Just to get more power

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Just filter wont give you any power increase plus it comes with its own complications. Do the research

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

1. Horrible stock tires.
2. Slightly cramped seating for taller riders.
Some stuff that are not specifically a problem with the bike itself, rather to do with the poor service:
3. Lazy mechanics will systematically forget to do little checks that will help immensely.
4. Spare parts are oh-so-hard to source.
5. If something goes wrong with the engine, unless you find a good mechanic, you will have chronic problems with it.
6. The vibrations will loosen a lot of screws. If not given attention it will lead to parts falling out (bar end weights, loose mirrors, etc)

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

They are horrible in wet conditions, but I felt they are fine in dry conditions. Yes im a spirited rider. Its more about knowing your tires better and handling the braking situation a bit more pro-actively. I mean on the best tires you have the advantage of braking late but on TVS tires its high risk to do that.

Yeah I did feel the same when I saw some tall riders on RTR. Im 5 foot 6 inches & I felt it perfect.

The SVC problem is there in every brands. My brother had a honda bike & I felt their service was much worse than ours. But then its all about finding the right person in the SVC (lead mechanic) & having a friendly relation with him which will definetly help.

I'm not sure about this. I would say its partially correct. But thats the same for every brand. I felt the basic spare parts like sprockets, bulbs etc are easily available while some parts like front mudguards, headlamp assembly etc which are rarely used, are not readily available. They dont keep stocks of these unless they are sure a customer requires it. This is mainly because not all customers will buy this every year. Normally what I do is, I contact them on phone regarding the stock availability & if not there I ask them to acquire it. If you are unknown person you will have to go there in person to get them part ordered. Thats where having a friendly person helps you in situations like these.

Well it can be true if the SVC guys are not well knowledgeable guys. But being an Indian bike I dont think finding a good mechanic will be that tough, but again it depends on the location where we stay.

I dont think this is true. And if it has happened to your bike then the SVC guys are the culprit. Probably you will have to tell them to tighten the bolts explicitly if they dont do it implicitly. Mine is a four year old bike & I felt our RTR's are much better than the honda's when it comes to side panels. I was literally hit by car on the road & other than a slightly bent crash guard & broken mirrors everything was intact. Even the rear indicators which also hit the ground had a small bent & nothing else. This happened 2 years ago & its still having no issues. The honda's on the other side have a good engine, thats it & everything stops there. Rest everything is crap. My brothers bike when it went on a pothole his headlamp assembly completely broke & was hanging. Also the indicators parts always becomes loose and starts hanging around.
Well my perceptions are all based on older RTR's, mine being RTR-hyperedge. I dont know the build condition of the current crops. But I hope it should be fine & they wont do the suzuki maruti strategy of using cheap metals in newer ones for cost cutting.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Overall build of the bike is very good. I do not disagree. But problems caused by the heights of SVC incompetency are just plain terrible. I have been facing this first hand for the duration of my ownership of my bike. It is driving me insane. I am a neat freak and a little "OCD" about my stuff and the SVC guys do not inspire even a little confidence in me. They are all smiles and empty promises.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

I completed 750 km in first month. First servicing done at 570km. I had already changed oil once at 100km as I did run in the hard way. So this was second oil change. Did not notice any difference after the service, in running of bike. Fuel economy was 38km/lit before servicing. It is 42 km/lit after first servicing. Mixed riding conditions, never on highway but in city traffic as well as on some not so crowded roads. I am yet to red-line the bike. Never tried till now to accelerate hard (0-60 time as indicated by console is 8.9 sec).

Regarding tyres, I used RTR 160 for 10000 km. No punctures. I never had skidding/locking of brakes, may be because of my riding style (well, I regularly used to cross 90kmph on RTR 160 but I rarely brake at the last moment. I do not try to lean too much). I do not cross 50kmph if the road is slippery eg after light drizzle, but heavy rain with full wet road is not an issue. Now I am on Remora tyres and even on them its difficult to activate ABS unless you are on gravel, I mean even on hard braking, on dry surface the bike stops without any fuss. So I feel that TVS tyres may not be as great as some other tyres but they are better that what picture is created about them, definitely so for day to day use. May be critics are correct when it comes to corner carving or street racing

I hardly needed any spare parts on RTR 160. Needed to change front brake caliper once due to some odd sound that could not be diagnosed. That was readily available and was changed under warranty.

One difference I noticed between 160 and 180. Both front and rear wheels of 160 did not rotate that freely even when brakes were not applied. The brake pads used to rub even when brakes were not applied. Even with that I used to get average of 45kmpl and max speed 110kmph. I did a lot of reading and spoke to few people and they all told me that it is a common occurance and not an issue as such. Somehow, on RTR 180, both wheels rotate absolutely freely when brake not applied. Braking efficiency seems to be same.

P.S
1)I get some popping sound from exhaust of RTR 180 while decelerating( was there on 160 as well). Occasionally I get it during gear shifts too. While I like the sound (something similar to the sound that race cars make while decelerating), I would like to know if this is normal or no.

2)Any feedback on Viaterra products? I am looking for saddle bags but not the CLAW. The other ones that come only on sides and still allow pillion rider. How is Cramster Colt?

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

There is a thread in one of the sub forums about this very query. I think Aargee was the one who reviewed the saddle bags. AFAIK, the carmasters are not as great as the viaterra products. Even the viaterra saddle bags that allow pillions are supposedly the best in quality and most bang for buck. Rynox makes premium bags and charges a premium for it. I am yet to buy a saddle bag so everything I'm saying is hearsay. Go check out the thread yourself!

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Hi Guys,

Just came back from a 40 km early morning ride (actually a practice ride). My first long distance ride on my bike
And thanks to you guys, my riding has become better. I am now up-shifting gears at 4K-3.5K and downshifting below 3K. Up-shifting has become a lot smoother but getting a little jerk while down-shifting. Guess I need to practice more. But the one thing which I am really happy about is the braking, the brakes are really great and progressive. Has a great feel to it.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Hi Andy!
Good to know that you are starting to learn smooth shifting! Practice more and do keep your eyes on the road and don't concentrate too much on tacho.
By practice you'll know when to shift gears just by listening to the sound of the engine.
She looks beautiful by the way!
All the best!
Ride safe

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Thanks sanjaynk15;
Guess I need to practice more to get the hang of proper shifting and braking.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Guys looks like an oil leak from cylinder head! what can i do about this??

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

Clean the area to remove oil and find the source of leak. Based on observations alone one can remedy it. Sometimes, simple o ring issue can cause oil leak..

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180

It's a leak from cylinder head rubber seal( the round one). I too had this at around 10k kms on odo and after I had run the bike nonstop for around 4 hours. This problem comes early in lifecycle after vehicle is run consistently with engine heating up and remaining in this phase for longer times. You need not worry just contact your mechanic he will replace this seal. This costs at around 56 rs but the tank needs to be removed and head too so labour will be at around 300 rs. Just take care that after every thing is set you get the flywheel aligned again properly to avoid any misfiring issues due to bad timing setting.

More such rides...really excited from now just to hear that[emoji1] [emoji4]
