Whatever engine oil I use I try to get my bike serviced every 2000 kms. At the most 2500 kms. So that's the drain interval I follow. Costs about 340 Rs. Which I feel is almost similar to other engine oils like shell ax7.
My experience has been very good so far. The engine is butter smooth, the gear shifts are smoother and considerably less engine heating. But my experiences with shell Rimula r4 has been only on the Karizma R. I can't comment it might be the same for Rtr's. But my assumption is even the Rtr's being air cooled the experiences might be the same. I have asked my friend to try it on his Rtr this month. I will personally ride his Rtr to see if I feel it is good. I will post my experiences but it might happen after 18th of this month.

Does anyone have a PDF copy of the RTR 180 service manual and parts catalogue. Also need the service manual and parts catalogue of the original Fiero. I found this blog by one of our members, Garry_Menace but don't know how to extract and save the PDF document.

Had already done that. However downloading and printing is disabled. Anyway I followed the tedious process of taking a screenshot of every page and then converting to PDF. Resolution is not very good but serves the purpose. If anyone is interested in a copy, PM me your e-mail id and I'll send it to you.

I have few queries,
1. ASC people have changed oil to FS after first service, can I tell them to stick to mineral oil till 5K kms?
2. Have completed around 800km as of now, so after 1000km can I ride bike at higher speeds( 70-80kmph)?
3. During afternoon I find engine and gearshifts to be rough when compared to morning, is it normal?

Shell Rimula R4:
Cost - ~340/Litre
Drain intervals - 1800ish in stop go traffic (or very hot summers) and up to 2300 km in normal traffic or winters. Ballpark is 2000 km.

I would attribute a little amount of credit to HDEO for my bike's well being.
~92000 km done out of which 65000+ has been done with Rimula. My bike is still on stock internals. Bore, piston etc - all stock!

It however, reduces the FE by a digit or 2.

Even my experience was positive with Rimula R3x, which I have mentioned somewhere in this thread. Only problem I faced was availability of R4 & R3X. On my RTR 180 the engine felt really smooth on cruising at 80-85kmph. I felt the oil performed great on highway.

1. There is no harm is running with FS oil. But in my opinion a 40 grade oil is best suited for the Rtr's. Mineral oils might not help with the heating issue in stop and go traffic. But it works like charm in colder conditions.
2. Stick to sane riding during the run in up until 2000 kms at least. Occasionally increase the rpm gradually till about 7000 but not for more than 10-15 seconds.
3. That's fine owing to colder temperatures in the morning. And the summer heat doesn't help with smoother gear shifts in the afternoons. The Fs oil being thicker in grade might be the reason. Again once the run in is complete all these should gradually disappear as the engine internals would have properly mated. As far I am concerned there is no issues to be concerned. Just have patience and enjoy the ride.

I totally agree to the above. My Karizma has been running with the Rimula oils for the last 9000 kms or so. The bike is much smoother than most of the other Karizma in the Bangalore chapter of Karizma Bikers club. Now I have your's and Psr sir's words to uphold my decision to stick to these oils. I didn't know that it affects the FE. I get only about 30-31 kmpl in city and about 34-38 in the highways. I shall try to meet you when I am back in Bangalore on 17th of this month.

I believe the R2 and R4 are better than R3. My bike just didn't like the R3 much. So if R4 is out of stock then I will go for R2. Yeah I agree that R4 is sometimes difficult to get a hold of.

pranav: kindly go through the previous pages. I am sure you will get your answer in there. Most of the discussion is on engine oils and enough has been talked about.
And I believe there is nothing called as high speed cruise. It is either cruising at moderate speeds or riding in excess speeds. Any engine oil won't be of help when engine is subjected to excessive speeds - courtesy Rtr being air cooled. So anything higher than 40 grade or FS oils is just being fancy in my opinion. There is no real benefit but rather a compromise for sluggish performance, harder gear and bad cold starts. Shell Ax7 is good enough. But if you still want better then try the Shell Rimula HDEO oils (R2, R3 or R4). Also others have suggested couple to try out. Experiment with couple of oils mentioned and stick to the one which gives you the better feel in terms of refinement, performance and smoothness.

Hi,
I want to change the front tyre of my RTR 160 (2013). I am considering Zapper FY1, FY2 and FX1. FY1 is available in 90/80 but other two are available in 100/80 only.
Which of them is best wrt dry/wet grip and cornering stability? Will be doing monsoon rides in Sahyadris.
What's the pros/cons of upsizing?
