What are you, saying! I hope ODO nowadays can register upto 9 Lakh kms) 9,99,999) and it's 6 digit in numbers.

A TRIP FROM CHENNAI TO DINDUGUL!!!

As I got fed up with the sort of mechanical life, I needed a break from the crowded city and I was looking for a trip. My initial plan to go around Kodai Hills was cancelled due to unavailability of rooms there and the place would have been really crowded.

So me and my biker dude decided to take a trip to Dindugul and explore the hill ranges there. The Kodai Hills is situated exactly opposite to Sirumalai Hill range with a distance of 120+ km. I had no idea about this place and it is not a small hill range either. The slope-y hills and tarmac leads to several other hills nearby.

Location: Located near Dindugul district (>30 kms) with 18 hairpin bends. The altitude is somewhere around 1,500 mts above sea level.

Comig to the trip me and my friend planned to go by my Apache 160 4v. We already had went many places and one sudden twist happened in our tour plan.

First thing was that we planned to visit muyalanagiri in karnataka as it's the one of the top hill stations there. But unfortunately it was dropped because of floods and heavy rains.

*Actually my friend suggested that there were heavy rainfall and bad weather all over the state.

The Route to Muyalanagiri is CHENNAI -VELLORE -BANGALORE - MYSORE - TUMKUR - CHIKMANGALUR.

It's around 600 kms one way. But as said, we changed the destination and somehow finally zeroed in to Sirumalai!!!

Lol as the name suggests the hill range is not small. One can feel that from being there. The only bitter thing is that there's no many shops available and a poor network.

But beyond this, there's a quiet good amount of Resort and stays were available.
The climate was cool and breezy. Even during mid noon we didn't feel any changes in temperature.

Route map :

CHENNAI - TINDIVANAM- TIRUCHY - DINDUGUL.

The total distance is 400+ kms and it's my first one way trip which crossed 500+ kms in a single day.

These were the things which made us enjoyable and unforgettable for the two days.

*The unexpected trek

*Exploring the forest.

Last but not least : My hero of the ride is Apache!!!! Even its bad road or loose gravel or road filled with potholes it's just like having a piece of cake!!!

In a couple of places we thought that the bike won't go or it's risky but it just passed on!
Will attach pics ASAP.

Hi All,

I own Apache 160 4V since May 2018 and done 13k kms on the odo. Have had faced some issues and still continue to face few; Would like to know if others have faced this;
1) Engine over heating - It got reduced once I switched over to Motul
2) Engine Oil Leak - Issue persists and ASC says it could be due to the packing going kaput(Engine heating).
3) Noise at the handle bar/ fork while going over pothole/humps. ASC did rectify it but keeps on occurring again.
4) For some weird reason, i feel the front end of the bike is tad heavy and i find it difficult to do quick maneuvers in the traffic.
5) I feel stock tyres are not upto the mark, no confidence while driving above 70 and even at low speeds too.
6) Rear brakes have spongy feel.

Yes comparing with other bikes Front is heavy !!

Tyres are okay for normal usage but we can't compare it with Pirelli, Michellin!!! It serves the purpose.

1) Check your Carb or Injector setting. Lean mixture can heat up your engine.
As you said engine oil can also be a culprit. Try Motul , shell , liqui moly, Mobil and Castrol engine oils.

2)Motul engine oil can evaporate or burn during combustion. 100 ml of engine oil reduction in 1500 kms is fine. Due to over heating it may vary. Check your engine for any sign of oil leaks. Near the fins if you can find dirt and derbies along with oil mark.
If you can find, change the gaskets.
Also check the drain bolt.

3) Check and tighten forks and cone set.

4) Loose cone set may result in this. Ask TVS service centre to clean the cone set and re lube and tighten it.

5) Check air pressure and do some burn out to shave of outer layer. This makes fresh rubber to get intact with road.

6) Flush your brake system with new fluid. Air is brake lines make spongy effect.

Friends I need a suggestion, I use Apache RTR160 2016 model, in Pune city only. I want to know that for how many kms can Shell Semi Synthetic AX7 engine oil can last. Currently I change this oil within 4000kms.And if I use Shell Full Synthetic oil, then how many kms it will last. I use my bike for Daily 100 kms.
Thank you.

Don't you think that 1.5-2k kms per liter of oil is a very very short interval? How does that interval hold for liquid cooled engines? How do companies come up with recommended oil change intervals like 5-6k kms for air/oil cooled bikes and 10k kms liquid cooled bikes?

Having asked these, I also have to state that I'm a person paranoid with oil changes and I change oil every 2k kms.

I too change oil every 2k kilometers and i use cheap mineral oil rather than expensive oils and having long drain interval.

I believe this article would be enough to explain why I prefer shorter drain intervals;

Dan's Motorcycle " 4-Stroke Oil "

Plus I know of several members here who follow shorter drain intervals and have gone over 100k km's before having their engine opened whereas I do not know of anyone who has maintained 5k+ drain intervals and yet crossed 100k without having the motor rebuilt.

Absolutely, it is cheap insurance to ensure engine lasts longer, esp considering the kind of abuse our motorcycles engines see everyday in traffic conditions or otherwise. 400 rupees per 2000 kms is just 0.2 rupees per km, compare that with 15k + rupees to rebuild the engine!
