  • Re: 2017 Duke 390 Owners Reviews and Experiences

    Hello guys,

I am Senthilkumar, from Chennai . recently bought used Duke 390 Model 2017 just 4500Kms ridden only, for a good deal, had covered approx 1500kms from then. Previously i had Duke 200,bought on first lot 2012 when it got introduced, rode 28000 Kms, Finally i was forced to sell it , due to family pressure, that i was riding fast and they thought it is not appropriate for my age (I'm 47 ) does age really matter?.
I really loved the pocket rocket and enjoyed to the fullest, drove to its maximum limit, no accidents and bike was in absolute condition when i sold it.
so no Bike for 3 years , had to use my Sx4 to commute to office (SAD) , then when i saw the new Duke 390 2017 model on streets zooming past, i felt the desire and urge to have it once again.
infact i wanted to buy the 390 when it got introduced. but strictly got a stern NO from my family.

i used to check OLX for used ones regularly , even though i know, i cannot buy. one such deal was very impressive and decided to visit the seller,
without informing my family, visited and decided on that spot, paid and rode back straight to Service centre in chennai. fearing the repercussions i will have back at home.
vehicle was under warranty and not even 1 year completed , so gave it 3rd service, told them i will take it after 2 days.

this time i was very determined to have the dream bike i wanted to, finally took it home, after big fight and scolding with all the family members, now im happy owner of Duke 390 .

Thats how i ended up in love with the Duke again.

    Coming to my Bike.

Bike Firmware updated to V42 and no complaints so far, twice went for long drive , touched 160, 3 to 4 times to make sure it is in perfect condition
Only complaint is the Coolant level decreases so quickly ( was told by service engineers that this is normal for new duke 390's), and not happy with the DOHC cam noise. really missing the original rotary exhaust beat.

    Wish list
    1. Seriously looking for a Windshield , had modified and fitted Yamaha fazer windshield, and bolted to the number plate , still need set of clamps to make it rigid.
    2. Tank bag VIATERRA Volante.
    3. Frame sliders
    4. good BT set SENA

    Cheers

The coolant should not reduce. If you are facing drastic coolant loss please check with the svc. Primary culprits are water pump seals or head gasket.

KTM has subtly recalled its 2017 Duke 390 model branding it as a “Monsoon Kit Fitment”. If you own the 2017 KTM Duke 390, it is highly advisable to not skip this call from the company if you don’t want to face the above mentioned problems with your bike. The monsoon kit will be fitted to your bikes free of cost and the complete job should not take more than an hour to complete. It is being done to control the headlamp vibrations, change of ECU bracket and rear seat bushings to prevent load on the tail lamp

I would recommend you to go through this news article.

                https://www.rushlane.com/2017-ktm-du...-12276779.html.

A big round of applause to Chirag, our Bhpian, who diligently followed up with the team.

It's great to see the warranty has been extended to 3-years/40k Kms from the 2 years/30k kms for the "first batch" owners.

KTM India has officially declared extended warranty of 1yr/10k kms over default warranty for duke 390s purchased between 1st Jan 2017 to 31st March 2018. Everyone who is qualifying for this will get a warranty card from KTM in next 3 weeks.”
Perhaps KTM does want to keep it hush-hush affair, and not an go mainstream. But nonetheless, KTM has done a brilliant job by yielding to customers' voice which surely and definitely gets them brownie points, not to mention a wilingess to cooperate.

                Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                THE END

Thank you VJ. I am really thankful to you guys for letting me open a protest thread which normally isn't allowed on xbhp. Thanks again

We are happy that a group of 30-40 managed to secure extended warranty for all the 2017 d390 owners. Again I would like to thank KTM India for listening us out and allowing us to have a face to face discussion with KTM India's top officials.

I guess this is the first time in Indian motorcycling history that a manufacturer has extended the warranty for so many users without any additional money. This shows KTM are really determined to increase their user base here in India and with the gesture they have shown, I think we should wish them good luck.

The effort all goes to you fellas, for sticking together as a team and standing for what's imperative. It's also a great gesture of KTM to listen, which truly deserves appreciation from the KTM clan, not because they've given us a niggle-free product, but eager to co-operate, to listen and more importantly to implement the changes which we as users ultimately look for. Truly an appreciative gesture from KTM.

Keep it rocking fellas. Truly proud of you guys.

I heard that instead of cutting the wires or connecting straight to battery if we connected with either of the Auxiliary port then we can intact the warranty, does it true?

                          Thanks in advance
In the Duke series it's not required. On the older 2015 models, we have an accessory outlet back the headlamp unit or below the instrument cluster. One easy way to find whether your bike has an accessory port is to look at the fuse box. If you have Accessories 2 or 1 written, then we have an accessory port. Mind you, do not use more than the recommended AMP rating which is mentioned on the fuse box, else we'll have blown fuses.

Tapping is unnececssary, the accessory port should be under the seat for MY 2017 motorcycles. It's a plug and play if we know where and how to connect without splicing the wires.

                          Cheers!

Yes In 2017 model duke 390 does have two accessories port. As you have said one under the pillion seat and other one beneath the fuel tank. I have used the one under the fuel tank for my aux lights.
