I don't think 70kmpl is possible at 11K...Originally posted by <F.I> View Posta sports bike giving 40kmpl . i guess very soon we r goin to see r1's giving 70kmpl at 11k

Moreover, we are talking about the Ninja series here not the 'R' series... plus don't forget the higher level of CC...

40kmpl?! seriously?Originally posted by The Celebrity View PostI had got approx 40kmpl during the Kerala G2G when the speed was kept at 80kmph (keeping the rpm between 6K-7K)...
however, during city rides, i get only an average of 20-25 kmpl...
No, I haven't felt the Ninja's tyre grips are poor. I have been able to do cornering well and safe till date.
you said you kept the bike at around 80kmph but did you use the brakes often or did you have to change gears much? (avoiding poth holes/animals/bad roads)
...I'm guessing it was a brilliant road with not much traffic and you cruised for the major part?!
i usually get 25kmpl in city conditions
and 30kmpl on highways when kept under 8k rpm! but today we rode at pretty much 12k rpm constantly for 2 hours (two 1hr splits) and our mileage shocked us
20kmpl or slightly under!
About the tyres, i dont think the irc's are confident boosting when it comes to hard cornering, i'm not a pro but somehow i felt they weren't up to the mark! just not enough grip for my liking IMHO hence waiting till my bike gets to second service and plan on changing the rear tyre to a pirelli or bridgestoneLast edited by therealabhinav; 01-27-2011, 12:28 AM.

oops! didn't i mention this one already somewhere?! It was mostly highways which I was covering till Munnar (the Kerala G2G location), plus like you said, I was cruising at 80kmph when compared with the other bikes in the group...Originally posted by therealabhinav View Post40kmpl?! seriously?

braking and gear shifts were minimal... yup, very less traffic since the ride started off early morning...

Ninja Tyres
The grip of IRCs is good. I have done two track days on the IRCs and had load of fun while cornering. So for normal city rides the grips are quite good.
But my last track day was on a rear Pirelli Speed Demon and compared to the IRCs they were amazing. I could not believe myself, the speeds I could carry on the turns.
In Nutshell. IRCs are good, Pirelli Speed Demons are Awesome

personally... IRCs are decent... definitely not "good".Originally posted by <F.I> View Postno i dont think that cud be a reason . irc tyres hav a really good grip
u should try Pirelli SDs and then try comparing them to the stock IRCs on the Ninja.

good on you man! so i guess you've pretty much ridden the bike at its most efficient level and credit goes to you aswell to ride her like that!Originally posted by The Celebrity View Postoops! didn't i mention this one already somewhere?! its good to know that during long rides, ninja gives 35kmpl+ when ridden efficiently! saves us from refueling at crappy petrol stations!
yeah thats what i heard aswell! can you give a quantitative difference between the corner speeds of irc and pirelli! it will help aot of ninja riders who are interested (will certainly help me..lol)Originally posted by killer_instinct View PostThe grip of IRCs is good. That would be difficult, coz my first two track days were on the IRCs and I was new to the track so there was a lot to learn.Originally posted by therealabhinav View Post

In my view, earlier the R15s could keep up with me on turns
Now I could keep up with R6s on turns.

Fine that nothing happened severe.Originally posted by The Celebrity View PostHappy Republic day fellow Ninjians.... but it was a sad day for me today...

today I have done my first trip(217km) on my ninja. had great time. Most of the time I tried to keep under 4k(as my odo is 465) but cant control myself and touched 9k on DND toll road in delhi. I just cant explain. awesome
.
hoping that my engine is not break out.
I'm dying very hard in my runin period... Keeping under 4k is very difficult task for a motorcycle like this
.. Tis 640 kms for me on the ODO now
I think you've bought your machine before me, but clocked only less kms compared to mine.
They're very good in tarmac. Yet to try out the traction in wet!Originally posted by nitro66 View Postirc have really good grip as they are track ready. but you know Indian roads.
little sand or stones can easily dis-balance the bike.

yeh your mileage is spot on. this is what i have got. just give or a take a km or 2 like a clean air filter, properly lubed and adjusted chain like.Originally posted by therealabhinav View Posthey guys!
Both harsha and myself (xbhp members and ninja riders) have gotten a mileage of 20kmpl after our 300km ride today! we did constantly stay above 155kmph and certainly over 140kmph for 250km of the journey. our highway average speed was just over 130kmph so wondering if any of you have got the same returns at those speeds over a long distance...
p.s. i did get a mileage return of over 30kmpl during an xbhp group ride wherein we kept our speeds under 100kmph (mostly 80kmph) for 90% of the distance (300km ride again) hence am wondering if you guys got the same numbers...Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

if there is one major draw back on the ninja it is the IRC tyres. also it is a cheap tyre compared to other manufactures. many ninja owners has suffered cause of this.( please refer to other sites too) notoriously poor grip in wet conditions on poor roads one has to be extra cautious.Originally posted by nitro66 View Postirc have really good grip as they are track ready. but you know Indian roads.

correct me if I am wrong.
these are track tyres and a track condition has nothing to do with Indian road conditions, I repeat Indian Road conditions. i would have replaced IRC with BS-Battlax / P Sport , but dont have the money to indulge right now.
the tyres grip well , but on clean dry roads. other wise its a 50/50 for panic braking.Mountain biking on impulse with my wife and our bike goes down in water

Well my work is not allowing me to do some long trip

+1.
I am saying the same thing. And I am not comparing Indian roads and tracks .I am just saying that we have to ride most of the time (In my case 100% time) on Indian roads.
