My eyes are towards the RTR 180
But people are claiming that the RTR Engine will loose its power in 2 years and bike will not feel the same and will not give the same mileage and aggressiveness,
But i know for a fact that this will be the case for all 4 stroke engines - but still i have a little bit of a doubt, because the bike im gonna purchase should at least run good for another 6-7 years of time.
I know the mileage factor and pathetic tvs service, But all i wanna know is the RTR 180 worth the Price
Because the Tag line is "Scaringly Fast but what i think is that it is Scaringly Costly".
I would really like to meet and see on what basis they can "claim" so I own this machine since 7th Feb., 2010 and I've felt no decrease in either the power or mileage. I just hope you are not talking about the statements given by some "the-BRAND-which-must-not-be-named" fanboys
To be totally frank, it is one of the most robust engine available in our market right now, so you can believe on its durability with eyes closed. The engine internals and the clutch are meant for the abuse you can offer to it (obviously to the limit till you ride it thinking you'll need to ride it tomorrow also). And I am not saying all this because I own it or I am an RTR fanboy I very happily accept the fact that the engine is not par on the smoothness front. The vibes are something which can bug people who love smooth engines like Honda and some of Yamaha, also that R15 is the most technologically advanced bike in our market.

    • Got My New "BLACK SWAN" The Apache RTR 180

      Hi Everybody,

Got my Apache RTR 180 on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi. It is in All Black edition and I named it "" BLACK SWAN"".

The Apache RTR 180(2012) has got the beast look and I like the look of the new one.. Although people say that the older apache looked great..

Although it is very new to me and merely 100km run.. but the feel of the bike has made me proud. I like the sound of the engine very much. I also own a CBZ- Xtreme 2007 Model and it is also a very good bike.. But the Apache has got a raw power which one can feel.

I will try to explain all the pros and cons of the bike as noticed by far..

      PROS:

Apache RTR 180 has got power and its delivery is very crisp and smooth.

There are dual discs which do their job not only well but excellent, especially the front disc.

The Hyper edge graphics look very good on the bike.

The digital console is now much more advanced it produces a welcome note as 5..4..3..2..1..GO whenever you turn on the key.

TVS engineers has done great work on the vibrations issue and one cannot find vibrations on the 2012 version.

All round this bike is a good package for all the riders wanting some raw power.

TVS has also worked on the comfort front and the rider position is much more comfortable than the previous model.

      CONS:

The beast eyed LEDs r on even at day time and even worse the tvs guys have connected the pilot lamps with the leds and hence they r also on even during the day.. and there are no switch to turn them off. The three position headlamp switch is a complete waste as the switch does not turn off the pilots. I dont find the utility for the middle position if they r only meant for to turn on/off the headlight.( Hope the TVS guys are listening to this and they will surely work on this issue).

The fuel consumption is more only giving me 15 kmpl but it may increse as the bike is new and in run-in condition.

The footpegs r little bit uncomfortable , though it may be only bothering me.

Engine heating is there. It is getting heated up very quickly. I do not know whether the engine gets heated up this bad as i own a CBZ-Xtreme and it did'nt get heated up this much when in run-in period. Today i found out that the bike is running low on engine oil. Should I pour some engine oil or should I change it. The TVS guys provided with 10W30. Click image for larger version

Though it has some cons a rider will feel very much fast while riding this machine.. and it is a great 180cc mill. It will never let you down in throttle response thats why the name RTR( Rapid Throttle Response) aptly suits the Apache 180.

Those guys who r waiting to put their hands on this machine are advised by me to go ahead and trust this machine it is a great package.. I am not telling from my one day experience of ownership of the apache but telling you from my riding experience over the years..

Lastly a great job done by TVS Racing team ... HATS off! guys.

Wait for more reviews as I cover more kms on my Black Swan.. Till then,

      Happy Rolling... Be Safe..

Bro the middle position turns on the tail light, its not useless at all. In normal scenario pilot lamps and tail light lits up while putting lighting switch in middle position but here pilot lamps are DRLs so only tail lits up.

