I checked for anything loose on the outside & everything looks fine. I doubt that the sound is coming from inside the engine. Have to take it to svc yet. Any of you have noticed anything like this before? My bike has done 6.6k kms. Everything is in stock condition, even the oil is TVS Tru4
I think i had the same problem with my bike. I felt it more when the engine decelerated through 4.5-4.0K Rpm. And this sound started after riding for some time, that is after the engine heats up. I tried a lot of stuff, and finally it vanished after the engine foundation bolts got tightened. The SVC did the job, local Mech could not find the cause. Do keep us posted.

I'am one of the users of Joel's tuned FFE for RTR 180. Bought it in Oct 2011.
The thing weighs around 3kg only. Plug and Play, no carb tuning required. The already ballistic mid range grunt gets a genuine bump. Ride-ability is increased, especially inside city. Sounds very good and loud. Just bolt the dB cutter for turning the volume down. FE does not get reduced if ridden sanely. Finally, it's your wish to go for it, or not.

The Apache is ever willing to red line each cog, but the Rider ain't. Enjoy RTR, Safely. Period.

Thanks a lot. I am having exactly same problem, more noticeable when you decelerate and also after engine is heated up. I will get those bolts tightened and see what happens . Also regarding Joel's FFE, how much did it cost?? I too would to like to get it, but I am thinking it will void the warranty if i get it now (just 6.6k kms done).

          • a late update guy's.
Clutch cable broke on 24/01 while on my way to office. Had to push the bike to the svc. Couple of days back before it broke with a 'tik' sound, there was too much free play with the lever.

            Odo reading on 24th - 13,072
            Clutch cable (N9170250) - 126
            Labour - 22

Total invoice amount 148 INR inc of taxes.

The good thing is that now it feels nice with the lever action and gears engage more smoothly.

Yes it will void the warranty. Even I'm planning to change once I cross the warranty period. If you are in bangalore you can meet him in person. Me & my friend met him in person & joel explained us what all mods can be done & the power gains you will get. Actually my friend whose is Apache FI has crossed 50k kms. He will be doing the mods shortly.

Thanks for updating buddy.I am thinking of switching to Motul 3000T 20W40 mineral as the 10W40 grade will take more time to arrive.

Regular cleaning/oiling of clutch cable and choke cable makes the operation more smoother as well as prevents it from rusting.

Yes, the Motul 3000 4T Plus W40 will be more than enough till you get the W40 grade of 5100 4T.
And thanks for the advice regarding Clutch/Choke cable maintenance. Will try to do that from now on.

Sometimes, the bike fails to start, no matter how much you press the electric start button or use the kick. Then, only after 50-60 kicks, does the bike start. This occurs randomly and not because of the cold weather. It first happened when I had gone to Mahableshwar on the bike, took me about 20 minutes of kicking to start it. On coming back, I took it to the mechanic and he said, "Spark plug se engine spark catch nahi kar raha hai (The spark plug is not delivering current from the ignition to the combustion chamber)". After he removed the carbon deposited on the spark plug, the problem vanished for about a month. Again, a couple of days back, I started encountering the same problem, so I took it to him to remove the carbon. But even after removing the carbon deposit, I am still having this problem. It occurs suddenly, sometimes I don't encounter it for days together.

What should I do? Is it expected to clean the spark plug every month? Sorry if I have used the wrong terms, I am a noob when it comes to the technicals of a machine.
I too faced a similar problem. Change the battery if needed. After changing the battery to amaron the problem was fixed for me.

                          • Bike not starting

Lately while a thumb start, extra weird Knocking sound (loud one, two to three times) is heard before the engine starts. Don't know exactly from where, all i know is that it's coming from below the fuel tank. This was an occasional thing. I don't know if this is natural.

Today while starting, a loud 'Dhap' sound (for the first time) was heard. This one came from below the fuel tank and tank even shook a little wait, why am i grinning
After that, the engine is not starting at all. I've tried kick starting too. Bike is at my uncles house, around 6kms away.

                            Guys, kindly share your thoughts.

@Drifty/Garry/Others: does the above suggest one-way clutch going kaput?

I have experienced it only once in these 11k kms. From what I have heard the problem was rectified from the 2010 batches.I fear these are the usual signs of the one way clutch going damaged!Get it rectified from the SVC asap.Still not sure its the one way clutch,a rough guess. It can be related to some damage of other internal component too!
