Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience
Only at a particular RPM you say? Is that particular RPM between 4~6k RPM?Originally posted by rakeshchn View PostYeah I too suspect something similar as from my repeated inspection this noise will come only at very specific times. That is when riding through the same stretches of road at similar RPMs, and disappears in other places. So the noise is not always present when engine is running. But 100% sure it is from engine and not drive chain, wheels etc.
Taking in for 4th free service in couple of days, will talk to ASC people. But from my past experiences I am not hopeful about them identifying and/or fixing it.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience
Its somewhere between 2~5K RPM, that too not always. Only when climbing inclines I think (in the right gear of course, I am not lugging the engine) , but not 100% sure about this as a few times noise is heard in flat roads as well. After 5K RPM engine has a grunt and power output starts peaking and noise disappears. This engine inherently lacks good bottom end torque, its mid-range is strong and top end is good.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostOnly at a particular RPM you say? 18000 kms doneOriginally posted by Aswinlogi View PostHow much Kms on your ODO, I hope you must be using TVS TRU4 FS oil and I too noticed that the engine oil level got decreased during long rides.
But whatsoever after crossing 10,000 KMS it feels alright. Now I have crossed 14,000 Kms while the last oil change was @9700 Kms. The senior ASC said that the oil drain interval for TRU 4 FS is 6000 Kms.

Loose coneset/T-stem. Get your fork lock nut tightened and get checked it at your SVC, it's usually a five minutes job. Even a local mechanic can do that, they will tighten the fork nut and it should solve the issue.Originally posted by rahul29rk View PostHi everyone
I have an observation, there is occasional KHAT KHAT sound from handle during hard braking & on potholes, what could be the reason. My bike has only 3100 km on odo & this problem occurred from last two weeks.
Thanks
Cheers!

The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

Then I believe it to be resonance vibrations that is causing something loose to rattle.Originally posted by rakeshchn View PostIts somewhere between 2~5K RPM, that too not always. On my P220 the resonance vibes kick in at 4.5~5.5k RPM, in this range irrespective of gear I'm in everything that is even remotely loose starts to rattle, even the RPM needle for that matter.
It would be best to try to figure out what is out of spec and tighten it at the earliest, on my Discover 100 4G was due to one of then fork pinch-bolts coming loose, the spring washer got loose and started to give off a ring at certain speeds, issue dissapeared after setting it to spec.Motorcycling Experience:

Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience
Thanks mate! This is my first 'owned' bike and hence have been concerned about regular maintenance in monsoon.Originally posted by Siby.dj View PostI had ridden it yesterday during the heavy mumbai rains and I didn't face any issues with water. I would recommend inspecting the chain and lube it accordingly. Our bikes are bad for pillions when riding in the rains. They will definitely have mud all over the leg and back even at regular road speeds. Congratulations bro. Welcome to the club.[emoji1]
Thanks Aswin for the overall tips!Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostYes , Eventhough bikes are built to operate under different weathers we should take care of it.
Always remember that parking in open areas during a sunny/rainy day will have adverse effects. Prolonged parking in sunlight may cause exposure to high UV radiations andso the paint would start fade
And similarly parking in rainy places (often) will cause rusting of metal parts and failure of electricals.
*So it's better to find a shelter for parking !!!
And last thing as you've mentioned that the drivechain will also get messed up with rain water and needs Lubing. Normally a well lubed chain can be ridden for more than 500 Kms. Try TVS TRU spray for Lubing (after cleaning the chain), as it's too good .
Will keep it sheltered whenever possible.
Riding in rains today was so much fun, and confident inducing compared to some underpowered bikes and scooters I've ridden.
So do you guys use or recommend using covers for the console/tank lid/pipes 'during the ride in rains'... ever felt necessary for everyday riding?

Watch out for oil slicks during the initial periods and wash your bike regularly always wear a helmet (reputed ones). Remember Riders ride for fun, racer race on track. Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience
Hi everyone , during my recent homecoming ride I did went over a pothole. I don't know what the hell NH department were doing! Eventhough I had sufficient headlight I was failed to see that one!!!
Thank God , nothing happened but I was panic that the front alloy would've got any bend ? (It shouldn't be)
How to check for any bends properly ?
*Since I rode during night time I wasn't able to predict the pothole there (And the Incoming heavy vehicles on the opposite lane were on their damn High beams made blurred my vision !!)

Well took bike in for 4th service today and reported the problem. After careful (?) inspection ASC finds that issue is with silencer and replaced it free of cost under warranty. Thats a 10000 Rs. affair I am told! Anyway good we have warranty for 5 yrs/60K Kms. Initial impression is good, but definitely will need to ride more to find out if the fix worked.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostThen I believe it to be resonance vibrations that is causing something loose to rattle.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 160 4V Ownership Experience
Riding during the night is a risky affair in itself. Sometimes there are high beams from oncoming vehicles, sometimes stray dogs passing your way, sometimes unexpected sudden potholes and sometimes unmarked diversions or speed bumps. Glad you're safe and okay.Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostHi everyone , during my recent homecoming ride I did went over a pothole. I don't know what the hell NH department were doing! First off, are you having any unusual air leaks from the Tyre? If not, there shouldn't be a bend or a crack.
If you do have air leaks, put your bike on center stand and roll the front wheel checking for any undulations or cracks or bulges at the edge of the alloys. Do this in a well lit area or have ample source of light while doing this. Check again and again, just to be sure.
If you find any bends or cracks, go for a replacement. There's also shops that can repair small bends but i wouldn't suggest that.Honda Dio [2010 - 2011]

As long as you didn't brake all would be fine.Originally posted by Aswinlogi View PostThank God , nothing happened but I was panic that the front alloy would've got any bend ? (It shouldn't be)
I never brake for or swerve to avoid potholes, simply lift your ass off the seat with knees still bent and let the suspension take care of the rest.
The Alloys and Chassis only crack/twist when you brake hard and limit suspension travel.Motorcycling Experience:

Yes, totally agreed with you !!! I too lift my ass whenever needed and it works fine.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostAs long as you didn't brake all would be fine.

For instance : I ride to my office daily by taking the shortcut to the main road which has a damn 8 speedbrakers and few pot-hole patches. I accustomed to it and I ride at 30-40 kmph by lifting myself more often like a dirt racer [emoji16].
Because there's no other way ,if I choose the main route it will take 20~30 mins (more than 10 mins in signal itself) while through the shortcut it can be passed by not more than 10 mins !!!
