frequently.

            2. Headwind is manageable with good aero dynamic helmets. Didnt feel it up until 110kmph, post that its too much to bear. However, when riding at speeds, even tailing a small cars, the bike feels unstable and hard to control. Caution to be taken while overtaking big trucks and buses, at speed you get pulled in if you go bit close or pushed out when at a distance.

            3. Vibration:

It is predominantly present, however with good gear, it can be masked. Riding at 7k rpm, right foot peg did buzz inside my riding boots. If you don't have a glove , riding wont be pleasent.

While returning constantly reved at 7k/ 110kmph and bike returned 25kmpl. Even doing that speed for 10hrs, I dont feel the fatigue and still fresh to take more. Having said that, it wasnt all pleasent ride for me. This is particular to my bike. Had trouble with it since day 1, bike pulling towards right. Changed handle bar and made all adjustment in the front fork and handlebar alignment. But it still pulls right and i had to put additional pressure on my left to fight back, resulted in shoulder pain.

But in general, if the bad qualities can be taken care, this is an amazing bike for long distance touring. Feels pleasant when in 80-95kmph, also happy to be reved continuously at 110kmph.

I have had the same issue. IN my case also the service center replied that it won't come under the warranty. However he got the welding done for the pipe at his cost.

Regarding your handle pulling towards the right, have you ever checked if the handle falls off on it's own towards the right, or if wobbles below 20 kph if you leave your hands?

The funny thing is tyre wear appears to be dead center and no wobbles. I left the handle to see if it pulls right...it doesnt. But the feeling is there. Even service center dont have a clue. It feels like its tilted towards right while riding straight, when i sit with one bum outside to my left the bike appears to run stright... cant understand what is going on...

Fz25 has a triple tree alignment problem. Many people have faced this. Mine's slightly different than yours though. I think in my case, there might be something loose in the front assembly.

Does that impact front end feel?? Anyhow... will ask them to take a look in my next visit.

Haha. True biker here. Do let us all know if the problem is sorted. And you're welcome to a dedicated WhatsApp group for fz25 owners.

Yes it does but first check front tyre for any damage or lining issue. Few fz25 have front tyre manufacturing defect.
