  • Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences

So after a long hiatus I make a comeback to being an active part of the X-bhp forums because after quite a gap, I've got back to riding with a brand new FZ25. Picked her up yesterday. She's also my first Yamaha.

Looking forward to learning from the ownership thread. Prior to this was active on the P200 thread but have long since sold off my first bike.

There are a few things I need to clarify on and would appreciate if fellow owners here can guide if they can. Apologies if some points have been repeated.

    1. Need to get rid of the tyre hugger - any major negative issues with spray from the rear wheels if done?
    2. Don't like the mirrors on the bike.. find them quite restrictive. Any suggestions on swaps?
    3. The HORN! or should i say "Tweeter".. for a bike that cost this much, what were Yamaha thinking with putting this horn? Ridiculous! Has anyone upgraded to better horns? If so, brand and costing would be appreciated.
    4. Seat height I find a tad low for me at 6'3. Will need to get a custom one done with added cushioning.
    5. Turn indicators - would definitely love to swap them to LED ones. There are a couple of aftermarket ones being sold on Amazon etc. Are they a direct swap or is there a risk of splicing with the wiring and electricals? Also are the mounts for the indicators universal?
    6. Swap the LHS switch control unit to the Pulsar type ones with provision for the front index finger operated pass switch. I dislike the one Yamaha has offered with the thumb operated function for the pass switch. I find I have to compromise my grip when shifting to reach with my thumb. This also restricts the ability to use the high beam dynamically during a turn or lean when you want to hold it on just for a short while to have better visibility on the turn..
Not sure if this is possible though!

Anyways! hope to keep contributing over time to this thread. In the meantime any suggestions or feedback for a new owner from the more experienced ones here will be much welcome. Anything I need to know or keep track of or just make a mental note of - please do not hesitate to share.

    Cheers!

      1. tyre hugger is counter productive , it throws mud & sand to the pillions back.
      2. you will get used to the mirrors after a week or so.
      3. you can get aftermarket bosch horns with loud sound with relays costing arround Rs860.
      6. i find pass light to be quite practical .

      ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

I got white fz25 a week ago ,till now i have clocked 350kms there is some problems i observed

      1. excess engine heating after 20km rides.
      2. shifting gears from 2nd-3rd is quite hard .
      3. some vibrations creeping in at 4500-5500 rpm range & can be felt at handle bar & footpeg.

(i ride 70kmph max during this break in period).

      any one experiencing the same?

Keep it for rains. Remove later.

        RTR
        3. The HORN! or should i say "Tweeter".. for a bike that cost this much, what were Yamaha thinking with putting this horn? Ridiculous! Has anyone upgraded to better horns? If so, brand and costing would be appreciated.
Good enough for city. For highway, suggest root horns.
        4. Seat height I find a tad low for me at 6'3. Will need to get a custom one done with added cushioning.
True, I too need to get this done.

The one on Amazon are direct swap. But wire length is small for rear indicator, so you need to extend that. No splicing or cutting required on motorcycle wiring.
        6. Swap the LHS switch control unit to the Pulsar type ones with provision for the front index finger operated pass switch. I dislike the one Yamaha has offered with the thumb operated function for the pass switch. I find I have to compromise my grip when shifting to reach with my thumb. Not possible, You will find the one on FZ much comfortable on usage.

Thanks on the comments so far guys.

Shame about the LHS control swap. Not sure if I'll ever get used to it.

Was also wondering if I could get the handles angled slightly as the stock ones appear to be a bit to straight & wide set for my liking. Wish Yamaha have this beauty clip ons instead of the current one

I bought my Fz25 last June, knight black , odo reads 1445kms. It's a great starter bike even for someone who's new to riding 250cc motorcycle. It looks great, gives great mileage, ergonomics riding position, smooth handling in city traffic, great low end torque, lovely bassy exhaust note. I've no complaints upto last week whatsoever, but then things starts to get weird. Alright, here's the thing, when I start my motorcycle, engage the clutch and dropped it into first gear, I'm slowly releasing the clutch then feeds the throttle, and then suddenly it stalls and died! This doesn't happen everytime but it happens to me thrice. And the funny thing is, after it stalls and died, whenever I tried to start it up again by pressing the start button, it just won't start. Only when I turn off the ignition and turn it back on then it starts again! This also happens to me while I'm on the move, cruising slowly in 2nd gear in traffic. I know I'm still a novice but I can move my motorcycle smoothly from stop to go and this doesn't have anything to do with me being a squid or not learning to smoothly control the clutch or feed the throttle. Console all lits up, headlight, indicator all working fine. The battery seems to be working perfectly. Electrical problems? Fuel injection? Any advice guys?

Doesn't sound like a major issue to me but I suspect it can be either an issue with the electricals or the fuel supply. Fuel system contamination/FI problem/Spark plugs can also cause this.. Take it to a service center before you damage it any further by riding it with this behavior. Although the problem itself doesn't seem to be serious and should be an easy troubleshoot for the service guys, riding it with repeated stalls without getting the underlying problem fixed is absolutely not advisable

Try the AS200 windshield. Somehow, it seems to fit well with most nakeds. I had it on my old FZ and now have it on my RTR200. Will need some jugaad in terms of making clamps etc though. Worth a try.

I think dealer has given you a TC number and you need to take your bike for a permanent registration later on.
Please verify info with your respective RTO asap

Maybe dealer has a backhand tie up with rto officials.
In Delhi got my bike on 18th august and got the number via sms from RTO while I was in showroom and got the printout of RC, within two days got the number plate, no need to visit RTO, dealer called me and I got it fixed. Now RC card would with chip would take 45 days which I will collet from dealer, till that time printout would work, not sure why they not follow the same process across india by digitizing RTO services, like in Delhi.

Ya bro. Hope they follow this across India. In Karnataka it's the worst, my friend is still waiting for his RC card since past 3 months. Their reason of delaying was that smart card supplier has stopped supplying due to payment due by Karnataka govt.

Yes, even my brother got a new bike and it took 40 days to get the number. F**ING karnataka govt, they are taking 18%tax which is 6%more than other state. Still service is pathetic.

Bought bike week ago..done approx 150km highway plus city ride ..some observations are

1st- chain making some friction type of noise. Mostly when i pull clutch.

2nd- pickup is not that much as expected from reading comments...(I'm coming from 7 years old pulsar 150cc)

                            3rd - engine is heated within 10-12km

And also known issues like hard gear shift, front headlights assembly shakes, usless high beam

                            Any comments/solutions regarding these problems

It's either a loose chain or you probably had set some unreal expectations regarding pickup/acceleration.. Coming from a 200NS, I find the FZ25 pulling ahead even better in the 0-110 range..

Hearing is normal for new engines. It should settle by the time you get to 1k kms.
Headlight assembly needs to be raised, refer some old posts for DIY or take it to the svc.

1st- chain making some friction type of noise. Mostly when i pull clutch.
1- opt for chain adjustment at 1st service, when you engage clutch the engine sound reduces thats why you can hear chain more clearly.

2nd- pickup is not that much as expected from reading comments...(I'm coming from 7 years old pulsar 150cc
2- looks like loose chain issue coz there is enough pickup in every rev range.

                                3rd - engine is heated within 10-12km
3- mine was also heating but after 300odd kilometers it goes away (due to tight clearance between piston and cylinder in new engine).
4- gear issue will be solved in 1st servicing, pile on more & more kilometers and gear will be smooth.
