Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
About Metzeler tires:
Are they over rated?
I have ridden some 700 kms. I have never lost grip even on open throttle corner exits. But I do have a feeling these are not stickiest rubber I have used.
Comparing this to mrf R15 version 1 stock rubber. That tire was very soft, only a pothole at 70-80 kmph was required to puncture it, at times. Metzeler are lot more robust than that. But grips on that tire was endless. R15 simply did not have motor to unsettle it, no matter what noob mistakes you make.
Here I definitely have to be careful with the throttle and modulate it.
Your thoughts?

Guys quick question.
Are IND nunber plates illegal in India.
I'm pretty sure they aren't but just one of my friends told its illegal, so wanted to Clear it with you guys.
Also seems I have to pay separately for them. 500 rs to be precise. Seems to be on the higher side.
Thank you.

I don't think officially there is any such thing as 'ind' number plates. It just seems to one of the more popular designs in certain places.Originally posted by sujithbvm View PostGuys quick question.

Some states require you to have a High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) -- the ones that are embossed, have a hologram and code specific to your vehicle and riveted to the mounting points by the RTO itself. This is the case in Telangana for new vehicles since around 2014. And you are charged for these too apart from the usual registration costs, since the plates are provided by the RTO.
A similar embossed metal plate will cost you around 400rs outside.. ofcourse it comes without the security feature/code/hologram.
Other older vehicles can use regular plates (stickers, embossing, raised 3d lettering etc.), with the condition being they adhere to the font specs and are legible.
and ofcourse not everyone follows the rules , some remove the HSRP and put in their choice of designer plates
So better check with the rto rules in your state and what other users have to say.Last edited by s1d; 11-12-2018, 03:40 PM.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Your friend is right. Actually as per RTO at least where I live, they are deemed illegal by High Court and for the most they are illegal unless not gotten from the RTO itself. Non-Ind plates can be sourced for 400 bucks. Actually RTO designated IND plates have special rivets and that's a story for some day.Originally posted by sujithbvm View PostGuys quick question.

If you love the board design, you can make sure you get those same embossed plates sans the logo for 400 with nice fonts, adds the same style and what not. I'd suggest don't go with IND, it's just about time, they stop you and bribe you.
Hope it helps!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END

Don’t sweat too much about the plates. Go with the normal one. Make sure you have the front plate. Stickers on front fender (mudguard) will attract the traffic police as well as a fine between ₹100 to ₹300.Originally posted by sujithbvm View PostGuys quick question.

bro, did not notice any difference in fan noise from previous.Originally posted by karan-mishrap View PostBuddy, how loud is the fan noise ? Asking it as I had the same issue and thought it's cos of big engine...later found fan was not running at the speed it's suppose to be it was running very slow thus was making less fan noise....also show the bike to BTM Svc they were the one who found the problem, Bannerghatta Svc were helpless
but indiranagar svc chnaged the fan under warranty. but i still get the high engine temp warning in just 30 mins of B2B traffic. In normal traffic, there is no issue.

In bangalore it seems you need IND on the number plates.Originally posted by JN8304 View PostDon’t sweat too much about the plates. Go with the normal one. Make sure you have the front plate. Stickers on front fender (mudguard) will attract the traffic police as well as a fine between ₹100 to ₹300.

Yes they do target you for stickers. So I'm surely going with front numbers plate.Originally posted by JN8304 View PostDon’t sweat too much about the plates. Go with the normal one. Yes, it seems like it varies from state to state. In bangalore it seems IND is compulsory, otherwise the cops stop you for not having it.Originally posted by s1d View PostI don't think officially there is any such thing as 'ind' number plates. Still if anybody has any information regarding it in Karnataka, it would be helpful.
Thank you.

State to state this rule changes.
May be tomorrow when I goto office, I will directly ask a cop about it. Haha.
Hope, all cops in bangalore have a common view on this rather than mixed opinions.

I currently use a "tamper proof" plastic number plate. Earlier I used a normal metal plate with a sticker for each digit.Last edited by Shashank K R; 11-13-2018, 01:51 AM.

