i guess after a 300+ ride..wtht much of braking..the brake pads get cool...and the disc brakes works best whn the pads are at their optimum temperature...thats the reason why it acts after the last few degrees of lever play....coz by that time the pads gets to their optimum temperature due 2 friction wid the discs...i aslo faced the same problem...so cldnt figure it out initially....until i found that if i am using my discs regularly..then they work fine coz the brake pads are near 2 their operating tempr...

so wat i do is...whn i get out wid my byk at the start of the day..i intentionally do some hard braking..so as to get some tempr 2 the brake pads...try it out i hope it will sort it out..

But ya i agree one need to be little experienced for that.
That's what I meant .. not everybody may be able figure out the state of tune by the exhaust note or throttle response.

If the posts are on the same page I reply to them with multiquote. Using multiquote makes sense to me if you're replying to similar posts and the ones I replied to were separate posts on different pages and weren't related in any way. I prefer to keep it that way.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Buddy the pads work the best when they are cool and a quick blast of air (read 1 km) is enough for the pads to get cool and perform at their best.

+1 for that. The brakes get pretty hot and to prevent fading they need to be cooled instead of the other way round, in fact TVS claims it uses petaled discs because it aids in faster heat dissipation. The brakes do have an optimum temperature which is somewhat higher than the ambient temperature but stainless steel discs have a pretty low operating temperature and easily reach that temperature when you apply the brakes.

@ Lijok: compare the temperatures of the disc when you get back from a long ride and after a normal city ride, if the disc feels hotter after a long ride then what you have is a case of brake fade. You have to figure out a way of cooling it but please don't use water the sudden cooling can warp the disc. Some people have the habit of pressing the brake lever a bit even after they have slowed down the bike to the desired speed .. do you by any chance have that habit? Do you always use the brakes and only the brakes to slow down the bike?

                    • Changed my RTR's muffler a few days back!

The bike sounds more gruntier now!
Seems like TVS guys replaced it with Fi's!

Braking is another issue I am not happy with these days.Brakes feel hard and squeal every time.
Even though many magazines and experts have praised RTR's brakes many points ahead of Yamaha's,I still feel R15's brakes are way too good compared to RTR.They stop at place, feels soft not spongy and there is hardly any moment when the pillion falls onto your back.Unlike in the case of RTR where pillion kicks in your asses every time you brake hard!
If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

                        There's no muffer in 4 stroke's exhaust.

Hard braking will make your pillions land on you, right from R1's to the disc clad discover.

Maybe it doesn't go well with the RTR but I am skeptical whether it's not used for any 4-stroke engine...
Heard this word zillion times from Auto-experts and magazines,at least in context to FZ! which is a 4-stroke,I guess!
Muffler as far as I know are to cancel out the noise!

You seem to be taking things very seriously.
I asked why does RTR's brake feel spongy and hard as compared to R15's?
