One of the serniors said to use engine compression braking during break in. I dont understand.. Isn't that supposed to be harmful?? Please shed some light on this guys..
Also, how does one do extended break in? I don't understand why someone should do extended break I in.

First of all what is Engine Brake-"IN" (not Braking) The new engine's first hundred/thousand kilometer has major impact on engine's life over a longer period of time, its occur to set piston ring into cylinder so that it will consume less amount of oil (after it becomes old, many thousands kilometers), and your mileage, engine's through put & smoothness like things also depends on engine brake in , so longer the brake in period positive the result will be....

And I guess compression brake do occur in RTR? (Senior's light here) :O

And Engine Braking & Compression Braking is very different too

I think I was the one who mentioned the use of ENGINE BRAKING (in my tips to reduce viberation) while run-in which will help to smoothen up the engine and reduce viberation. Engine braking and compression braking are 2 different things. Compression braking does not happen in a petrol engine. Engine braking is when you close the throttle the air flow to the intake manifold is greatly restricted, which creates vaccum and helps to reduce speed.

            • Hey Guys i've been facing a problem with my RTR since the month i bought it. It's been 7 months and 9k on oddo. The problem is that whenever i apply my rear breaks there is a loud sound. The sound is similar to the sound which comes from cycles breaks. Ive been complaining about it since day 1 to my service center and their reply was and is still the same. All they do is remove the brake pads clean it and then puts it back again. The sounds is still there. I have also replaced the wire clamps as i was advised on the thread. It's been a long time. Ill be showing my bike again this weekend and if still the problem continues, i am planning to send a mail to TVS. Is there any suggestions Guys ?

Anything which i should ? Should i change my brake pads ?

I thot engine compression braking is when you downshift to a lower gear to get the speed down. Thank God I didn't try it. So engine braking is just letting go of the throttle. Thanks guys.. N nobody replied to my query about rear suspensions.. Please do reply..

You are still getting it wrong, what we do in our bikes is called ENGINE BRAKING its not compression braking.

                      • Hey guys, I have an Apache RTR 180 and when i took it for service at the SVC, they asked me to change the rear disk for 750 bucks and if i don't do so it may break in near future which will cost me 1500 bucks. My bike is 2 years old and has barely done 6000 kms. also when i inspected both the disks'(front and rear) surface, i found that the rear disk had a rough granular surface compared to the front disk's smooth surface. Is there a problem with the rear disk?

Could you explain a bit about the SAI unit? One of the members asked about it a couple of times. Me too interested.
Secondary air injection is used during the engine warm up to help burn the rich air-to-fuel mixture needed to run a cold engine. It is achieved by taking advantage of the negative pressure pulses in the exhaust system when the engine is idling. There is a check valve assembly below the tank containing a small diaphragm inside it.The check valve is a non return valve which draws air from the air filter and pumps this fresh air into the exhaust port, generally, near the exhaust valves by utilizing the pulsing of the exhaust from the piston firings to suck the fresh air into the exhaust system. This oxygen rich fresh air helps burn excessive left over hydro carbons that remain in the exhaust gases during start up.The opening of the diaphragm depends on the intake manifold pressure, you can see the grey colored pipe going from the inlet manifold to the check valve. When you remove this pipe from the intake manifold with the engine running at idle, you will see the rpm goes down and the engine starts to hunt. The extra oxygen injected into the exhaust stream helps the catalytic converter reach operating temperature more quickly during warm-up periods, thus maintaining the emission at a suitable level. The catalytic converter must heat to operating temperature to work properly, thats the whole purpose of the SAI unit. Most of the bikes today are equipped with this,I can recall even my HH Passion had it.

First of all check the brake pads and rear disc.If they are good, remove the rear caliper assembly & brake cam, apply sufficient amount of grease on the caliper pins and also on the slots where the caliper pin fit.You can apply some grease on the back side of the brake pads too for peace of mind. This should eliminate that noise.

The mechanic told me the plate is worn out, disk plate gone in 6000 kms.? Is he trying to rip me off? Because i went to that service center first time.

                                Here is my Issue
:- After few kilometers when engine heats up bike feels very stress in between 3-7k rpm range, like I am riding at 9000rpm & i gets feeling like i am runing one gear short in each cog :O, gear shifting has become very rough too (in that time), very scratchy noise from engine also throttle seems to be bit tough need to tiwst bitt harder to move vehicle (in that rpm range) but it vanishes when I ride my bike above 100kp/h for 1-2 minute & then it becomes smoother as ever good throttle response & the tune exhaust note ...
