After going through this thread for while, I found following tyres best suited most of 180 owners:

Pirelli MT75 57P Tubeless for the rear
MRF Zapper FY1 (R15 v2's stock tyre) front
        zapper vyde 120/80 17" (rear)

Hello, I plan to purchase the 180 abs, Last i hear that the bike was notorious for vibrations, has anything changed with the new models?

Further is there a set of things that I should look out for? what I hear is that it is a pathetic motorcycle, with the quality of a Bajaj and the costs of a Japanese. I would not know because I have not owned the aboe model.

Oh boy!!!! Your statements make me laugh. Either somebody has brainwashed you or you are just plain innocent.

Yes the RTR's are known for vibrations, but they have improved over time and with the 200 and rr310 they are almost negligible. But the vibrations are not like how you have expressed here. You can deal with vibrations. So i am guessing you like smooth and refined machines and abs is a criteria too.

And i am sorry, Bajaj and Tvs have improved quality wise and have been producing reliable machines. The only area which japanese bikes excel in my opinion is refinement. Cost wise all the manufacturers have competitive pricing under 200cc category. My suggestion is test ride a bike which you like than just focus on negative aspects. See what you like and which suits you the best and then divulge in the pros and cons of each bike you test rode or liked. Not a single bike in this country would be perfect if you look at it properly. That is why we have different segments and different offerings from each manufacturing house. Even after selling my beloved Rtr years back, i would buy back the machine simply for it sheer fun and peppy nature. So, all the best in finding the motorcycle that you deserve.
Everybody has their own version of TRUTH!!!!!!

Hello! If you have got all those negative statements, then I wonder why you stated that you plan to purchase 180 ABS . I recently bought RTR 180 and 900km on odo. I really enjoy the bike as handling + looks are way too close to my heart

Man!!! These worries and doubts will be over once you get on the seat and start the engine. She roars like a beast and looks like an angel. Yes she vibrates but it wont matter when you rides under 110 kmph. Trying Motul, castrol , shell (am using motul) engine oil will reduce the vibrations. Nothing can compare the feel RTR gives. RTR have lot of power i mean usable power especially on City riding, overtaking, hill riding etc. The bike will make you feel alive so much. The qulaity is good. The engine is reliable. I have completed 650 kms in a single day.No issues faced. After 47,500 + kms and 2+ years i still love my RTR. Everybody was against RTR when i bought her. But i never regret my decision. The bike is so alive.

Test ride it and take a good choice. You can also go for 200 for less vibrations and more power. ABS version has been launched.

Its really funny, how you specify cost of a Japanese. None of the Japanese bikes costs 1.1l for 180cc abs.
I own an Apache RTR 160 since 1.5yrs and 16k kms, even I'm happy about the power. But, yes there are vibes, but it's not that irritating kinda vibrations, you'll get used to it easily(i.e if it suits your style, but also I've never heard anyone complain on how it looks or feels to ride - no one!)

And also guys, have anyone changed their chain sprocket set to Rolon O-ring chain. Any comments on it? I guess you can say it as an upgrade from stock. Please leave an opinion about that Rolon O-ring chain.

You seem to be a reasonable type, on the highway distance riding was the wind blast really bad? The issues that I hear is because of its short stroke nature, the rocker arm, connecting rod are the first ones to go. What about oil leakage? the head gaskets seem to be ones to suffer a lot.

Tried the Gixxer SF 150? blows all indian bikes up to the 220 cc category, and costs less.

I beg to differ. I have ridden the sf150 , rtr 180, rtr200. For long distance, the sf is always good. But, it cannot compete with the power. Sf is like a tamed horse, while the 180 is a wild one. The acceleration is way too good in any of the rtrs.
I agree the refinement is not much though.
Well, they are ready to launch the new 160, and may be in the coming year new 180 too (i hope so).
But, if there was no price constraints and was looking for refinement, i would buy the sf(i guess). But if u want a higher cc...well idk!

P.S: for the rtrs, just rev it above 6k rpm, there lies the true power, and you get punch, because the peak torque comes at 6k rpm.

                      Well, opinions vary!

Wind blast is not so bad. Usually am running 70-95 kmph range.. 100+ is occasionally.. never experienced any oil leaks till..

I was same dilemma with same messages around my circle when I wanted to buy the motorcycle.
First thing first, if you can afford RTR200 ABS go for it.

                          - RTR 160/180 both have vibrations, they are annoying around 4.5k rpm to 5.5k rpm. After that its negligible. Speed in those vib-range are around 45-65kmph. So this should answer I hope.
                          - Whoever says RTR is pathetic sure hates the bike or never driven it. Quality wise its way too good. Hornet which costs more than RTR180ABS gets switchgear like Shine
                          - I don't want to compare any Bajaj bikes to RTR because they both have different DNA. Quality wise both are close I feel or slight TVS advantage.
                          - No issues with engine whatsoever. She will be happy as long as you service her every 2.5-3k kms.

If you are in Bangalore or South India, there is no problem for parts all around the year. Service costs 700-2k depending on requirement. Spare parts are not that costly, they're on par.
Be default you get stock Remora tyres which is good enough for regular use and easily serves 25k kms. It doesn't do moonwalk in wet roads like people say outside.
Mileage for RTR160 is around 48-56kmpl and RTR180 is around 40-45kmpl.

On side note if you opt RTR, like every other manufacturer find a good service center the moment you feel unsatisfied at the current one. And be honest while company asks for ratings, helps them and you. Makesure you make those people write your problems when giving for service. They tend to write most things in generic.

It took me 8 test rides including Gixxer and Hornet to buy RTR160 which is still happy at 25k kms. I might be bias since I own RTR160 but trust me, the feel you get when you throttle every day is only in RTR.

                          ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Well since RTR160 thread is no more active, here is my update at 25000 kms in 1.5years.

                          - Changing both tyres to MRF Zapper FS 90/90-17 and MRF Masseter 120/80-17. Both costed me 4950 together.
                          - Mileage is ranging between 48kmpl and 56kmpl
                          - Trying Motul 7100 10w40 for first time. So far bike has only used TVS Tru4 premium.
                          - Vibs are same from day1

Annoying things from past few services
                          - Handle bar tends to add pressure to right hand after 1.5k kms and i have to get them set at service centre every time.
                          - Small buzzing started in head area which is audible from 45-65kmph.

due for service tomorrow since she awaits a huge solo trip in 5 days, hope to get these fixed and get it thoroughly checked..

Hm, thank you, problem is that I would be selling my current KA bike and was thinking of switching to something which is more common in the back waters of my home town. But thanks for the word, appreciate it.

Guys my RTR 180 rear disc is giving a squeaking noise and day by day it is increasing. Any idea how long I can drive with this noise or will it damage the disc assembly ?.

I tried to clean with cloth. Yet to try to pump water in it as it was suggested way back in the thread. Any better or permanent solution for this. I don't find time to go to SVC and those guy's terrible response making me to do it myself. Please suggest !