Many vehicle owners are been fined by the city traffic policemen for fictitious rules. The motorists are being asked to use IND number plates, failing to do
There are genuine as well as fake IND plates. I fell for the fake ones when buying my d200. One pressure wash and all that black paint on the plate vanished. I bought the normal plates from the service and visited a sticker store to get the registration numbers on the plate. Did not face any issues after that. Toured south India with the same plates and not once was I stopped and questioned about the plates, same goes with the 650 and the 390. Normal plates with black stickers regular font.
In fact I used my Dio in Gandhinagar Gujarat with KA registration number (same plate and same black stickers) not once was I stopped. When I bought a four wheeler in Gandhinagar Gujarat I released that the HSRP is mandatory and these plates are only available in the RTO. I had to drive to the RTO to get the HSRP plates fixed.
So, it’s up to the Karnataka state government to clear the air. Till that time comes, I suggest you stick to the normal plates. In case you are stopped by the traffic police, which may not happen, politely ask them for the order/document.
PS: my dio still have the same old plates with those black stickers

I am Bengalurean, you are misinformed by those new links and spreading wrong things. It is not needed as mandatory and its only some corrupt cops are trying to make money from the rich IT crowd of Bengaluru who are ignorant and gulibe.Originally posted by sujithbvm View PostIn bangalore it seems you need IND on the number plates.

As long as the font and spacing of the number plate is clearly visible without any other stickers, italics, family names etc etc and as per specification of letter height, width. Even on a clear white plate is OK.
Follow this.

"Some traffic policemen in the city are duping gullible two-wheeler riders by collecting fine for non-existent rules. They insist that the letters ‘IND’ be marked on vehicle number plates and those who don’t have it have to cough up a fine of Rs 100 to Rs 200. A senior traffic police officer, however, told Express that no such rule exists even as motorists continue to get taken for a ride"Last edited by kiran2508; 11-14-2018, 12:13 PM.Bajaj SuperFE 150 - Forever in my heart

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Thank you all for your input guys on the number plate query.
I have gone for now with the IND plates only as they do look nice also and seems like all new vehicles are going in with the IND ones.
Its just my observation in the past 2 days of riding.
So white fury completed 100 kms yesterday and I am getting an average of approx 25 km per liter due to my sedated riding style and also thanks to bangalore city traffic.
Couple of observations till now :
1) The DRLs seem to automatically go ON and OFF sometimes and today they went completely off and only the lower headlights were ON. I was going through the settings yesterday, so don't know may be I accidentally turned them off or what. But I thought you cant shut off the DRLs at anytime. Or may be its headlight assembly playing games.
2) The chain does make sound when it goes into small potholes like its already loose. This I observed from day 1. Thought may be its new so its supposed to be like this. please correct me If I am wrong.
3)There is some sound coming from below the seat. Seems to be like the tool kit is little bit loose.
Are the above things normal or should I visit the service center to get them looked at.
Also the White Fury doesn't like to be driven at slow speeds at higher gears. Just once or twice I was able to go into 6th gear.
Apart from above things, the bike is drop dead gorgeous and insanely quick and that throttle is really awesome
Ride by wire is blessing. Cant wait to finish the running in period of 1000 kms.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
1st service complete at 830 kms.
Costed Rs1470. They replaced
Engine oil
Oil filter
O ring seal
Chain lubeing.
Also bought orange assist for Rs850. Plan to do 400 km ride to hills in Uttarakhand next weekend.
Might be a placebo effect but finding it to be smoother and more tractable. Power is available more readily with less chances of stalling at lower rpm.

Did you do 1st service at 30 days or 45 days?
I'm asking this as the service centre guy told me 30 days and the manual says 45 days.

Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences
45 days is the right info.. 45 days/1000km whichever earlier iirc. A few yrs back even i had my service at around 40 days without any issues. we used to get service coupons (with no. of days/km intervals mentioned) in the owners manual.. i guess that is not present these days.. but the manual says will hold good, don't worry.Originally posted by sujithbvm View PostCongratulations on your Duke bro.