            • for those who are facing vibrations in their bikes specially in footpegs and handle bars; you can try what i did in my 2008 rtr.

for foot pegs: take the inner tube of a cycle, cut it in small section 2"x2", nake a small hole in the middle. place them in between the foorpeg and its holder and put the holding pin back in.

for handle bar: get a heavy handle bar weight like that of a pulsar.

this will dampen the vibration by atleast 40%

No waiting period. Book the bike on a working day and get it the next working day. OTR 98k. But the showroom people will definitely con you into spending at least 1lakh. Where do you live?

The very point of "beast eyes" is to have them turned on whenever you ride! The center button turns on tail lights and console backlights!! Its not useless!

The footpegs r little bit uncomfortable , though it may be only bothering me.

                  • Hello friends, hows everyone doing here.Been posting after a long time, getting to see a lot of new enthusiastic members here, good.Contrary, the old members are in hibernation mode I guess.
                    Update about the bike@14k kms(yes I don't ride much)
Since two-three months,I have been facing the following peculiar issue. The engine used to make knocking like sound after getting heated up.The noise used to persist only at 4k rpm or while giving sudden acceleration.Showed it to a few mechanics but none of them were able to recognize the problem.Couple of days back visited Priyanka TVS,Panvel, everything was scrutinized from head to toe, head, valves, piston, block -Found OK.It took 6 days for them to rectify and the culprit was crankshaft. There was excessive play at the lower end of the connecting rod. Now,after replacing the crankshaft, the unusual noise has vanished and bike is running as it was earlier, though the engine noise have changed a little(kind of like a new engine). The cause of excessive play in con rod is unknown. The service at Priyanka TVS was good as expected. The work manager there,Subodh Jain is a friendly guy,he looked into the problem personally. Also told him about xbhp and stuff, checked the site and was might impressed he was with the DIY stuffs on RTR180.
                    Crankshaft replaced-Rs.2770(old mrp),new mrp is app. Rs.3000.
                    Choke cable replaced Rs.90

                    Attaching pics of crank below..

Done up with a few things too,
1)Replaced the oil with Shell Advance Ultra 10W40,superb oil I must say.Quick difference felt, the throttle response is crispier than before(Previous oil-Motul 3100T 20w40) and the engine begs to rev. Also,I would like to mention one thing, after experimenting with various grades of oils 15W50,10W40's,20W40's,found that 10W40 is the BEST suitable grade for our RTR,even better than 20W40,at least this is what I felt. You will surely miss the racing throttle response with the other grades,I bet.
2)Front,rear Brake pads replaced.Revised MRP is Rs.256 as opposed to app.Rs.450 for rear pads.
3)Both Brake bleeding done, topped up with DOT4 as usual.
4)SAI unit cleaned. There was carbon accumulated inside the reservior.
5)Valve clearance set to co. specs(SVC fellas tightened the tappets when they opened up the head).
                    6)Carb diaphragm replaced.Cost Rs.500
                    7)Carb cleaning and tuning done.
8)Speedometer cover replaced(Previous one was broken near the key area) Cost-Rs.211
9)Lock unit dismantled, cleaned and greased(It used to make 'trr''trr' kinda noise around 4k rpm,now its vanished)
                    10)Handlebar rubber damping done.
                    11)Chain setting and cleaning,lubrication done.
                    12)Air filter cleaning done.
All the above things were done at home. Now,bike is running as good as new.

                    SAI unit

P.S.-The newly designed website now takes some time for the pictures to upload.I guess its due to Auto-Save feature.

Better get the oil changed as its a new bike.Plus do get the bike checked for any leakage at the SVC as the oil level going low in new bike is strange.Do proper running-in as mentioned in the few posts back.
                    Happy RTRing!

Guys, has anyone messed around with the rear suspension settings? Turned them to hard or soft? Any differences ib handling/stability?
Also... Is there a guide somewhere about cleaning and lubing the chain?

Could you explain a bit about the SAI unit? One of the members asked about it a couple of times. Me too interested.
The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.
