Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
The jerking is probably because you're not releasing the clutch lever smoothly.Originally posted by andy0104 View PostUp-shifting has become a lot smoother but getting a little jerk while down-shifting. Guess I need to practice more.
To perfect clutch control, practice moving the bike from a standstill, without using the throttle, only on clutch. If the bike is properly tuned wrt. idle speed, you are riding solo, and on level ground, the bike should be able to move without any throttle input. Make sure the headlight is off. This method will also greatly improve your slow speed balance. Note, once the bike is moving at a decent pace, make sure the clutch is released completely. You might be doing 10km/h at this point. Dragging/slipping clutch for extended periods at any time will lead to reduced clutch plate life.

Yes it's still without number plate. It is taking around 40 days to get the number. According to the dealer people who purchased bike 2 months ago are still waiting for their number. All this delay is because of the municipality election held here few months back.

Will try this out. And yes, I feel it is really easy to handle the bike over 10km/h but at slow speeds it is a little difficult. But I guess more I practice, the better I will get.Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly. ~Author Unknown

Pics:Originally posted by julianpaul View PostThe centre stand on my Fi did scrape, especially with a pillion. Not sure if it's still a problem with newer models.
There is a straightforward, though may not be extremely easy solution.
When the centre stand is up and retracted, there is a tab on the upper (forward) side. This tab stops it against the rubber bush on the exhaust pipe. Have a welder remove this tab, get a nice straight piece of metal, say 3/4 to 1 inch wide, length may be 2 inches or as required to fully cover the rubber stopper, thickness maybe 3-5mm, and weld this to the lower (rear) side of the stand. This will now raise the stand enough when retracted, not to scrape the road. The angle at which you weld the new tab to the stand should be checked after a holding spot and before the final welds, that the stand does not touch the chain under any circumstances.

Thanks for the pics!
Refering to the pics, I can now tell you that the part which you have modified and welded is the part which is scraping the road on my bike. Was it the case for you?

This is the part of the center stand that actually scrapes the road. All because of about 1" less clearanceOriginally posted by Abishek94 View PostThanks for the pics!

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
I own an Apache 180 rtr 2011 model, since the past 1 month or so i was getting problem while starting the bike, the engine needs more revving when i start in the morning.
Once the engine is hot the bike is amazing, but while starting if I go without warming the engine the bike knocks a lot, i had the carburetor cleaned and also replaced the diaphragm rubber, the problem has reduced but not gone. while my mechanic did adjust the air fuel ratio to get very high acceleration but the bike cant take much of load and at times starts to knock.
need help with this guys. Whats wrong.

Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
By the way, switched back to stock sprocket after riding for about 2000km with the rtr 160 rear sprocket.
Reason being, the smaller sprocket of the 160 does well on straight roads where maintaining 100-110 is effortless but during cornering and in the twisties, there is just not enough torque. As a result it is quiete boring to ride in the twisties with the bike taking too long to gain speed which takes out the fun factor while riding.
Now back to stock sprocket and loving it all over again

You wont find much of a difference in the first 1000km. The oil will be taking care of the engine. If anything you can expect a little harshness in feel. But once the oil is done... It is another story altogether.Originally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostFinally got my hands on the shell ax7. Got it from snapdeal. Paid Rs.370 for it.
Will be using it from tomorrow. Expecting an increase in the levels of refinement.

Sorry could not get you brother. U meant harshness ??. I had been using the tvs oil for the past 5k kms. I will be changing to ax7 tomorrow. As far as what i have read i expect a slight improvement in the NVH.Originally posted by madhav766 View PostYou wont find much of a difference in the first 1000km. Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Forgive me. I should have been clearer. I'll share my experience when I first shifted over to AX7 after using tru4. I rode on tru4 oil for close to 7k KM. When I shifted over to AX7 I was really let down. It was not that I was expecting the engine to feel better immediately. But even after close to 800km the engine felt the same, if not harsher and more vibey. Since I spent a lot, I decided to let the oil stick till it was time to change it. But towards the end when I was about to change the oil I began noticing how mellow the engine had become. So I went for another round of AX7. This time round the change was evident almost immediately. I recently found out that this happened because the oil has some detergents that clean your engine from the inside, something tru4 doesn't do very well.Originally posted by Mr_Many_Places View PostSorry could not get you brother. Re: TVS Apache RTR 180
Hey Abhishek,
Would you be interetsed in selling the RTR 160 rear sprocket that you have removed? I need it. I used to run my RTR160 on 14-44 ratio. So i know how it feels. So no worries there.
I have a spare RTR 180 rear sprocket (had to buy full set of RTR 180 when I tried sprocketting on my 160)in case someone is interested
